Borealis Borstar Aquility HE3408

The one-pack solution for efficient thin wall drip irrigation pipe production
A growing market
Borstar Aquility HE3408: Tailored solution for thin wall drip irrigation pipes

Conventional crop irrigation methods use high volumes of water, a large part of which is often wasted through over-watering, excessive infiltration, run-off or evaporation. Of the more recent systems developed to improve crop watering, drip irrigation offers the greatest potential in terms of water efficiency and crop yield. Drip irrigation eliminates water wastage by providing a continuous and controllable flow of water droplets, through a series of pipes and drippers, directly to or adjacent to the root zone of each plant or drip row. This precision method significantly reduces the burden on water resources and can also aid substantial improvement in crop yield.

New drip irrigation specific material

The introduction of Borstar Aquility HE3408 brings a new level of performance to pipe producers and the agricultural market sector. It belongs to Borealis new family of tailored products for drip irrigation and is a ready compounded black material for thin wall drip irrigation pipes and tapes offering the highest production cost efficiency. Delivered as a one-pack solution it eliminates the expensive production step of blending multiple grades and/or colour master batches. The reduction of this step avoids the risk of quality variations in the extruded pipe and allows the optimisation of inventory and supply chain management. Based on the unique Borstar process and catalyst technology, Borstar Aquility HE3408, with its bimodal structure, offers the potential for the high line speeds and thin walls needed by irrigation pipe producers to improve their production efficiency. Productivity is further enhanced by the materials easy weldability, which complements commonly used in-line dripper insertion technologies.

ProductNews
Key features and characteristics
Borstar Aquility HE3408 Pigmented one-pack solution Homogeneous material which does not require any blending steps: Avoiding the risk of inconsistent quality and reducing inventory and logistics costs Tailored material: Intended for drip irrigation application Excellent processability: Bimodality provides the necessary melt strength to enable high line speed/thin wall production Very good weldability: Allows drippers to be welded at high line speeds for optimal production efficiency Excellent stabilisation: UV-resistance provided by evenly dispersed carbon black in the polymer Very good ESCR: Improved resistance to chemicals, such as fertilizers, at high temperatures
Drip irrigation: Improves water efficiency and crop yield

Excellent surface finish: Reduces the potential for scale build-up on the inner pipe wall and gives high external aesthetics

Superior quality with high performance and value

The outstanding mechanical properties combined with the excellent processability of Borstar Aquility HE3408 ensures the production of tougher, lighter and thinner-walled pipes as demanded by the industry. On the one hand, pipe producers benefit from a considerable competitive advantage in the marketplace through increased productivity and the possibility for product differentiation. On the other hand, farmers and horticulturalist end users benefit from higher quality pipes providing superior UV-resistance, due to evenly dispersed carbon black in the polymer, ensuring reliability throughout their working life. Furthermore, the excellent surface finish delivered by Borstar Aquility HE3408 does not only present good exterior aesthetics but also reduces the potential for interior scaling, resulting in low maintenance requirements.
