Course Prerequisite: MTH 230 with a grade of C or better. Text: A First Course in Differential Equations with Modeling Applications, Zill, Cengage; 10th Edition.

Course Objectives:
1. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will know or understand: solution of separable first order differential equations solution of exact first order differential equations. solution of linear first order differential equations. solution of special nonlinear first order differential equations by changes of variable (including Bernoulli's equation and equations with homogeneous coefficients). 5. determination of linear independence of functions using the Wronskian. 6. general solutions of linear differential equations. 7. auxiliary equations for linear differential equations with constant coefficients, 8. the method of undetermined coefficients 9. reduction of order and variation of parameters, 10. the exponential shift. 11. the Laplace transform and differential equations. 12. first-order linear systems of differential equations. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Students will solve separable first order differential equations. 2. Students will solve exact first order differential equations 3. Students will solve linear first order differential equations. 4. Students will solve some special nonlinear first order differential equations by changes of variable (including Bernoulli's equation and equations with homogeneous coefficients). 5. Students will determine the linear independence of functions using the Wronskian. 6. Students will recognize the form of the general solution of a linear differential equation. 7. Students will solve higher order homogeneous linear differential equations with constant coefficients using auxiliary equations. 8. Students will solve higher order linear differential equations using the method of undetermined coefficients. 9. Students will solve higher order linear differential equations using reduction of order and variation of parameters. 10. Students will solve higher order linear differential equations using the exponential shift. 11. Students will solve higher order linear differential equations using the Laplace transform. 12. Students will solve first-order linear systems of differential equations using eigenvectors and eigenvalues. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Method of Evaluation: 60 % Quizzes: There will be 6 quizzes. The lowest 2 quiz grades will be dropped. The best 4 quiz grades will be averaged. 20 % Mid-Term Test: The content of this test will contain the material covered in the first 8 weeks of class. 20 % Final Exam: This content of this test will be comprehensive, covering all material learned in the course. Grading Policy: A superior B above average C average D passing, below average F failure 90 100 % 80 89 % 70 79 % 60 69 % 0 59 %

Make-Up Tests: No make-up tests will be given after the test date. If the mid-term test is missed, then the final exam grade will be substituted for the mid-term test grade. Make-Up Quizzes: No make-up quizzes will be given. The first two missed quizzes will be dropped. After missing two quizzes, any quiz missed will be counted as a zero grade. Homework:
Homework is not collected or graded, but practicing homework problems is the best way to prepare to pass the quizzes and tests.

Course Withdrawals:
A W will be issued if a student initiates and completes the course withdrawal process prior to the end of the 12th week of classes.
