As the long Easter break comes to an end with HOLI celebrations and Pakistan Day events around Australia, we are now eagerly waiting to hear the details of voting procedure for overseas Pakistanis. As you read this newsletter the software prepared for overseas Pakistanis is being reviewed by Election Commission of Pakistan. Australia is among 15 countries that this software will be available for the voting. Recently we received feedback regarding newsletter to keep it more WA focused. In the light of feedback received we have decided to keep pages 2 -4 for WA based news followed by other news items. Thanks also to one of the patrons, who assisted in offering employment to one Hazara student in Perth. Another important news is the rescheduling of SBS Urdu Service Program which will be broadcasted twice per week with effect from Ist May 2013. The days are Wednesdays and Sundays and the new timings are 6 7 pm. You can also down load the SBS language application on your mobile device through itunes to hear the program at your conveniences. Finally please join us to meet Anita and watch her documentary on 14th April (There was an error in the date in last newsletter). This free public event will be held on Sunday 21 April, 2013 at QV Square behind Queen Victoria Centre, 210 Lonsdale St, Melbourne.
The festival will provide an opportunity for the broader community to share in aspects of cultural practice with one another. It is a unique introduction to Multiculturalism for women, kids and families, incorporating the traditions of the various multicultural groups that make up Melbournes landscape and will attract an attendance of approximately 1000+ visitors. The festival will celebrate migrant and refugee wom ens diversity and highlight their positive contribution to the Victorian community. It will bring together women from immigrant, refugee, Anglo-Celtic and Indigenous backgrounds joined in a common goal of celebrating achievements and diversity. Women will have the opportunity to share their success stories, showcase their individual cultural identities and celebrate their contribution to Australian society. We hope to see mainstream visitors at the event so it becomes a genuine community engagement whereby our community groups who will be directly and actively participating as artists and volunteers will be educating the mainstream people about their culture. There will also be women in their national costumes moving around with their cultural wares, lots of roving entertainment and arts and dance workshops for kids, women and the rest of their families. The main stage will have ongoing performances too apart from the usual opening and closing programs.

FESTIVAL FORMAT Main stage

Cultural Market Place

Each marquee will represent a different geographic region. These will include Africa, Middle East, Latin America, Africa, Pacific Islands, Sth East Asia etc. Within each regional centre will be a number of different countries or cultural groups. For example: Middle East Hub will contain Iranian, Syrian, Turkish and Egyptian. Visitors will be able to experience an array of Middle Eastern cultures in different forms. We hope that each of the marquees will be set up in a way that when people enter they will be transported into a world, with unique and quality cultural artefacts and elaborate decorations, including carpets, wall hangings, soft furnishings, flags etc.

A display of cultural arts and crafts and demonstrations will be in each tent. This is intended to be an interactive not commercial market place. You may however charge fee for your products and services to the public, however in this case a small fee of $50 will be payable to the VIRWC.
