A grant application must include: the application form, a project plan, a budget and, if applicable, a communication plan and the necessary compulsory enclosures. If you are not applying by email, the application and enclosures must be submitted on separate pages and only printed on one side. Those applying by email must fully complete and sign the last page of the form and send it to the Netherlands Architecture Fund by post with the necessary enclosures and include a reference to the email application. Grant applications are submitted to the Funds Advisory Committee as blackand-white copies and in standard A4 format. Explanatory notes to the application form


a funding deficit. Moreover there must be evidence of co-funding. Contributions cannot be awarded to projects/programmes where there is no evidence of a reasonable personal contribution, personal income, sponsorship and/or other funding. Only legal bodies or organizations that are registered with the Chamber of Commerce are eligible for funding. Only those activities that have a direct bearing on the implementation of a project/programme are eligible for funding. The Netherlands Architecture Fund may decided to refuse an application without further consideration or advice if the same applicant has failed to submit the required reports, or submitted insufficient reports, concerning a previous project for which the SfA provided a financial contribution. Grant applications will not be considered in cases where the project/programme is not scheduled to start within 12 months. The Netherlands Architecture Fund may decide not to consider a grant application if the accompanying details and documentation are insufficient for the application to be assessed on its content. In such cases the applicant is requested to provide the relevant details and documentation within a period of two weeks. Applications for grants for a publication must include a completed costing form. There should be a guaranteed national (or international) distribution network for the circulation of the publication. The maximum grant for an audiovisual production is 25,000 euros. The guideline for internal hourly rates is 65 euros.

Formal criteria
Contributions are only awarded to:

 project: a one-off autonomous actiA vity that takes place within a maximum period of 24 months.  A programme: a series of activities that are interconnected in form and content and that take place within a maximum period of 24 months. Applications must be submitted at least ten weeks before the start date of a project/programme, in compliance with the submission dates determined by the Board. Contributions are not awarded to:

 fficial Dutch contributions to exhibiO tions and biennials;  Study trips;  Running and maintenance deficits;  Viability research;  Acquisition of freehold property;  Dutch Higher Education (HBO) and university related research;  Construction and renovation costs;  Drawing-up of plans for interior design, restoration and refurbishment;  Projects or a series of projects with a duration of longer than 24 months;  Projects/programmes that form part of the applicants regular activities;  Projects that involve national heritage and the preservation of historic and listed buildings;  Repeat projects or a publication reprint;  Projects that take place within the framework of study or education. Only fully completed application forms accompanied by the required details, information and documentation will be considered. Handwritten applications cannot be considered. Assessment
Aims Programme Urban Planning and Design The Advisory Committee looks for evidence of the following aims when assessing the content of an application.

Start-up Grant For a project or programme you can apply for a start-up grant to set-up a project plan or programme. The aim is to simplify the starting process leading to a project or programme. An applicant can look for the relevant expertise and/ or partners, and conceptually develop the aim/brief. A maximum start-up phase should last 6 months. The end result of the start-up phase should be a fully developed project or programme proposal for which funding can be applied.

 he development or exchange of T knowledge with respect to design tasks, strategies, methods and planning forms employed at all scales of Dutch urban planning, in which special attention is devoted to multidisciplinary collaborative ventures, including collaboration in the field of: landscape design, infrastructure, architecture, civil engineering. In addition the project/programme should serve to enhance existing theory and/or practice, and/or by its exceptional model-acting character be expected to stimulate new developments in the field of spatial design. And/or it should foster discussion about current insights and working methods;  exchange of knowledge between practice, research and education through, among others, co-operation between Dutch Colleges of Design and urban designers working for: Dutch (local) government, (semi-) public commissioning authorities or design offices. In addition the project/programme should serve to enhance existing theory and/or practice, and/or through innovative partnership foster model-acting practice cases, and/or stimulate the degree to which underexposed or urgent spatial issues are addressed. The results should be significant to Dutch design practice;  increasing public and professional interest for and insight into the significance of urban planning and design. This involves an interaction with current spatial issues. Infrastructure for the project should be evidenced in the anticipated public interest and the collaboration with and/or contribution from third parties;  International reflection; learning from groundbreaking elements in the field

 he maximum sum for a start-up T grant, which leads to a project, is 7,500 euros.  The maximum sum for a start-up grant, which leads to a programme, is 15,000 euros. With regard to the procedure governing an assessment and the award of a grant, the Netherlands Architecture Fund may decide to give priority to a specific application in connection with:

Applicants will be advised of this, and of the date when the applicant can expect a decision on the application, in the acknowledgment of receipt of the application. Applications are submitted to the Advisory Committee for recommendation. In general the Advisory Committee examines the application for consistency. The Advisory Committee can give a negative recommendation in cases where the aim, format and outreach do not conform with each other. In such cases it is judged that the applicants aim cannot be achieved.

Decision
The applicant will be notified of the decision approximately nine weeks after the closing date for applications. The decision includes an account of the recommendation, the conditions under which the grant sum is awarded, the requirements the applicant must fulfil, the end date of the project, the maximum grant, and the applicants responsibilities subsequent to the projects completion. The decision can become null-and-void if the project has not been started within twelve months of the grant award. The decision can be revoked in cases where the project is either not implemented, or is differently or partially implemented. It is imperative therefore that any changes are made known to the Netherlands Architecture Fund as soon as possible.
