Emails: electronic platform for sending and receiving information and/or data with the aid of the internet. The benefits of using e-mail may include: It is faster to transmit (almost instantaneous); It is more convenient and ecologically friendly (no paper); There is an automatic record of when the e-mail is read; It is possible to send the e-mail to number of recipients for no extra effort Furthermore the use of email over the internet is preferred to the postal system because: It is faster than post(an unlike telephone message, time differences are unimportant); It is more convenient and ecologically friendly (no paper); It is possible to send the same email to a number of recipients for no extra effort. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a real-time communications system that allows Internet users to chat with each other in channels, or rooms, as well as via private messaging. There are many IRC software applications available, some of them browser based. Transferring files is just one of many additional features available in IRC. Gopher:A type of Internet service first floated around 1991 and obsolesced around 1995 by the World Wide Web. Gopher presents a menuing interface to a tree or graph of links; the links can be to documents, run- able programs, or other gopher menus arbitrarily far across the net. Some claim that the gopher software, which was originally developed at the University of Minnesota, was named after the Minnesota Gophers (a sports team). Others claim the word derives from American slang `gofer' (from "go for", dialectal "go fer"), one whose job is to run and fetch things. Finally, observe that gophers dig long tunnels, and the idea of tunneling through the net to find information was a defining metaphor for the developers. Probably all three things were true, but with the first two coming first and the gopher-tunnel metaphor

serendipitously adding flavor and impetus to the project as it developed out of its concept stage. WAIS (Wide Area Information Servers): These servers allow users to conduct fulltext keyword searches in documents, databases, and libraries connected to the Internet. From Glossary of Distance Education and Internet Terminology. It is a commercial software package that allows the indexing of huge quantities of information, and then making those indices searchable across networks such as the Internet. A prominent feature of WAIS is that the search results are ranked ("scored") according to how relevant the "hits" are and that subsequent search can find "more stuff like that last batch" and thus refine the search process. Archives- serves as digital Repository supplies and combination best meets customers/ clients needs: Main purposes: Digitizationconverting physical or electronic collections to standard digital formats for preservation and online access Catalogingcreating metadata that allows users to locate and search digital collections in a consistent, meaningful way Preservationensuring the long-term accessibility and integrity of digital collections Web Accessproviding optimal online access to digital collections through high-speed networks and multimedia productions File-server accessoffering high-quality, high-bandwidth file management capabilities to access, manage, and manipulate large digital collections. to determine which data

N.B// Hence, archives are created to help individuals and organizations manage and preserve valuable digital materials, the Archives strengths in technology and research to capture and preserve collections of significant educational, cultural, and research value. Telnet: This program enables connection to foreign or remote host computers, (usually mainframes) and provides access information on them. E.g. The telnet command is used for interactive communication with another host using the TELNET protocol. SSL telnet (d) replaces normal telnet (d) using SSL authentication and encryption. It interoperates with normal telnet (d) in both directions. It checks if the other side is also talking SSL, if not it falls back to normal telnet protocol. Advantages over normal telnet (d): Your passwords and the data you send will not go in clear text over the line. Nobody can get it with TCP dump or similar tools. With SSLtelnet you can also connect to https-server like https://www.netscape.com. Just do 'telnet www.netscape.com 443' Push channels Helps to Manage and publish visual content at the push of a button thus, it quickly manage visual content with Message Servers web interface and publish to all selected media using an easy-to-use web interface, whether its PC, TV, as internal social media, e-mail, SMS text messages or social media such as Face book & Twitter. Hear back from your audience (feedback, tips) and allow them to share your news using the same media. WWW (World Wide Web): World Wide Web (or simply Web for short) is a term frequently used (incorrectly) when referring to "The Internet", WWW has two major meanings: First, loosely used: the whole constellation of resources that can be accessed using Gopher, FTP, HTTP, telnet, USENET, WAIS and some other tools. Second, the universe of hypertext servers (HTTP servers), more commonly called "web servers", which are the servers that serve web pages to web browsers. Web browser: An application that accesses and displays hypertext markup language (HTML) Web pages and other resources available on the World Wide Web (WWW).
