Conception of an ideal balanced preamble Proposed by Ryan Favro (Youth Representative of London-West) The New Democratic Party is a democratic socialist party that seeks the creation of a social democratic society in Canada and believes that the common good of Canadians must be achieved through upholding freedom, justice, solidarity, and sustainability. Co-operative interaction among people is an ethical and material necessity of a stable and united society based upon respect of people's inherent rights to freedom, equality in law, equitable opportunities, and livable incomes, to allow all people to satisfy their needs and realize their aspirations. A free and just society requires political and economic democracy where democratic forms of control and decision-making are utilized within the government and economic firms. The fulfillment of political and economic democracy is essential to achieving social democracy. People have the right to demand and receive from their government such regulations and interventions necessary to protect their health, safety, and security. Such a society requires that all people must have sufficient wealth and influence, and these must not be monopolized by a few. Environmental sustainability is a necessity to achieve a stable society. Clean and renewable resources and practices must be promoted and utilized to preserve the environment. The New Democratic Party stands in international solidarity with all people who strive for freedom, equality, justice, sustainability, peace, self-determination of individuals and communities, international co-operation, the elimination of poverty, and the common good for all people.

The third paragraph is the most important portion. Material along the lines of this must be included in any proposed preamble for it to be compatible with the NDP's long-held commitment to economic democracy. This paragraph resolves problems of language that makes our party appear to advocate late-1940s British Labour Party style policies of mass nationalizations that are economically unviable today. The preamble will be balanced if it meets the interests of the widest array of members in the party, is consistent with the general themes of stances and goals in the party's history, if it emphasizes and appeals to the needs of people as prerequisites for stances and goals, it needs to be clear and to the point, it needs to use easily-understandable language, avoids insubstantial rhetoric, and needs to be adapted to modern conditions and needs.

Pour que le peuple puisse satisfaire ses besoins et raliser ses aspirations il faut que la socit soit base sur le respect des droits inhrents du peuple pour la libert, laccs lgalit et un salaire juste. Pour avoir une socit libre et juste, on doit avoir une dmocratie politique et conomique, o les formes dmocratiques de contrle sont utilises entre le gouvernement et les firmes conomiques. La ralisation dune dmocratie politique et conomique est essentielle pour atteindre une socit sociale-dmocrate. Le peuple a le droit de demander et de recevoir, de leur gouvernement, les rgulations et interventions ncessaires pour protger leur sant, sret et scurit. Dans cette socit il faut que chaque personne aille une richesse et une influence suffisante et que celle-ci ne soient pas monopoliss. La durabilit environnementale est ncessaire pour atteindre une socit stable. Il est important de promouvoir les ressources et pratiques renouvelables pour prserver lenvironnement. Le Nouveau Parti dmocratique travaille en solidarit avec ceux qui tentent d'obtenir la libert, lgalit, la justice, la paix, l'autodtermination des individus et des communauts, la coopration internationale, llimination de la pauvret et le bien commun pour tout le monde. Ce paragraphe rsout les problmes de langage quvoquent les sentiments du parti travailliste britannique a la fin des annes 1940 au sujet des nationalisations en masse qui sont non viable aujourdhui. Cette prambule trouvera un quilibre si il reprsente les intrts de la majorit des membres du parti et si ceci correspond aux buts du parti. Il faut que le prambule soit clair et prcis, en utilisant un langage comprhensible sans rhtorique, et il faut que ce soit adaptable aux conditions et besoins modernes.
