Cut up the horses names on sheet 1 into 40 individual pieces of paper. There are 4 reserve horses indicated R1 .. R4. These will only run if any of the other 40 horses are declared as late non runners. If any are withdrawn substitute the horse with the relevant reserve. Fold all the horses names and put them into a hat (or other suitable container). Charge as much as you like per entry (or as much as people are willing to pay). We suggest somewhere in the region of 1 5 per entry. Get people in your office or club to pay their entry fee and pick a name from the hat at random. Write down who draws which horse on sheet 2 (it saves a lot of argument later). Make sure you sell all of the horses. If you have some left, after everyone has brought one, see if anyone wants a second or third horse (gentle persuasion maybe required). White lies such as implying the favourite is still available are acceptable. Remind anyone who draws one of the rank outsiders (as long as they're over 18) that they can have a Free Bet on one of the more fancied runners, by following the link to www.racing-index.com/gn and opening an account with one of the listed bookmakers. Obviously you're free to split the winnings how you wish, but make sure all the money is paid out in prizes. We suggest you split the winnings as follows: 1st = 60%, 2nd = 25%, 3rd = 10% and 4th = 5% As an example if you were charging 2 per entry, you'd split the winnings as: 1st = 48, 2nd = 20, 3rd = 8 and 4th = 4 Every effort has been made to ensure the silk colours are correct, however due to late changes of ownership these may differ from those worn by the jockeys on the day.
