Will Our Church Exist 10 Years From Now? We

are all invited to attend a workshop on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk to hear George Bullards answer to this question and to learn ways to insure our churchs vitality in mission for the future. You might be thinking Of course DPC will be around in 10 years. Within our Presbytery, seven churches have closed and others are considering closing. Many have only part-time pastoral leadership. Some are considering merging with other congregations. We want to be a vital, active and growing congregation today and in the future. Please consider attending this one-day event which costs only $10 and includes lunch. Please sign up with Bob Burroughs to attend. If the cost is prohibitive we will gladly cover the fee if you are interested in attending.

The Gardens at Warwick Forest

On a regular schedule, Denbigh Presbyterian Church conducts a service at The Gardens at Warwick Forest. This is a multi-center facility for those who are in nursing care, rehabilitation, and hospice. The worship service lasts for approximately thirty minutes and includes all the elements enjoyed during our Sunday Services. We need volunteers to sing, read, or just visit with those who attend. It is a blessing to all and a great opportunity to reach out to those who cannot normally attend Christian services. For more information, please contact Rusty Norton (cell 757-814-1091 or email rustynorton@denbighpres.org). Blessings to all, Rusty.

We will discuss the sermon together and learn more about the scripture lessons for the day. Bring your questions and your comments! We will meet in the conference room immediately following the worship service and will conclude by 12:45 p.m.

The Adult I Sunday School class began a new quarter on Sunday, March 3, with a study in both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. Topics to be studied include the Kingdom of God, Resurrection Hope (during the Easter season), and a Call to Holy Living. The study will consist of readings in Daniel, Luke, 1&2 Thessalonians, and 1&2 Peter. If, like many of us, your knowledge of almost anything is greater than your knowledge of the Bible, this class is a great way to start overcoming that. And it may change your life. Please consider joining in on Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the Conference Room.

The Adult II Sunday School class is an informal, round table discussion covering frequently changing topics. Subjects include contemporary news events as they may relate to biblical passages and conversation on various Bible themes. Future possible discussions may be based on selected literary readings or materials presented on various electronic media. Class members are encouraged to suggest topics for future presentation. The constantly changing round table discourse is designed to enlighten our appreciation of Gods work both in the past and in todays ever changing society.

Denbigh Presbyterian Pre-Kindergarten

March is coming to a close, and we are looking forward to a busy month of April! We will end this month with an Easter Egg Hunt on our playground. I am sure the kids will have a lot of fun filling their egg cartons and finding their treats. We will be closed for Spring Break from Good Friday, 3/29, through the first week of April. When we return from Spring Break, we will have many activities to look forward to! There will be School Pictures, a Crazy Hat Parade, a Kindergarten Field Trip, and a magnet program presented by the Childrens Museum of Virginia. If youd like to come watch us parade around in our funny hats, complete an obstacle course, and sing Its So Great to be Crazy please join us on Thursday, April 18 or Friday, April 19 in our parking lot at 12 noon. Its sure to be a lot of fun! The rater from the Virginia Star Quality Initiative has come and gone, and now we are just waiting to hear what star rating we have earned. I expect to get our report some time during April, and Ill be sure to share the good news! I am so proud of all of DPPKs staff. They worked really hard to be prepared, and I could not have asked for any more. Do you know that most of the staff completed between 40 and 50 hours of additional training, classes, and workshops over the previous 12 months! That is a lot of extra hours! They did it because they are dedicated to making DPPK one of the best preschool programs in the state. Be sure to tell them thank you if you get the chance. Maggie Vincelette DPPK Director

Are you a graduate or do you have a graduate in your family?

We have set Sunday, June 2 to celebrate and pray for the graduates in worship. We need your help to make this a meaningful celebration. Please call the church office at 8772048 to confirm your graduate can attend the events on June 2. We know that many are working and traveling, but we are hopeful that the day might be cleared on schedules. Please submit to the church office several pictures of your graduate (ideas are the senior picture, one from a church event, a baby picture etc.). We need these photos by May 19. Also, please complete an information form with details about your graduate and his/her future plans for inclusion in the Graduate Brochure.

Many of us are already longing for summer and have begun making plans for the special ways we will spend our time this summer. Our Childrens and Youth Ministry Committee invites you to consider sending your child or teen to our Presbyterian summer camp. Makemie Woods, located near Williamsburg, offers a variety of camps for children who are entering first grade through teens who are in high school. We believe church camp experiences help nurture and strengthen the faith of our children and youth. We encourage you to go to www.makwoods.org to see the many and varied camp offerings and the camp schedule. There are Makemie Woods camp brochures outside of Liz Marshalls office. You may also see Liz or Kathy Baldwin for assistance. In past years DPC has been able to provide many scholarships for camp, but due to church budget constraints our scholarship funds are more limited than usual. As the economy continues to impact us individually it also has impacted the church. While we still will be able to provide some assistance, we ask all families to carefully and prayerfully consider what you can afford to contribute to the cost of your child/children attending camp. Makemie Woods offers a number of discounts. There is an Advanced Pay Discount when payment is made in full for the camp upon registration ($10 discount.) There is an Early Registration Discount if you register before April 1 ($10 discount) First Time Campers receive a $20 discount for one session only, Active Duty Military Dependents receive a $10 discount if either parent is currently serving in the armed forces or reserves. There is also a Family Discount when families are sending more than one child (subtract $30 from the camp fee of each additional child). We ask that everyone applying for scholarship assistance also register for camp in a timely manner to receive the maximum amount of discounts for which they are eligible. This will help you and the church as we try to stretch our dollars to assist as many campers as possible. Please note that camp applications should be in to Makemie Woods by April 1 to receive maximum discounts. You may register on-line at www.makwoods.org . Please see Kathy Baldwin for addition information and forms.
