Euthanasia My group mates and I are favoring Euthanasia or mercy killing.

To give you a little background about, Euthanasia is the termination of a very sick person's life in order to relieve them of their suffering. In most cases euthanasia is carried out because the person asks to die, but there are cases where a person can't make such a request, instead it is up to the decision of family and relatives. A person who undergoes euthanasia is usually terminally ill. Euthanasia can be carried out either by doing something, such as administering a lethal injection, or by not doing something necessary to keep the person alive (for example failing to keep their feeding tube going). Pros We are fully aware that we have the freedom of choice. It goes with death. The idea that people have the right to privacy and freedom of belief give a person the right to decide how and when to die. An individual should have the liberty to choose induced death if he is suffering from an incurable disease where even the best treatment doesnt improve his quality of life. It is cruel and inhumane to refuse someone the right to die, when he is subjected to intolerable and unstoppable pain, or distress. For example, your loved one is in comatose for how many years already and no chance of living but is still breathing with only the help of a machine, would you rather see him live in pain or shorten his suffering and die in peace? Euthanasia may not be the best option to die but it is better than knowing than you are just a living dead. If we deny them this right, we make a claim that we own their lives. We own the product of their time, energy and utility. This is something we must never fall into. The euthanasia procedure is intended for use by patients who are dying, or in a condition that will get worse. The normal procedure for

euthanasia would have to be initiated at the patient's request. It is possible that someone who has just become disabled may feel depressed enough to ask for death, which is why any proposed system of euthanasia must include psychological support and assessment before the patient's wish is granted. All patients who request euthanasia require the diagnoses of at least two doctors to verify the terminal nature of their illness, and undergo psychological examination by these doctors and often other experts to examine the reasons for their choice. So it is not right away that doctors do lethal injections and the likes without undergoing an analysis. All people should have equal rights and opportunities to live, or to choose not to go on living. Some doctors report a number of patients don't have their pain properly relieved during the terminal phase of their illness, despite good palliative and hospice care. Some patients may prefer death to dependency, because they hate relying on other people for all their bodily functions, and the consequent loss of privacy and dignity. Euthanasia should be a natural extension of patients rights allowing him to decide the value of life and death for him. Maintaining life support systems against patients wish is considered unethical by law as well as medical philosophy. If the patient has the right to discontinue treatment why would he not have the right to shorten his lifetime to escape the intolerable anguish? Isnt the pain of waiting for death frightening and traumatic? If the dying process is unpleasant, people should have the right to shorten it, and thus reduce the unpleasantness. Besides, euthanasia should be allowed when it is in the best interests of all involved and does not hurt others in any physical way other than the patient himself. Legalizing euthanasia would help alleviate suffering in terminally ill patients. It would be inhuman and unfair to make them endure the unbearable pain. The motive of euthanasia is to aid-in-dying painlessly and the lawmakers should consider this positively. Aside from that, there is nothing in the bible that tells us we must do everything we can to keep someone alive for as long as possible. So, we are not under obligation to prolong the life of someone who is suffering or on

the verge of dying. But this will be further discussed later.

Doctors are supposed to save someones life. Yes, but theyre not God they cant save someones life if they are on the verge of dying. They are only there to help them. Miracles do happen. Yes, I believe in that but how sure are you that youre of the lucky few who will get to witness this? You are just making someones life miserable as it already is, knowing in your heart that he has no chance of living. Would you rather see our loved one living in pain with no chance of living or die in peace knowing it will be easier for him? I am not saying I am doubting Gods power over death but lets be practical one in a while. Segueing the topic already. A central concept to a 'good' death is one that allows a person to die on his or her own terms relatively pain free with dignity.
