My students have a or 1 inch 3-ring binder that
they use as a poetry notebook. Every Monday, I
introduce a new poem. I read the poem to students
the first time, then they practice reading with me.
These are great for fluency and expression. We
hole punch the pages and place them in their poetry
notebook. Then, each day we complete an
extension activity related to the poem. These are
great for the students to revisit during independent
reading time to improve their fluency. The next
page is a cover for students to place in the clear
vinyl cover of their notebook. Then you will find 5
poems and extension activities, enough for each
week of a 4 or 5 week month. Look for one of
these freebie packets for each monthonly
available on my blog. Enjoy!

Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And youll never feel lonely
At night when youre in bed.

The little poem will sing to you
And the little picture will bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when youre in bed.

So
Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
And youll never feel lonely
At night when youre in bed.
