Is frequently unsupervised or left alone or allowed to play in unsafe situations and environments. Is frequently late or missing from school. Warning signs of sexual abuse in children Trouble walking or sitting. Displays knowledge or interest in sexual acts inappropriate to his or her age, or even seductive behavior. Makes strong efforts to avoid a specific person, without an obvious reason. Doesnt want to change clothes in front of others or participate in physical activities. An STD or pregnancy, especially under the age of 14. Runs away from home. Child abuse and reactive attachment disorder Severe abuse early in life can lead to reactive attachment disorder. Children with this disorder are so disrupted that they have extreme difficulty establishing normal relationships and attaining normal developmental milestones. They need special treatment and support.

Warning signs of child abuse and neglect The earlier child abuse is caught, the better the chance of recovery and appropriate treatment for the child. Child abuse is not always obvious. By learning some of the common warning signs of child abuse and neglect, you can catch the problem as early as possible and get both the child and the abuser the help that they need. Of course, just because you see a warning sign doesnt automatically mean a child is being abused. Its important to dig deeper, looking for a pattern of abusive behavior and warning signs, if you notice something off. Warning signs of emotional abuse in children Excessively withdrawn, fearful, or anxious about doing something wrong. Shows extremes in behavior (extremely compliant or extremely demanding; extremely passive or extremely aggressive).

Doesnt seem to be attached to the parent or caregiver. Acts either inappropriately adult (taking care of other children) or inappropriately infantile (rocking, thumb-sucking, throwing tantrums). Warning signs of physical abuse in children Frequent injuries or unexplained bruises, welts, or cuts. Is always watchful and on alert, as if waiting for something bad to happen. Injuries appear to have a pattern such as marks from a hand or belt. Shies away from touch, flinches at sudden movements, or seems afraid to go home. Wears inappropriate clothing to cover up injuries, such as longsleeved shirts on hot days. Warning signs of neglect in children Clothes are ill-fitting, filthy, or inappropriate for the weather. Hygiene is consistently bad (unbathed, matted and unwashed hair, noticeable body odor). Untreated illnesses and physical injuries.

NB!!!!!!!!!!! Rapporte / Reports & Oueraand / Parent Evening: A.g.v. die CAPS-vereistes en assessering wat gaan plaasvind, sal rapporte vanaf graad 1 tot 7 eers op Vrydag, 12/4/2013 uitgedeel word. Oueraand skuif na Woensdag, 17/4/2013. Maak asb. n afspraak met u kind se vakonderwyser. Afsprake is 10 minute lank, skakel Mev. Woodward om afsprake te maak. Asprake slegs i.v.m. punte. (Alle kinders moet tot op die laaste skooldag aanwesig wees, daar word voortgegaan met skoolwerk en die graad 7s skryf nog n Wiskunde-toets.) As a result of the CAPS requirements and the assessment that is taking place, the reports for grades 1 to 7 will be sent out on Friday, 12/4/2013. Parent evening will be held on Wednesday,17/4/2013 (only by appointment). Contact Mrs Woodward to make an appointment with your childs subject-teacher. Each appointment will be 10 minutes and may only be to discuss marks. (All children must attend school until the very last day of the term, we will continue with the syllabus and the grade 7s are writing a mathematics test.)

Dear Parents We would like to inform you of the following changes in the school assessments and recording so as to avoid any misconceptions or confusion. The WCED has set up a new system for the recording of assessment marks on standardised recording sheets and schedules. These comply with CAPS assessment protocol and each section of a particular subject is weighted according to CAPS criteria. The learners totals and codes are then automatically processed and inserted on the recording sheet, schedule and report. Please take this into consideration when viewing your childs assessment tasks. The mere totalling of marks will not necessarily enable you to calculate the code which will appear on the report. Geagte Ouers Ons wil u graag verwittig van die veranderinge in die skoolassessering en optekening om te verhoed dat daar verwarring of onsekerheid ontstaan. Die WKOD het n nuwe stelsel ontwikkel vir die optekening van assesseringspunte op gestandaardiseerde optekeningsblaaie en skedules. Hierdie optekeningsblaaie is opgestel volgens KAPVassesseringsprotokol en elke deel van n spesefieke vak dra n sekere gewig, volgens KAPV-standaarde. Die leerder se totale en kodes is outomaties verwerk en verskyn dan op die optekeningsblaaie, skedule en verslag. Neem die bostaande asseblief in ag wanneer u na u kind se assesseringstake kyk. Deur die punte op te tel, gaan u nie noodwendig by dieselfde kode uitkom wat op u kind se verslag is nie.

Atletiek / Athletics
Baie geluk aan ons twee Wes-Kaap atlete wat aan die SA Atletiekkampioenskappe in Sasolburg deelgeneem het. Nathan de Lange is gekroon as Suid-Afrika se kampioen verspring-atleet vir seuns O/13, nadat hy eerste gekom het in hierdie item. Gabi Bennett het 13de in die land geindig in die 1200m vir dogters O/12. Voorwaar n ongelooflike prestasie. WPS is baie trots op julle altwee!!

Rugby
O/13A - Eikestad aandtoernooi, 14/3/2013: WPS wen Hugenote Laerskool 40-0 wen Laerskool Worcester-Noord 35-5 gelykop vs Laerskool Eversdal 10-10 WPS is aangewys as algehele wenner van die toernooi deurdat ons die meeste drie vir die aand gedruk het. Ons het R2000 se geskenkbewyse vir die spelers, geborg deur De Jagers, en R1000 vir die skool gewen! WPS 7s Rugby, 16/3/2013: Die O/13-afdeling van WPS se 7s Rugbytoernooi word deur ons eie skool se O/13-span gewen. Hulle wen Victoria Park in n spannende finaal met 17-10 Baie geluk aan hierdie seuns!!

ATKV-Redenaars
Ons is baie trots op Jana Blomerus, Shelomi Truter, Tehillah Truter en Elsa Burger wat op 15 Maart aan die ATKV Redenaarskompetisie deelgeneem het en ons skool se naam hoog gehou het. Baie geluk aan Elsa Burger wat deurgedring het na die halfeindrondte wat op 22/3 plaasgevind het.

Die O/13A-netbal en O/13A-(dogters) hokkiespan wil vir Worcester Nissan en Sasko bedank vir hul pragtige netbaltops. n Baie groot dankie aan tannie Andrea Vlok en tannie Esther Pettit vir al hulle moeite en relings om hierdie mooi tops vir ons te laat maak.
