This knit shawl is a timeless design that can be worn now and look as fashionable as it did decades ago.
Shawl is 58 across long edge x 29 at back point, excluding fringe. RED HEART Super Saver: 3 Skeins 256 Carrot. Circular Knitting Needle: 5mm [US 8], 36 long. Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]. Stitch markers, yarn needle. GAUGE: 14 sts = 4; 20 rows = 4 in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge. NOTE: Shawl is worked back and forth in rows starting at center of long edge. Stitches are increased at edges and center point to make sides. Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of stitches. SPECIAL ABBREVIATION Popcorn: [Knit in front and in back] 3 times in next st 6 sts on right-hand needle, pass each st one at a time over last st made 1 st remains. SHAWL Starting at center of long edge, cast on 3 sts. Row 1: K1, [yo, k1] twice 5 sts. Row 2: Knit. Row 3: [K1, yo] twice, place marker, k1 for center st, place marker, [yo, k1] twice 9 sts. Row 8: K1, p6, k1, knit center stitch, k1, p6, k1. Row 9: K1, yo, [k2tog, yo] to 1 st before marker, k1, yo, knit center stitch, yo, k1, yo, [k2tog tbl, yo] to last stitch, k1 21 sts; 4 sts increased. Row 10: K1, purl to 1 st before marker, k3, purl to last stitch, k1. Row 11: K1, yo, knit to marker, yo, k1, yo, knit to last stitch, yo, k1 25 sts. Row 12: Knit. Rows 13-15: Repeat Rows 11-12, then Row 11 33 sts on last row. Row 16: Repeat Row 10. Row 17: K1, yo, k3, [Popcorn in next st, k3] to marker, yo, knit center stitch, yo, [k3, Popcorn in next st] across to last 4 sts, k3, yo, k1 37 sts. Row 18-24: Repeat Rows 10-16. Repeat Rows 9-24 for 8 more times, then Rows 9-14 once. Bind off. FINISHING Weave in ends. Fringe Cut 4 stands of yarn, each 16 long for each Fringe. Holding 4 strands together, fold strands in half. Insert crochet hook along bind-off edge of Shawl and pull folded end through. Pull ends of strands through folded loop and pull to tighten. Attach Fringe in every other st along bind-off row.
