For that reason we will start early, namely at 5:45 pm instead of our usual 7 pm. If you are late, for some good reason, come in quietly from the back. Everyone should bring a snack. April Business Meeting Report We welcomed new club members, Linda Lee and Glen Meyers. And were glad to hear that Sr. Joelise Restle is rejoining the club after a year off due to illness. Officers for next year, by acclamation, will remain the same as this year. Richard Yehl has filled the position of club president for lo so many years, ably one might add, but after 2014 someone else must step up to be president. Thanks were given to Sandra Weber for her work as VP, for setting up our web site, and for our group enrollment in Flickr. There was discussion about competition categories, and it was decided that we will add digital mono to the category list so that we will have digital color, digital pj, digital nature and digital mono. Kathy Braun suggested that we give more recognition to competitors by awarding medals instead of just ribbons to winners. Kathy is to find out about availability and cost of medals and we will decide on this next September. Dixie Lowin, our treasurer, reported we have $1706.04 in the bank. Dues will remain the same, that is, $20 per person and $30 per couple. Dues should be paid at the May meeting. Phil Block talked about his leading a photo safari to the UP in October 2-6. Program Ideas for 2013/14 A whirlwind of ideas were presented for next year programs. One was how to make good prints. Since there are many facets to printmaking, this might be a venue for a group discussion as to just what is a good print and ways to make one. Someone suggested a program on calibration of monitors, so that prints are good, and this led to talk of photo labs, among which were Allied Photo Lab in Germantown, Nations Photo Lab, and Adorama. The use of electronic flash and multiple electronic flash was suggested as a program. HDR and image stacking might make a program.

Other ideas were to show photos of what we did during our summer break, and programs featuring themed photographs, such as color, festivals, night photos, found objects, etc. A session on portrait shooting was suggested, and Jim Krivitz said he would bring in back board panels and various reflectors. Richard Yehl said he would come up with a demonstration of lighting with one, two, and three strobe lights. A meeting of club officers will take place to sort through these suggestions. From all these program ideas, our president will come up with an agenda for the 2013/14 year, and get it out to the members by July 1st. Outings Eight club members showed up for the outing to the Milwaukee Art Museum to see Color Rush, to enjoy a meal at Katies Diner, and several went afterwards to see the Domes. Photos from the outing will show up in Flickr, in our web site, and perhaps at our end of year banquet. In the future, outings, if possible, will be on Saturdays, so that those of us who are yet not retired can participate. WACCO News To repeat what was in the last newsletter, Mary Dumont announced the second annual exhibit in the Reuss building of prints by WACCO members. The theme is urban or natural landscapes. Photos must be mounted and framed, the frames at least 16 x 20 inches. Each photographer can submit two digital images for consideration, to Mary Dumont by July 27. Rick Sammon Presentation April 13 The Wehr Nature Center in association with Canon, will present Exploring the Light with Rich Sammon, and three other photographers, George Sanquist, Marcia Getto, and Jill Moore. It will be held at Laura Lampe Hall, Alverno College, at 3400 S. 43rd St. It is completely booked. If you are already registered get there before 9:45 to check in. Wisconsin Circuit Competition and Exhibition Judging of the Wisconsin Circuit competition is March 23rd and April 20, starting at 8am, in the Waukesha State Bank, Oconomowoc. Anyone can go there to see the photos (from photographers around the world), and some of our member will assist in the judging. Jerry Harders will help judge PJ/Nature March 23rd. On April 20 Kathy Braun and Bert Hartinger will help judge Color, and Richard Yehl, Phil Block, and Howard Vrankin will help judge Nature. COPA The 8th annual members exhibition of COPA members starts April 19. It will be at 600 E. Mason, at the corner of Mason and Jackson streets. PSA Councils Challenge Kathy Braun reported on PSA doings. Entries must be ready for presentation at the May 4th delegates meeting. Some of our competition entries will be picked by club officials for the Challenge. Members were asked to each send a digital mono image to Sandra Weber, for the competition. This year our banquet will be May 16, at Meyers Restaurant, on Greenfield and Forest Home Avenue. Cost is $15.95 (tip included). Pay at the May meeting. Get there at 6pm, for a meal to start at 7. Bing ten outing photos, or loved ones images, or lacking any of those, just ten images. From the President In a note to the Secretary, Richard says Each and every one of you is special to this club. That is what makes the medium of photography a powerful tool in the world around us.
