intro: Mod a PlayStation 2 Slimline for FREE! NO CHIPS!
In this tutorial, I will teach you how to mod your playstation 2 to play imports and backups. This process will take 5 (-) minutes. You need swap magic discs which you can
find online.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Mod-a-PlayStation-2-Slimline-for-FREE!-NO-CHIPS!/
step 1: Disassembling the ps2.
Turn the playstation upside down and unscrew the screws.
*NOTE* This will void your warranty.

Okay. Now you have it disassembled. . . Do not touch the power ribbon.

step 2: Modding the hardware

To mod the inside, take a look at the picture. You will see a small cap like piece in the very top right where the red square is.

Layer 2 or 3 pieces of duct tape around this so the cap is not visible. You can also use scotch or masking tape, but duct is recommended.

Once you taped it up, you can put your playstation 2 back together.

step 3: Last step of modding

This is the last step! Woohoo. Once you put your console back together, open the flip top. Look at letter A in this picture. Don't worry about C or B. There is a small hole
in letter A, which is where the flip top closes at.

Take a 1-2cm or so of toilet paper or any tissue and roll it up a little ball, and stick it in the little hole. Open and close it a couple times to get it to stick in there.

Boot up your swap discs and start playing backups! I have been doing this method for months.

I just wanted everyone to know....He says not to touch the power ribbon on the next step MAKE SURE YOU DON"T I was working on my ps2 and made this
mistake....I was shocked, funny colors went everywhere, blew the circuit in my room AND to top it all off....my ps2 no longer works....plus my hand went
numb for a while

TheShawMaestro says: Jul 4, 2008. 12:48 PM REPLY

Could you not just unplug the PS2?

daywalker42 says: Jul 7, 2008. 12:30 AM REPLY

A more intelligent individual would...I usually did but was in a hurry and got cocky...anyhow still don't touch anything power related, capacitors can
hold their charges, I have shocked myself making that mistake too...(I tend to learn things such as this the hard way..lol)

Derin says: Mar 7, 2009. 8:24 AM REPLY

How can you shock yourself with 8.5 Volts?

daywalker42 says: Nov 29, 2008. 9:43 PM REPLY

yes isn't that weird sort of numbness/tingling very specific to shock? :)

Punkguyta says: Oct 15, 2007. 7:56 PM REPLY

Can this be done without the swap magic disk?

Marios_shadow says: Oct 30, 2007. 10:59 PM REPLY

The only alternative method would be to boot from a "Freeloader" on a Gameshark/Action Replay, neither of which work on the Slimline.

In short: No.

Triworm says: Jan 31, 2009. 6:04 AM REPLY

how do you boot from action replay?

gamer-x says: Nov 8, 2008. 6:07 PM REPLY

gameshark works on ps2 slim well... mine does

Punkguyta says: Oct 30, 2007. 11:17 PM REPLY

Alright thanks, I'll probably just shell out for a mod chip down the road.

Hello guys

Just need a little help. I have a ps2 slimline scph 70003 PAL. I bought a swap magic 3.6 recently but I cant play my imports. So, I assumed that I need a flip
top to play imports. Now, I saw the intruction on how to block the sensor, but i saw another video in which the person did the same without opening the
console. he just uncensored the point A B and C. But here i see you asking to open the console ..am a little confused ..can anyone help ..thanks

dito7967 says: Nov 29, 2008. 5:09 PM REPLY

what happens if you dont have a slimline ps2

RiddleOfSphinx says: May 18, 2008. 5:56 AM REPLY

There's a hack you can do using a PS1 disc as a boot disc and your memory card. Although you need some type of disc that allows you access to your
usb drive like Action Replay ( the version with USB support). This site may help you out some on the subject ;)

gamer-x says: Nov 8, 2008. 6:05 PM REPLY

gameshark works too

RiddleOfSphinx says: Nov 9, 2008. 12:54 PM REPLY

Yep, basically anything that can access the usb port I believe :)

gamer-x says: Nov 10, 2008. 6:39 PM REPLY

ya but can u make a instructable about switching the disks

RiddleOfSphinx says: Nov 11, 2008. 3:09 PM REPLY

Aw, switching discs, I was referring to the MC exploit, my bad. I also have a chubby...double my bad :-S ..lol. Good instructable, though :)
Might have to go out and buy a slim just to try this out :D..lol. Here's the link to the site i used for a boot disc to the MC exploit if you want
it mikestyle.com With the MC exploit, I believe you can run swap magic from the MC...if I remember right( it's been a while :P) ...this
thread might help out with using an external hard drive as well. Hope this helps and, again, good instructable :)

gamer-x says: Nov 13, 2008. 5:14 PM REPLY

thanks!!!

RiddleOfSphinx says: Nov 17, 2008. 4:21 PM REPLY

No problem ;)...if you happen to make an instructable using the info I gave ya, remember to give credit where credit is due.
Developers seem to like that a lot ;)...lol.

Dr.Professor_Jake_Biggs says: Nov 17, 2007. 7:09 AM REPLY

Dude, this isn't a "hardware mod". This is a "jam the lid sensor switch with tape and TP" instructable.

Nowhere in here did you mention that playing any game that uses two discs won't work anymore with the switch jammed. If the PS2 doesnt know you've
swapped game discs, it can't run em.

I think a better idea would be to rig a switch up like I did on my PS1. When it's on, the PS1 thinks the lid is always shut. When it's off, the lid switch works
normally. And honestly, what's wrong with a modchip?

Wolf in command says: Nov 7, 2008. 11:55 AM REPLY

whats wrong with a modchip? Dude, do you live under a rock. There illegal in most countries.

I followed our instructions however it didn't work when I put in the burnt version of swap image 3.6 into my ps2 slimline it doesn't read it says bad disc when I
restart it with the cover(fliptop) open when (B)&(C) re not touching it runs and gives me the browser version option then I press xi on browser it says reading
disc then after about 60 seconds it says unable to read disc wat advice can u give me or is there somthing i have done wrong plz help hit me back

gizmondo says: Jul 20, 2008. 3:50 PM REPLY

it's because you need to buy an official swap disc. it needs to be encoded for the ps2, it can't just be a burned copy of the swap disc so just buy one
they're like $10.

psychofish25 says: May 21, 2008. 4:25 PM REPLY

so i dnt need swapmagic or anything? i can just start burning dvds and playing them?

joypad says: Mar 21, 2008. 2:01 AM REPLY

ok how do this mod work???

phoenixrage says: Mar 20, 2008. 4:30 AM REPLY

Ok i followed all instructions, and everything has been done to the specs, however when I put in the swap magic 3.6 disc, it comes up as " There is no data"
lid open. after a while it comes up as "The disc could not be read" I used two different programs Nero and Alchol 120 - there is data burnt on the disc. If i put
the disc in with the lid down it comes up as " please insert a PSX or PS2 Disc." any help would be appriciated to see where i have gone wrong. drop me a
line if you can solve this problem.
cheers

im a dope cause ive taken mine apart at least 5 times now to clean it out/lube up track for laser eye/etc, and when i first helped fix my friends fat one, i got
shocked cause i forgot to unplug it and i touched a metal part near power input. but anyways i would totally do this mod but my slim is about three yrs and its
all f_ed up. its on its last leg. i even have to let it warm up, otherwise the games will skip like a scratched cd.
