not just for ha L

ow market penetration of dishwashers in the UK means that the kitchen sink is still mainly used for washing up - so roomy bowls and a decent size drainer are important to the lower to mid section of the market. Further up at the posh end where the consumer is more likely to own a dishwasher and have solid surface worktops, undermounts are definitely gaining ground. Stainless steel remains the most popular material and one and a half bowl the most popular format. Ceramic, which used to be mainly confined to the traditional end, is enjoying a renaissance with a good selection of contemporary sinks now available in fine fireclay - a more modern material than the heavy, chunky stuff used to make Belfast style sinks. Ceramic is a popular choice with those who want colour but possibly have unhappy memories of composite, dating from the days when the material stained easily and was difficult to clean. The problem with the old composites was that the surface was slightly rough so limescale would cling to it - and liquids such as tea, coffee and red wine hang on to the limescale causing a hard to shift stain. Contemporary monobloc chrome mixers are the favourite choice in taps. Bridge mixers are often chosen for use with traditional style fireclay sinks - but pillar taps are very rarely seen. Consumers like the idea of a pull out spray rinse - inspired most probably by TV chefs - but it is really important to point out that not all the taps on the market will work efficiently with the typical UK gravity system. There are some models available that will work properly at around 1 bar but it is still worth checking out the consumers system before installation. Instant hot water taps are becoming more familiar at the upper end of the market with big brand names such as Franke now in the product mix. The instant hot water tap is one of those things where you really do need to have a working model in the showroom for the customer to get the point. You can read more about the Quooker range of instant boiling water taps on page 8. Filtered water taps have been around a while now and the market appears to be static. We think the off putting element is the cartridge and the need to replace it. It is true that this is not often but some consumers do see it as a hassle they can live without and are happy to either buy bottled water, use a Brita filter jug or opt for an American style fridge freezer that dispenses chilled filtered water and ice.

The integrated Sanitized hygiene solution in Franke Fragranite provides sinks made in this material with lasting protection from dirt and bacteria. Tests have shown that Fragranite treated with Sanitized reduces bacteria and microbe growth by 99 percent. It is mixed into the bulk material so will last for the life of the sink. 0161 436 6280 www.franke.co.uk

It has a generous main bowl depth of 195mm so will take large pans and is in easy to clean brushed steel. The second bowl is perfect for defrosting or for draining vegetables etc. Basket strainer wastes help to prevent sink blockages and both bowls will take a waste disposer. It can be installed with the half bowl to the right or the left. 0118 933 6900 www.baumatic.co.uk The internet is playing an increasingly important role in the sale of kitchen sinks and taps especially in the refurbishment market where customers are now very inclined to shop around and source non cabinet products themselves. A recent survey by sinkstaps.com, the UKs largest online retailer of kitchen sinks, taps and accessories, has discovered large price differences between themselves and some major brand DIY stores. The survey shows that sinks-taps.com is currently beating the major brand DIY stores on price across many kitchen products. For example: B&Q currently have the Franke ARX160 1.5 bowl stainless steel sink listed at 319, sinkstaps.com are selling the same

leek, stylish and allowing consumers to dispense with the electric kettle, the Quooker boiling water tap has become a kitchen must have. It can be used for everything from making hot drinks to supplying water for cooking vegetables, pasta, boiling eggs and many other tasks. The Quooker was invented by Henri Peteri back in 1970. He was working on the development of instant soup but realised it would never be instant without ready to use boiling water on tap. After many prototypes, his son Niels came on the scene and the idea turned into a product. In 1992, the Quooker Basic tap was launched in the Netherlands and by 2000, Quooker had started to make a profit. The tap was launched on to the UK market in 2005 and has rapidly become a kitchen essential. Although there are many hot taps on the market, Quooker is the only true dedicated 100C boiling water tap - and therefore the one that replaces a kettle.

The Quooker Combi

New from Quooker is the Combi. The dedicated Quooker tap dispenses the exact amount of water needed at 100C while water at 50-65C is available via the existing kitchen mixer. It is easy to install and operates from a cold water feed.

Quooker taps come in four different styles and four different finishes. All of them are easy to install and have full height adjustment with 360 rotation. The taps deliver 100C water in a fine aerated spray rather than a direct jet and can only be operated by adult hands so children cannot accidentally switch the hot water on. A Quooker can be retrofitted to an existing kitchen and the tap hole can be cut in any solid surface other than glass. In an area free from limescale the HITAC filter only needs to be changed at three to five year intervals. In areas where limescale is a problem the tank will need to be cleaned out every 12-18 months. Both jobs are easy - and Quookers trained engineer force is available to carry out maintenance tasks for a small charge.

The Nevada sink has a smooth, integrated drainer and a geometric bowl.
The stainless steel Nevada sink, launched earlier this year, uses a unique manufacturing technique in the way the steel is cut by laser and manipulated during the manufacturing process. This technique allows Nevadas bowls to be made to any size and any configuration and they can be placed anywhere within the sink frame. In Germany, for example, the half bowl is often found at the end of the sink, whereas in the UK it is traditionally in the middle; with Nevada customers can specify how many bowls they would like and exactly where they would like them to be placed.

The RL404CB ceramic sink in dramatic glossy black.

The latest addition to the companys Regi-Ceramic range of sinks, the stunning new black RL404CB, is also the result of many months research and development into achieving the perfect glazed finish. The high gloss appearance was difficult to master as the surface of the black fireclay from which the sink is manufactured has a tendency to show flaws and inconsistencies. Reginox addressed this by introducing additional steps into the finishing process, some of which are undertaken by hand by skilled craftsman. The end result is a beautiful sink that blends contemporary angular design with a time-honoured material and would suit both modern and traditional properties alike.

2012 has been a year of steady growth for sinks and taps manufacturer, Reginox UK.

reginox goes from strength to strength

espite difficult economic conditions trading results from Reginox UK for the first half of this year were up by more than 30 percent on the same period for 2011. The growth has arisen as a result of a concerted drive to attract new customers, combined with a strong focus on developing existing business. Certainly 2012 has seen Reginox working harder than ever to support its retail customers. A consumer PR campaign, targeting the glossy KBB and home interest magazines, aims to raise awareness of the brand amongst consumers and drive footfall into retailers. The company has also introduced a Showroom Award Scheme, which rewards selected retailers for their loyalty and commitment to Reginox by providing them with direct customer referrals, rebate schemes and additional point of sale materials. This year has also seen a steady stream of new product introductions. All of Reginox UKs stainless steel sinks are produced at the companys factory in Holland, which uses the finest materials and employs world class leading production techniques to create outstanding designs and finishes of the highest quality. The Brooklyn tap has a traditional look.

With black proving to be a popular theme within the kitchen generally, Reginox has recently introduced Brooklyn to its extensive tap collection. A traditional polished chrome mixer tap with contemporary high gloss black ceramic handles, Brooklyn has been designed to complement any black ceramic, granite or composite sink and would also work beautifully with a stainless steel sink integrated into a black worksurface.

David Caulfield presents the first place award to Catherine Curran, left, for The Wave Machine, and, below, with other winners and entrants from Doncaster College.

ood design is at the heart of products made by BA Components and now the company has established an annual bursary and awards for art and design students at Doncaster College. The annual BA Creativity Awards evening held recently celebrated the scheme and its first successes. Students, partners, parents and lecturers gathered in the impressive reception at BA Components in Kirk Sandall to enjoy the first BA Creativity Awards evening and meet the winners. The event was hosted by BA Components Sales and Marketing Director David Caulfield who explained the background to the bursary: BA employs almost 200 people in the Doncaster area and it is important to us to show our commitment to them by getting involved at community level. This bursary to the College combines community interest with encouragement for growth and development and promotes our commitment and belief in design and marketing. The process has been interesting, challenging and rewarding for all involved. Students were asked to produce artwork using whatever technique or method they preferred, but could only use raw materials or scrap from the BA Doncaster factory. David Caulfield, assisted by Design Consultant Phil Hooper and lecturer Michael Bunn, monitored the works as they developed and spoke to the students as their ideas unfolded. A short list of ten finalists was drawn up and trophies were awarded to five. Highly Commended awards were presented to Fiona Humphrey and Rebecca Hilton for their exhibit entitled Trees and to Rocky Hudson for Domino Effect. Third place including a trophy, certificate and a cheque went to Rachel Kitchin for Landscape Panels and second place to Paula Elward for her carefully thought out and crafted work Building Blocks. First prize with the inaugural trophy and winners cheque went to Catherine Curran for her tactile piece The Wave Machine. The evening was greatly enjoyed by all so much so that next year, Ian Latham of Doncaster College announced, the awards would be extended to both Further and Higher Education students, widening the scope and potential to find even more talent and produce even more interesting work. The winning entries were on display at BA Components until early July. 01302 890555 www.byba.co.uk

TOP TIPS

Know whats on TV.

Great British Bake Off is a hit show and Neffs slideaway oven plays a starring role. The key cookery programmes in terms of consumer influence are Masterchef, Saturday Kitchen and anything with Heston, Jamie, Delia or Hugh.

Be willing and able to explain what may seem to be complicated features.

Electrolux invented the combi steam concept for professional chefs - and is now offering it for domestic use. The all new Inspiration CombiSteam has a 72-litre capacity and a variety of settings including CrispSteam, SoftSteam and PureSteam. The shelf system offers up to five levels and the oven has a probe for checking that food is cooked to perfection. The steam cleaning function softens food residues, making cleaning easier. 08445 610610 www.electrolux.co.uk

Simon Plumbridge, Senior Product Manager at Gaggenau explains: I feel that lack of knowledge on features such as steam cooking ends up with the appliance being branded as too difficult. Gaggenau makes it a pre-requisite that all trading partners must have displays connected to power so that live explanations can be given by trained designers who have their knowledge updated annually. To support this we offer in house home economist visits for consumers that purchase specialist appliances such as combi steam ovens as well as pre sale demonstrations at our Wigmore Street showroom. Both of these services are free of charge. It is in our interest to give as much information as we can, pre and post sale.

Remember, it is not that difficult.

These days just about everyone can manage a computer, the internet and a complicated smart phone. In comparison an oven is not that tricky, says John McLauchlan, Senior Product Manager at Siemens. Research that we carry out nearly always has easy to use high on the list of critical issues. A lot of investment is made to ensure operation is logical and simple. The same approach is taken to selecting the cooking function, whether it is to choose a basic setting or something more complicated. In this way the consumer gets used to using the oven. Familiarity with icon driven equipment was certainly in CDAs mind when the sensor touch SV310 oven was launched. It has a TFT screen with pictographs to access functions - and some clever touches such as a chicken that grows larger as the weight input is increased. CDA offers retailers displays where the touch screen system can be demonstrated.

supercooks
A good oven is hard to resist for customers who love cooking. Highlighting features and benefits can help the sale - so make sure you know how multifunction systems work and which settings have consumer appeal.

Making it simple.

On the face of it the ICS system from De Dietrich appears complex but it is actually very easy to use. Richard Walker explains: Using ICS all the user has to do is choose the correct dish from a range of options on the control panel, place the dish on the right shelf and press start. Intelligent sensors in the oven cavity assess the humidity within the food to determine the optimum temperature and cooking time. The oven will automatically make use of its entire multifunction capability to cook the food to perfection. Editor Jan Orchard, who owns an ICS oven, admits to trying to catch it out: So far I have failed miserably - I was very sceptical about slow cooking, for example, but I have done it with lamb, pork, chicken and beef and had wonderful results every time. I would say to customers trust the oven, it knows what it is doing.

Know which buttons to press.

Anything that makes life easier is big these days - and there cant be anything better than pyroclean because absolutely no one likes oven cleaning. Health is a big issue too - so steam has appeal, especially when it is a feature on a multifunction oven as not everyone has the space or the budget for a separate appliance.

The DOPTFT1190 touch screen oven from De Dietrich is packed with features including 16 different functions, Intelligent and Auto Cooking Modes, Low Temperature cooking and pyroclean. Functions are easy to access via the touch screen and the automatic programmes offer choices such as rare, medium or well done beef. There is even a search function where the user can input a food and the oven will present all available cooking options. 01256 308067 www.dedietrich.co.uk

The BOC 6322AX from Gorenje offers cooking with hot air, steam or a combination of the two and is part of the Pure collection of built in appliances. The oven has a supersize baking area, touch controls, an electronic timer and temperature display. 020 8247 3980 www.gorenje.co.uk

Samsungs Dual Cook steam oven features a divider so the cavity can be split and steam used in either section or both. The oven has a total capacity of 65 litres and has 65 automatic cooking menus. 01932 455000 www.samsung.com/uk

Siemens invests heavily in research to ensure that appliances are easy to use. On ovens, settings follow a simple left to right system and drop down menus are minimal. KITCHEN JOURNAL OCTOBER 2012 15

t is interesting to read that AMA Research reckons that worktops account for about 14 percent of the total kitchen spend translated to 160 million at manufacturers selling prices in 2010. This shows a huge growth in value from a decade ago - and reflects the interest in higher value natural stone and solid surfaces. Once only found in the luxury sector, both of these materials have become more everyday choices. Consumers do believe that a natural stone or solid surface top adds value to their home - and in these days of mild panic about falling house prices this is something that encourages them to trade up. It is not that long ago that natural stone was the default choice for those who wanted the mineral look - but now engineered stone is more widely available there is much more choice. The introduction of textured stone surfaces to laminate is playing a part too, with customers who want the look but have not got the budget to buy real stone. According to AMA, the solid surface/engineered stone sector takes about 15 percent of the market by value and five percent by volume. The introduction of thin stone technology, such as Getalits Getacore and Bushboard Encore, where a thin layer of quartz or an acrylic bonded material is bonded to a chipboard core has made the natural stone look far more accessible. Embedding interesting chips of colour from recycled glass and other materials has brought a new design dimension to engineered stone and solid surfaces. Prefabricated components have played an important part too, because the need for a fabricator undoubtedly deterred some retailers. Stone specialists such as F Jones and PWS have taken the complication out of the real stuff by offering a very efficient design and fabrication service that makes life trouble free for both the customer and the retailer. Karonias Mistral is genuinely solid all the way through and is easy to work with - read more on pages 14/15. Despite all this laminate is still king, dominating the lower and mid market sectors with 83 percent of total worktop sales according to AMA. It has all come a long way since your Dad (or probably Grandad) used to buy sheets and stick them on with glue. The laminate business has been extremely pro-active, introducing textures, new decors and valuable add on products such as splashbacks. If you want to read more about the worktop market, AMAs Domestic Kitchen and Bathroom Worktop Report UK, 20112015 costs 675 plus VAT, and is available from www.amaresearch.co.uk

Director Andrew Pickup comments: Working closely with our distributors we have been able to anticipate trends and develop the colours and effects to meet consumer demand. new looks for Axiom by Formica Group

Axiom True Scale captures the beauty of natural materials without the repetition of pattern found in traditional laminate. Mirroring the character of natural stones, woods and granites, each individual worktop will show unique characteristics - just as in nature.

ith a full focus on support for kitchen studios and trade distributors, Formica Group is introducing its stylish new Axiom worktop range. As the kitchen develops into a much more social space, the high tech professional look is being replaced by a cosier, vintage new country or simple modern feel that can be achieved with a choice of worktops from the Axiom range. Inspired by European residential trends, the new Axiom worktops and accessories range can help to create the kitchen buyers dream of. The refreshed Axiom range includes over 20 new designs, two exclusive new textures, Puregrain and Scovato, a new 3mm radius profile for a more natural worktop finish and new feature splashbacks. In response to the market, a lightly chiselled, yet smooth finish, new Scovato, meaning to unearth or discover, gives the worktop a sense of dimension. Exclusive to Axiom by Formica Group, Steel Materia with Scovato mimics a distressed metallic finish for that vintage look so sought after today. Scovato on Diamond Black and White shows the subtle highs and lows of this texture, creating beautiful, smooth kitchen surfaces. Black Sequoia and Slate Sequoia from the True Scale range are finished in new Scovato texture for a natural earthy feel. Classic looks can be created with traditional stone or woodgrain designs. For a more contemporary twist, worktops can be complemented with a splash of bright colour from bold accessories. A comprehensive promotional package is available to support the Axiom range. It includes a new point of sale unit (conditions apply), a new website with the facility to view a full worktop surface and the Formica Sample service, where new Axiom brochures and laminate samples can be quickly and easily requested. 0191 259 3478 www.axiomworktops.com

GOLDEN WONDER...
Cobra
Trojan PA (46707) has a warm golden brown colour with a pearl element giving added vitality to the finished result. This modern fresh oak, in the Renolit Covaren 3D global stock range, is an intricate design with subtle planking, fine woodticking and precise detailing, bringing depth and variety to the overall effect. The design is finished with a new wood touch emboss giving the product a realistic natural feel. It matches Kronospan D6672 and has completed Finish Performance Testing by FIRA satisfying the requirements for the assessment of domestic kitchen worktops, doors and other panel elements as specified in BS6222 part 3 1999.

Trojan PA

NEUTRAL NATURALS
Renolit has announced striking textured printed designs as new additions to the Covaren 3D global stock range. Mountain Larch Cappuccino P and Luan Oak Tobacco both meet the demand for designs which harmonise with up-to-date natural shades of coffee and tobacco and will add texture and style to a variety of room settings. Mountain Larch Cappuccino P is a deep embossed linear textured design. Restrained planks separate alternating sections of bi-directional graining creating movement within the design. It will suit a variety of different furniture styles and rooms including bedrooms, living areas and kitchens. Luan Oak Tobacco impresses with its natural looking 3D crosshatched design embellished with a saw cut emboss. Large planked cathedrals add structure to finely grained sections, which alternate with stripes and gentle growth rings. The horizontal Saw Cut surface structure gives the tri-dimensional character of this decor.

Colour Choices
Mountain Larch Cappuccino P, Luan Oak Tobacco, Moulins, Cobra, and Trojan PA were introduced by Renolit into the global 3D stock range with a number of other exciting new Renolit Covaren and Renolit Alkoren 3D decors for 2012. Consisting of 16 different woodgrain effects, printed effects and textures, and ten high gloss solid colours they can be divided into seven groups as listed here: Elm: Swiss Elm in three colours, one in high gloss Walnut: Pacific with a light and dark choice

Moulins

FABULOUS FANTASIES
Renolit is proud to announce two individual and striking fantasy designs as new additions to the Renolit Covaren stock range. The new Renolit Covaren Cobra is a fantasy design which picks up on the current trend towards irregular stripes and geometric patterns. The design is modern and contrasting, yet creates a very homely atmosphere depending on the colour combination used. It is most suitable for combinations with the three colours which feature within the printed design itself, namely greys, coffees and blues. For example mix with Renolit Covaren Flint Grey Nat Trend or Lana Matt Grey, for a harmonious result. Try Renolit AlkorenMTO Putty for a trendy look or either Renolit AlkorenMTO Aqua or Wave Blue for striking contrast. The Cobra print in combination with Melinga emboss creates a highly attractive impression of depth and therefore follows the trend towards simple textures. The new Moulins design is reminiscent of a concrete structure with a subtle two colour square print. Given its very subtle printed design, the finish can also be used as a pseudo solid colour. The design is very much on trend and, with its neutral grey colour, is suitable for combinations with various plain colours.

Textured solid colours: Elegant Ash, Okasha and Saw Cut textured surfaces Conifer: Mountain Larch Cappuccino P Oak: Luan Oak Tobacco, Trojan PA and Foscari Oak Pale Nat Special effects: Modern effects of Cobra and Moulins SC High gloss solid colours: Modern selection of ten fashionable colours All the new designs can be seen in the A4 Renolit Highlights collection binder or within the handy A6-sized 3-part complete range set off Renolit Covaren, Renolit Alkoren and Renolit Solid Colours. The inside story

itchen design must be flexible, simplify life for the user and pay attention to detail. And nothing adds to the detail of a kitchen like highly functional and aesthetically pleasing interior fittings. Although the oversized wags palace kitchens of yesteryear are on the wane, manufacturers and designers agree that homeowners still want quality products that enhance their kitchen, both functionally and aesthetically. For kitchen accessories, that means upscale amenities that make the kitchen more enjoyable to use. When it comes to interior fittings, it is all about adding greater accessibility. Manufacturers of fittings such as Blum and Kessebohmer are focusing on solutions that will simplify life for increasingly busy consumers. The biggest trend relates to improving functionality of interior fittings and accessories toward

improved ease of use. Many manufacturers are offering more and more accessories as standard options rather than only as an upgrade. As a result, many showrooms are now updating their displays and loading them up with accessories that the consumer can see, feel and touch rather than simply showing them from a brochure. Few customers can resist the practical lure of a Magic Corner or a fabulous pull out larder once demonstrated.

Interior fittings play an important role in making a kitchen efficient and easy to use.
In a well-designed kitchen, everything has a place. Selecting the appropriate storage solutions allows designers to ensure that this happens,

and allows consumers to customise their space to their specific needs. Manufacturers agree that both drawer and corner storage remain hot trends. Pull out fittings bring the contents of the cabinet out to the user, rather than the user having to squat down and dig into the cabinet. Full-extension drawers give a good overview of what is in the drawer so it is easy to find things. Interior fittings and accessories come in as many configurations as there are personalities of designers and consumers. But regardless of the style or design space optimisation is key. Designers want to get the most useful storage out of the space they have to work with, and do it in a way that blends seamlessly with the appearance of the kitchen. Adjustability is also important as storage items change due to a change in shopping habits (from shopping weekly to bulk shopping), people moving, family members returning to live at home, etc.

Blum, the acknowledged experts in fittings and storage systems, have conducted extensive research into the way kitchens are used and how to make the best possible use of the space inside cabinets.
unctional cabinets are the way to go, says David Sanders, Blum UK Sales & Marketing Director. We buy a refrigerator or an oven for a specific purpose, so why shouldnt every kitchen cabinet have a specific storage role? The watchwords for base units are no shelves - instead the perfect solution is full extension pullouts and drawers that give total access. By planning a kitchen interior along these lines, you will give the consumer over 55 percent of additional storage space when compared to a conventional kitchen - and automatically create an ergonomically efficient layout - what we at Blum call Dynamic Space. Using units such as Blums unique Space Corner and clever fittings like the under sink and plinth depth drawers all helps. Perfect runner systems such as Blums high load bearing Tandem (65kg) runners and automatic opening systems such as the Blum SERVO-DRIVE are all important considerations for small kitchens. 01908 285700 Banish the under the sink glory hole with Blums clever drawers. www.blum.com 26 KITCHEN JOURNAL OCTOBER 2012

THE EXPERT VIEW

Jitendra Mistry, Design Manager at TK Components, shares his views on the doors market:

Curves are a definite trend - they have been around for a few years now but are currently massively on the increase - this is evident in the fact that at TKC we are including curved options in 90 percent of the kitchen door ranges we are introducing. While advancing technology has played a part in making curves more readily available, it is the modern trend for open plan living that has really been responsible for making curves more popular. Consumers are increasingly seeking to create a relaxing and welcoming area that blends seamlessly with the adjoining living area and curves can help to achieve this. Curved units introduced at the end of a run or a square island can help to merge the boundaries between the kitchen and living space, and internal curves allow kitchen design to flow beautifully, adding elegance and an overall bespoke look. It is true to say that challenging economic conditions have brought a slow down in new product development over the past few years. We are seeing variations on existing products being introduced as opposed to complete new ranges, so handleless doors, for example, have become popular. Additional accessories have also been added to ranges to provide consumers with greater choice. This gives them the option of choosing a basic kitchen on a budget or splashing out on an all singing, all dancing design with plenty of accessories. High gloss slab doors are as popular today as they were three years ago and are now available in a wider range of colour options. Neutral colours are the most popular probably because cream has an ageless feel and white is contemporary but safe. Our best selling Reflections high gloss door is available in 11 colours - but the white and cream options represent almost 60 percent of total sales. Homeowners like neutral colours as they do not date, so they see them as a safe option whether they decide to sell in the future or opt for staying put. We are seeing a slight increase in sales of other neutrals such as olives and beiges. Door design will always outweigh choice of colour in terms of the overall look of the kitchen - even a Shaker kitchen can look highly contemporary with the right styling. The way homeowners decorate and accessorise plays a big part in achieving the bespoke, individual look.

Trade Mouldings will use the opportunity of W12 Working with Design this October to launch a new door. The digital age is here and it isnt just consumer electronics that are benefiting from new technology. Washing machines and dishwashers are more efficient and more economical, thanks to sensors that work out the best programme times, water and detergent use. Improved A+ and above ratings have made refrigeration cheaper to run and better at conserving food. Many cookers can now work out - with quite unnerving reliability - how to cook a joint to perfection. All the user has to do is push a button. The best news is that most of it is simple to operate and easy to understand - so customers can easily see the benefits.

Stoves and Belling have launched two new appliances that, for the first time, combine an oven and a microwave in the same unit. Designed to maximise space, the Stoves Duo Cook SEB900FPSMW is a 90cm builtin electric cooker comprising of a 20-litre, 800W side-opening microwave with grill in the top cavity and a spacious 69-litre capacity fanned oven in the lower cavity. The BI90FMW Micro Cook by family favourite Belling, also has a 90cm built in oven and 800W microwave with a fascia cooling system. The main cavity plays host to a variable rate electric grill and oven with an easy to clean enamel finish. Both appliances are A energy rated, will be manufactured in the UK and are available in Black or Stainless Steel. Jon Brennan, brand manager for Stoves and Belling built-in products, said: "Modern kitchens are shrinking so we have been experimenting with new cooker configurations to focus on space-saving and ease of use for the consumer. While microwaves and ovens have been used in banks of appliances for some time, the Stoves Duo Cook SEB900FPSMW and Belling BI90FMW Micro Cook are the first products on the market to combine the two in a single unit and we believe they will really appeal to those with smaller kitchens. 0844 248 4149 0844 248 4149 www.stoves.co.uk www.belling.co.uk

look to the futu

De Dietrich has done a lot to advance the cause of induction. The 93cm Piano zoneless induction hob is the most sophisticated yet - and offers several different modes for flexible cooking. The intuitive interface on the full colour TFT screen, combined with the Quick User Guide, makes the Piano hob simple and easy to use. Time and temperature can be individually and confidently controlled at a touch. Expert Mode uses the entire 81cm by 40cm cooking area. Up to five differently sized pans can be placed on the hob and it will detect the pans presence, wherever it is situated. Should the pan be moved anywhere on the hob, sensors will automatically ensure that the temperature remains constant, delivering total zoneless cooking. In Piano Mode the cooking surface is converted to three separate cooking zones, which reflect the design of a piano keyboard. Pans can be added to each zone, as required, and the temperature of each zone can be precisely adjusted to suit the cooking requirements. Solo Mode is designed to emulate a professional chefs hot all over hotplate so all pans are at the same temperature. 01256 308067 www.dedietrich.co.uk

The Infinite Pure induction hob from Electrolux, the worlds first fully backlit hob, offers a dramatic centrepiece for any kitchen. Thats because the simplicity of the InfinitePure induction hobs sleek black rectangle is retained until the hob is turned on. Thats when the hobs new, intuitive rotary sliders appear. The controls are inspired by professional chefs need for instant, precise heat control. The power level for a zone is selected with a single touch then fine-tuned with a separate rotary shaped slider. Our InfinitePure hobs with intuitive DirectAccess sliders give you incredibly precise fine-tuning for cooking delicate sauces like Hollandaise, says Sophie Davidson of Electrolux. Yet almost instant high heat means you can be ready to sear meat or fish in seconds. Like other members of the Infinite Induction family, InfinitePure uses flexible cooking zones that automatically adjust to a pans exact shape and size (as long as the cross is covered). 08455 610561 www.electrolux.co.uk

Whirlpool has improved its Fusion built-in oven, increasing the capacity to a huge 73 litres and an energy rating of A-20%. The new large capacity Fusion oven with its upgraded energy rating of A-20% offers the retailer extra value at point of sale, alongside the numerous benefits thanks to Whirlpools innovative technology. Whirlpools clever and intuitive patented 6th Sense technology senses the weight of food in the oven and automatically adapts and controls the cooking process to ensure perfect results.
