Special Requirements Demolition Works The Contractor shall remove all existing pontoons units, fittings, attachments and services from the Site unless otherwise directed by the Superintendent. The Contractor shall also undertake a sea bed clean-up for rubbish or any foreign material following demolition of the works. The Contractor shall cut-off and dispose of existing piles that are not required for the installation of the new floating pontoon system. Plies shall be cut off at a minimum 500mm below existing seabed level. Pontoon Materials The pontoon flotation system shall be constructed of polyethylene, or a similar approved equivalent material.

The pontoon units shall be of proven durable, robust construction such that maintenance requirements are minimised. The pontoons shall be resistant to: Ultraviolet light; Salt water; Petrochemicals; Marine organisms; and Fire.

Walkway and Finger Dimensions Main walkways shall be minimum 2.5m wide. The fingers shall incorporate a pile at each end, be a minimum of 0.9m wide for pens 15m and below, be a minimum of 1.3m for pens over 15m. All fingers shall be 100% of the length of the pen.

Piles All piles shall be open tube steel piles installed into the seabed using a method as approved by the Superintendent.

Fenders Fenders shall be provided to the edges of the pontoons to assist in absorbing the impact from manoeuvring vessels. The energy absorption capacity required shall be determined in accordance with AS 4997 and BS 6349 Part 1, based on the vessel parameters and the approach velocity recommended in AS 3962 and AS 4997. Floating Berths The Contractor shall provide drawings and calculations for the proposed floating berth system, including pontoon stability, loaded and unloaded freeboard, fenders, walkway connections, finger connections and pontoon to mooring pile connections.
