How to use Suica in a Store

(1)Tell the shop assistant that you want to pay by Suica.
Suica

Suica was designed with the premise that it will be used at Suica-compatible ticket gates. The area of use, therefore, will be restricted to the Suica usable area (see pages 22 to 24, 37 to 38, and 41 to 42). If you plan to travel beyond the Suica usable area, purchase a ticket beforehand. If you do travel beyond the area, notify the station staff where you get off. You will be asked to pay the additional fare in cash. Suica also can be used in the TOICA area, however it cannot span the areas such as Odawara (Suica area) and Numazu (TOICA area). Suica is designed to adjust the fares at the automatic ticket gate in the respectively effective areas, therefore, it is not possible to automatically adjust the fares beyond the areas. If you plan to travel beyond the Suica usable area, such as from the Suica area to the TOICA area, please purchase a ticket beforehand.

Q4

I cannot use my Suica although it has a sufcient stored fare balance. What could be the problem?

Q7

Can I use up the one yen units of the stored fare balance ?
1

The following are probable reasons why you cannot use Suica. However, rst check your pass case to see if there is a problem. If you still cannot use Suica, request help from the station staff at the ticket gate in the Suica area.
Suica

You can use one yen units when shopping with Suica, but the minimum calculated unit in rail and bus travel is ten yen. (Multiple one yen units in the balance of multiple Suica cannot be added together for use.) Note that one yen units are rounded up to a ten yen unit when a refund is being made.

There is an object in your pass case that is interfering with the ticket gates scanner signal (see page 8). You have used a station outside of the Suica area, and your Suica requires processing. An extensive period of time has passed since you last used your Suica. The Suica itself is damaged.

Q5

What should I do if I have insufcient stored fare balance on my Suica?

Suica

If the stored fare balance is insufcient, you may either recharge or use Suica along with cash to buy tickets at a ticket vending machine. If you nd the balance becomes insufcient after you have passed through the ticket gate, please use a fare adjustment machine to recharge. If the balance is insufcient when shopping with Suica, you cannot recharge at the store, except at some establishments. Please add sufcient stored fare in advance at a ticket vending machine, etc. (You cannot use multiple Suica at the same time.)
