TEACHING EXPERIENCE Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, Granite School District Aug. 2012-March 2013 Student Teacher South Salt Lake, Utah Teaching in a Title I school in a fourth grade classroom with 26 students from 11 different countries and cultural backgrounds, 6 students still below Expanding level of English Language Proficiency, and 2 students receiving Special Education Services. Taught lessons using Go Math and Imagine It! programs. Experienced assessing students using Acuity and DIBELS. Integrated technology including student use of Inspiration, Microsoft PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word to demonstrate learning. Facilitated a service learning project chosen by students. Students learned to write opinion essays, use math to create blankets, use multiple sources when conducting research, create brochures and PowerPoint presentations to present information, and give oral presentations in order to give service to a local animal shelter. Planned and taught an integrated Utah Studies unit during which students used critical thinking skills to sort pictures of prominent and historical Utah buildings by age, wrote narrative texts and letters from the point of view of prominent figures in Utah history, used math and science to evaluate the population of Utah counties, used writing and presenting skills to teach others about their cultures and their families reasons for coming to Utah, and created digital menus to explore the different cultures represented in Utah. Planned and taught a unit on themes using song lyrics and poetry. Prepped for and participated in four nights of parent teacher conferences.
Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, Granite School District Long Term Substitute Teacher Team-taught a second grade classroom of 24 students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Planned with my team teacher and grade level team. Prepped and organized the classroom as if it were the start of a new year. Established a classroom management plan including classroom layout, procedures, and the Big 8. Planned and taught units in Go Math, science, and social studies. University of Utah Reading Clinic Reading Tutor Tutored a 5th grade boy using the Higher Steps reading program.
