Tenants Of Waverley N ews

Welcome to the first edition of our Newsletter with its new name and colours, I hope you enjoy reading it. The panel and myself have spent many hours on this and I am very pleased to tell you that having asked for many quotes we finally settled on a new printing company called Blueprint. This has allowed us to make some excellent savings, printed on an improved quality of paper and we are delighted to work with a local company. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all at Blueprint for all their help and patience. If you have a computer we are currently updating our web page, so that you have more information

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAYS

There have been three community clean up days recently, which the Tenants Panel have been to and helped out. These were great, the local Police Officers, Waverley Staff, Councillors all got involved it was fantastic to see all the young and older residents all working to clean up there communities by litter picking and other activities. I have never seen so many washing machines fridges and even a piano I must say the employees from Veolia worked very hard.

EMPTY PROPERTIES
The Tenants Panel continue to inspect the empty properties before new tenants move in. Jane (the Chair) and Brian (Vice Chair) recently visited Portsmouth City Council to see how they hand over the properties to new tenants, and were quite shocked at the state of the homes they hand over. On inspection of our properties generally they reach the agreed Waverley standard, but sometimes issues arise regarding the cleanliness. The panel feel if someone is paid to clean the properties after workmen have finished, then it should always meet the required standard, otherwise the contract needs to be reviewed.

SHELTERED UNITS VISITS

The panel are continuing with their visits to the sheltered units. We would like to thank the residents and the staff who have continued to make us welcome. When doing these visits we pick up issues that the tenants may have, we always try hard to resolve these queries, unfortunately on occasions requests are impossible for a number of reasons but we will always endeavour to do our best. We have recently been to Riverside Court in Farnham for a coffee morning, they were celebrating their 25th Birthday, Sir Harry Secombe opened Riverside Court 25years ago. Mrs Burge was working there the day it was opened and she retired at the grand age of 80 years old and is now a very happy resident of Riverside Court. Another

CENSUS 2011
Helping Waverley Borough Council take shape as the 2011 Census approaches. On Sunday 27th March residents in Waverley will take part in the nations biggest survey, as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) carries out the 2011 Census in England and Wales. Every ten years a census takes a numerical snapshot on a single date to gain an accurate picture of the population. The census statistics that are produced help Waverley and Surrey County Council to correctly target funding to public services from leisure centres to schools and hospitals. Thats why its crucial that all residents take part so the population estimate is as accurate as possible (and its compulsory). By completing the Census you will be playing your part in helping tomorrow take shape in your community. Your personal information is protected by law, securely protected, kept confidential for 100 years and not shared with anyone (including local and central government) The 2011 Census doesnt want anyone to fall behind so there is a wide range of help options available such as language guidance booklets, large print format, Text Relay and census field staff on hand, as well as online help and telephone call centres. More information about the 2011 Census can be found at: www.census.gov.uk and the temporary jobs being created at www.censusjobs.co.uk

resident Mrs Bland celebrated her 103 Birthday on Christmas Day we all wish her well and hope she had a wonderful birthday. The panel members had a very enjoyable morning as the residents celebrated with cake and a glass of wine.

WAVERLEY VERSUS THE FOXES

There was a circular concrete litterbin in Roke Lane, Witley by the side of the telephone box. Despite being emptied by Waverley on a regular basis, the bin was often targeted by foxes. With a little encouragement from the Tenants Panel, Waverley Borough Council have since provided a letterbox style bin and as a result villagers no longer have to clear up the verges! But a big THANK YOU to all that went out with latex gloves ready for action.

COMMUNITY ROOMS
The Tenants Panel have been involved with the Tenants consultation that has been taking place in the Borough. A lot has been learned from these meeting, which are now in the process of being looked at, following the results of the tenants survey and discussions. We can assure all tenants that NO decision has been taken on any closures. Solutions need to be found so that these community rooms do not continue to make a loss, as we need to make them viable. Some community rooms may have to close, but all of the Tenants suggestions are being taken on board so that a sensible solution can be made that is why the consultation has taken place.

DIY DAY
Some Tenants and panel members attended the DIY day at Blunden Court in Bramley, everyone who got involved had a really good time learning how to hang wallpaper, putting up shelves and bricklaying this was arranged by MITIE our contractors so a big thank you to everyone who came along. If you would like to get involved in the next DIY day. Please contact Jeanette Arnold on: 01483 523196 or email: jeanette.Arnold@waverley.gov.uk

MAINTANENCE FOCUS GROUP

Recently some focus groups were held for tenants whom had recently had Mitie in to do a repair in their home. These were very good and we were able to meet with many tenants who had not attended meetings with the Housing Staff before so lots of new faces it was great to see more tenants getting involved some had good stories to tell and some not so good. I am sure everything that the officers took away with them will have now been dealt with, so thank you to all of those tenants who attended.
