A
full-service clinic, Chalet
Dental Care offers the
latest technology in den-
tistry, from routine procedures to
tooth restorations, to implants and
periodontal specialties.
The clinic also provides tooth whit-
ening, orthodontic clear braces, cosmetic
Botox treatments and more.
Botox treatments, you ask?
While some people might not expect
to see nonsurgical cosmetic procedures
on the list of services at a dental office,
Chalets staff members explain its some-
thing their patients have been requesting
and is a more natural fit than you might
think.
Dentistry is becoming more com-
prehensive. People want to change their
appearance and reduce the signs of aging.
They want smile makeovers and that
includes smoothing out their fine lines
and wrinkles, says Bridget LaBahn,
patient care coordinator.
Dr. Brent Fredrickson adds that a den-
tist providing cosmetic Botox injections
makes a lot of sense. Dentists are already
familiar with head and neck anatomy
and muscles, and weve spent our entire
careers perfecting the technique of pain-
less injections.
Botox is a safe way to minimize wrin-
kles, Fredrickson explains. The beauty
of Botox treatments is patients see an
improvement in their appearance within
two to eight days.
The cost is far less than intrusive
cosmetic surgeries, and once the Botox
effects begin to wear off in four to six
months, the wrinkles are the same as
their baseline and, in some cases, less
evident.
Creating attractive smiles
Among the clinics newer offerings
are clear Invisalign braces, a popular
alternative to metal braces. Adults
are often self-conscious about the
appearance of traditional braces, and
Invisalign invisible braces offer a quick
and attractive alternative to correct
an unsightly gap or straighten crooked
teeth.
Since the Invisalign braces can be
removed, patients get to eat whatever
they want and their teeth can be easily
cleaned.
Another option for improving ones
appearance is teeth whitening. Dr.
Fredrickson says, It is a very inexpen-
sive, popular way of enhancing your
smile.
Chalet Dental offers the latest in
chairside whitening as well as numer-
ous safe, medically approved take-home
products.
We work closely with patients to
find techniques that will give them
optimal results, Dr. Fredrickson notes.
Latest technologies
The clinic now has a dental micro-
scope, which helps illuminate and
magnify the working field. It offers
more precise dentistry, because we are
able to see the tooth structure in far
greater detail, Dr. Fredrickson says.
A 3M Chairside Oral Scanner
makes dental images that allow the
dentists to produce crowns, restora-
tions and splints in a single visit.
Chalet Dental also offers digital
X-rays. This environmentally friendly
technology eliminates the need for
film or chemicals and reduces patients
radiation exposure by 75 percent.
The staff is continually training in
new technologies and techniques in
patient care. Each hygienist has com-
pleted advanced courses and has addi-
tional licensure to offer their patients
superior services.
Expanding practice
Dr. Fredrickson joined Chalet
Dental Care in 1997 before taking it
over in 2001. Dr. Trisha Rieck joined
in with Fredrickson in 2001, and Dr.
Gregory Smith came aboard in 2009.
Recently, Roseville dentist Dr.
William Hite closed his Larpenteur
Avenue clinic and moved his practice
to Chalet Dental. Dr. Hite is working
part time at the clinic leading up to
his retirement in October, when he
will mark his 30th year of practicing
dentistry.
The Chalet Dental support staff
prioritize communication with patients
and make sure everyone feels welcome.
Our goals are to offer exceptional
service, on-time scheduling and qual-
ity patient care in a friendly, comfort-
able environment, Dr. Fredrickson
says.

remarks that he
would like his cre-
mation ashes scattered around his
northwoods property or under
a favorite tree he planted in his
backyard, grieving loved ones fre-
quently carry out his wishes with-
out pause.
Then, usually about the time they
decide to sell his now-empty house or
weekend retreat, regrets set in. The
family members realize someone else
will soon own the property, and their
access to Grandpas final resting place
will be permanently cut off.
At Roselawn Cemetery, super-
intendent Larry Hudella says this
sort of family heartache is becoming
increasingly common as more people
choose cremation.
What to do with a loved ones
ashes is a very personal decision, and
not one that should be made hastily,
Hudella says.
People often find they want a
place they can go to for that sense of
connection, Hudella says. Roselawn
Cemetery provides that place along
with the assurance of perpetual care.
Roselawn has more cremation
placement options than most other
cemeteries in the Twin Cities,
Hudella says. And with those options
comes a very affordable range of
prices, starting at under $600.
Options include:
Split Rock Garden, the cem-
eterys newest columbarium located
near the historic, Cass Gilbert-
designed Roselawn Chapel. Two
separate granite half-cylinders invite
visitors to walk around and between
them. A limestone wall is the back-
drop for a pond, gardens and sculp-
ture of two children and a turtle
fountain.

the Garden of Remembrance, where
a wall of inscribed niches is tucked
into a serene, landscaped setting.

ing pathway leading visitors through
granite memorials to a column for
co-mingled ashes topped by a bronze
sphere.
placement in Roselawns mau-
soleum, where a bronze niche wall
said to be the largest in the world
depicts a lake scene from the
northwoods.
The niche doors on the columbari-
ums can be personalized with symbols
that reflect an individuals life.
In addition to the columbarium
options, the park-like cemetery has
plots for traditional burials and inter-
ment of ashes in the ground as well.
For headstones on burial graves,
we can customize them with images
that were especially significant; weve
done everything from a camper or a
motorcycle to an airplane. Another
popular option is engraving a photo
of the loved one on the stone.
Roselawn has been in operation
since 1902 and is open to visitors
year-round from sunrise to sunset.
The historic chapel is available to lot
owners for funerals and memorial ser-
vices at no charge.
We have no fences and operate
with the goal of benefiting the living
as well as the memory of the depart-
ed, Hudella adds.
People have the peace of mind of
knowing generations to come will
be able to visit their loved ones
remains.

I
ts not easy to watch your
loved ones suffer.
So after Dr. Josh Norine, D.C.
at Total Healthcare witnessed his
own grandmother, Betty Jean, bat-
tle crippling knee pain for months
on end, he decided he never want-
ed any of his patients have to go
through the same experience.
Betty Jean was an active senior
who had enjoyed deep sea fish-
ing and moose hunting before she
decided to have total knee replace-
ment surgery at age 81.
But she couldnt have imag-
ined the awful pain shed have
to endure for months after it was
over. My grandmother is an
incredibly strong lady, but the pain
she was experiencing after the sur-
gery was so intense, she cried, Dr.
Josh says.
Dr. Josh notes that for some
people, like his grandmother,
the pain of rehabilitation after
knee replacement surgery can
be much worse than the pain
theyd experienced prior to going
under the knife. Thats why he
decided to begin offering a new
nonsurgical treatment program at
Total Healthcare in Roseville for
patients whod like an alternative
to total knee replacement.
Over time, the natural fluid
that cushions the knee joints can
break down, resulting in horrible,
bone-on-bone pain and stiffness,
Dr. Josh explains. The safe, FDA-
approved treatment offered at
Total Healthcare involves a series
of natural injections to restore that
fluid.
The injections, taken from
rooster combs, have proven
effective in reducing knee pain.
Surgery isnt the only option, but
most people think it is, Dr. Josh
explains.
Some people might have already
tried this treatment with little
or no results, but Dr. Josh says
patients at Total Healthcare can be
nearly guaranteed pain relief, for
two reasons.
First, the staff at Total
Healthcare offers in-house physical
therapy designed to help patients
heal fast.
Second, Total Healthcare doc-
tors use special equipment that
allows them to see inside the
knee so they can ensure the shot
is injected into exactly the right
place.
The treatment program takes
only one or two months, and theres
no downtime required. Pain relief
can last for months after treatment,
sometimes even years, Dr. Josh says,
and Medicare and most insurance
companies often cover a large per-
centage of the cost.
Dr. Josh says he never wants
to see his patients suffer like his
grandmother did, and invites those
who suffer from knee pain and
stiffness to call Total Healthcare
to see how they might benefit
from this innovative treatment.
Many Total Healthcare patients
who undergo this treatment report
being able to dance with a spouse
once again or finally play with
their grandchildren for the first
time in years, Dr. Josh adds.
They can live again.
The staff at Total Healthcare wants to help you feel your best. In front are Chris
Santamaria, P.T. consultant, Dr. Josh Norine, D.C. and owner, Dan Delahunt D.C.,
and Holly Spannbaner, office manager. Behind them (right to left) are Flete
Gray, P.A.-C, Dr. Scott Arneson, D.C., Jeanne Martineau, insurance specialist and
Jennifer Norine, administrator.
Got knee pain? Total Healthcare can help
Here is what actual patients have to say about their successful treatment for knee
pain at Total Healthcare:
My left knee was so painful that I had trouble bend-
ing the knee to sit down or even to find a comfortable
sleeping position. I was limping badly when I walked,
and found it impossible to climb stairs. The shots made
all the difference in the world, making it possible to sit,
stand, walk, climb stairs and sleep comfortably. Thank
you so much for suggesting this treatment. I had no idea
such a thing was possible.
Linda
I have been able to do more work around the house
in the past few weeks than I have been all summer. My
stamina has gone through the roof and I have been able
to stand for longer periods of time without pain. As far
as Im concerned, this was a total success for me!

Kenneally comes by her
business, Midwest Data, by
both nature and nurture.
Kenneally purchased the bookkeep-
ing, accounting and payroll business
from her mother, Kay Weber, in 2005,
after Weber had operated it for 30 years.
Kenneally has also chalked up con-
siderable experience during her career,
including serving as chief financial offi-
cer for the St. Therese Senior Residence
in New Hope and traveling the country
as a financial software consultant for
businesses.
That expertise is now available to
businesses large and small, with the per-
sonal touch that makes the difference.
Our largest client employs about
700 people, and many have 10 to 15,
Kenneally says. We do everything from
payroll to general ledger to reconciling
banking and account statements and
year-end statements. But were flexible
enough that a client can call and ask
for a certain report and we can get it to
them the same day.
Even better, Midwest Data offers
very competitive rates for its services,
plus attention clients dont get from the
big operators.
My clients will tell you Im very
inquisitive about their businesses,
Kenneally says with a smile. Those
conversations often lead us to new ideas
and solutions tailored to their needs.
And, with seven employees and a
welcoming walk-in policy, Midwest
Datas clients are quickly on a first-
name basis -- with names that dont
change.
People whove worked with more
bureaucratic firms in the past love the
fact they can just work with one or two
people who know them and their busi-
ness, Kenneally says.
Currently, Kenneallys firm serves
a mix of construction businesses, res-
taurant franchisers, real-estate firms,
service businesses such as hair and nail
salons and many single proprietorships.
With Midwest Data, those owners and
managers can free up time and person-
nel to focus on their goals.
And business is looking good. What
I see is that every business we work with
is stronger and busier, Kenneally says.
They havent gotten back to pre-reces-
sion levels yet, but theres steady growth
to build on.
As they grow, those clients have the
confidence that while theyre doing
what they do best, Midwest Data is too.

n the large, airy move-
ment room of Minnesota
Waldorf School in
Maplewood, students can look out
the windows and see fields, trees,
sky and an occasional bald eagle
during their classes.
On a given day, eighth-graders
might be preparing for a show with
hula hoops and artistic movements on
high swings while others practice flips
on mats or fencing with batons.
Movement and games teacher Kurt
Curtin says the movement classes help
integrate childrens minds and bodies
by getting more synapses firing in the
brain. This can help with writing, read-
ing and math, he adds.
We nurture the whole child
through physical and artistic activities
as well as rigorous academics, explains
Lauri Pierce, enrollment coordinator
for the school. We cant address just
part of the child if we want healthy,
balanced children and enthusiastic,
life-long learners.
Minnesota Waldorf School is a 501
(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As an
independent, non-sectarian, Pre-K
through eighth grade school, it offers
before and after-school care, Parent-Tot
classes and needs-based tuition assis-
tance.
Tailored teaching
Waldorf students in first through
eighth grade generally stay with the
same teachers and classmates from
year to year, so teachers can learn each
childs strengths and weaknesses, and
guide them accordingly.
Theres no teaching to the test,
and the curriculum is not based on
textbooks or workbooks; children cre-
ate their own lesson books that include
compositions and colorful illustrations
related to lessons designed by the
teachers. The only standardized test
students take is the time-honored Iowa
Basic Skills Test. Waldorf students take
the assessment in seventh grade, and
they typically achieve the 10th grade
level or above, Pierce says.
The design and delivery of the
Waldorf curriculum is based upon chil-
drens developmental stages. Careful
consideration is given to nurturing stu-
dents social, emotional and inner soul
life. We educate the whole human
being! Pierce says.
High school teachers, as well as
college professors, appreciate and can
often spot a Waldorf graduate because
they are enthusiastic learners, skilled
critical thinkers, and interested in the
connections between subjects.
Isaac Maier, a Waldorf graduate and
a freshman at St. Olaf College who was
back helping Waldorf students prepare
for a movement show during his school
break, says attending Waldorf opened a
lot of opportunities for him, both aca-
demically and artistically.
For example, each year students are
exposed to different musical instru-
ments. Maier says that exposure helped
him develop a passion for the cello,
which he started playing in the third
grade and now plays in the renowned
St. Olaf orchestra.
Waldorf School prepared me better
for St. Olaf than my high school did,
he said, adding that a big difference is
student-teacher ratios. Waldorf classes
average about 20 students, giving each
the opportunity for individual atten-
tion.
The teachers are dedicated to help-
ing students grow academically and
socially, creating a deep sense of com-
munity that Maier says helped lay his
foundation for success.
I knew everyone had my back,
Maier adds.

oncordia Academy is
everything you want a
high school to be.
Concordia Academy affection-
ately nicknamed CA by teachers, stu-
dents and alumni offers Bible based
learning, small class sizes, strong bonds
between teachers and students, and
learning opportunities that go above
what is available at other schools.
Concordia Academy in Roseville
offers more college classes than any
other high school in the state of
Minnesota, says the Rev. Timothy
Berner, the schools principal. In fact,
CA students saved over $1.3 million in
college tuition last year by completing a
full year of college courses while still in
high school. Concordia Academys cur-
riculum is designed to prepare freshmen
and sophomores to take college classes
during their junior and senior years.
To further meet the needs of stu-
dents, CA offers a rigorous STEM2 (sci-
ence, technology, engineering, math,
medicine) program. The STEM2 curric-
ulum offers the equivalent of five years
of study in both math and science, and
gives students the opportunity to pursue
internships in these specialties.
In addition, Concordia Academy
is a fraction of the size of most public
high schools yet offers many of the same
opportunities found at larger schools,
including a wide array of sports, music,
drama and other extracurricular activi-
ties, Rev. Berner says. Over 90 percent
of Concordia Academy students partici-
pate in extra curricular activities.
CA prides itself on equal opportuni-
ties for all students. If your children
want to play a sport, they can play. If
they are interested in music, CA offers a
variety of choirs and bands.
One of Concordia Academys main
attributes is that its a Christ-centered
school. Teachers emphasize Christian-
based values, including service to others;
in turn students participate in service
projects during the year both on- and
off-campus. Recently, a visitor witnessed
a group of female students lingering in
the hallway, discussing a tragic event.
One student said, Thats terrible, we
should pray about that. The students
huddled together and prayed then and
there.
Thats the faith we cultivate here,
Rev. Berner explains.
Perhaps because of that faith, stu-
dents and teachers develop strong bonds
during a students four years at CA. The
teachers know them, Rev. Berner adds.
They dont just know their faces, they
know their names and their interests.
Many students stay in touch with their
CA teachers long after graduation.
While tuition is always a concern for
families, CA offers an array of scholar-
ships, grants and other financial aid
programs, such as volunteer opportuni-
ties through which families can work in
exchange for tuition assistance. Tuition
at CA is also considerably less than
many other local private schools. We
are committed to making Concordia
Academy affordable for every family,
Rev. Berner says.

For that reason, Ted committed to
using the highest quality parts and tires
to ensure when a car came to Brausens
Family Repair Centers to be fixed, it
stayed fixed.
It seems only right to Ted that
something you depend on and spend
as much time in should be maintained
at peak efficiency, especially in an
era when just filling up the gas tank
requires an investment in your vehicle.
We use only the top quality parts in
peoples cars, Ted says.
The quality commitment has paid
off for Brausens, both in terms of busi-
ness and also in its branches receiving
AAA Top Shop awards year after
year. Top Shop awards are given only
to facilities that score a 98 percent or
higher in customer satisfaction surveys.
Each AAA-approved entrant is evalu-
ated by its customers for business integ-
rity, professional standards, customer
service and community involvement.
Brausens also makes a point of hir-
ing Automotive Service Excellence-
certified master technicians. The ASE
certification is given to technicians
with years of experience and proven
skills with multiple automotive systems.
Three generations of Brausens
Brausens was founded in 1969 by
Teds father, Joe, with the first shop in
Arden Hills. When Joe later suffered a
heart attack, Ted was called on to man-
age the shop as a 17-year-old senior at
Mounds View High School. However
Ted learned quickly in his new role and
relied on his fathers motto: Do the
right thing.
The business has grown under Ted,
with a Roseville location added in
1984, a Blaine service center added
in 2003 and a second Blaine site
added last year. Blaine Tire and Auto
is a Goodyear Tire Center, while the
Arden Hills auto repair is a dealer of BF
Goodrich, Michelin and Uniroyal tires.
The family behind the business
has grown as well: Teds wife, Cheri
works in the office and handles the
companys bookkeeping, while their
son Jake works as a service manager at
the Arden Hills shop his grandfather
started more than 40 years ago.
Theyve also added a few others
to the family, albeit not all with the
Brausen name. Brausens is proud to
have several staff members with 20 or
more years of experience working for
the company, such as 26-year veteran
Mike Kelly, who manages the Roseville
location and Dave Isakson, who has
managed the Arden Hills location for
28 years.
By combining Kellys years of expe-
rience with Brausens state-of-the-art
computerized record keeping, Kelly has
an expanded view on each issue that
arises with a car and can help customers
prioritize repairs and provide written
estimates for future work.
Meeting the needs
Brausens now offers customers the
ability to schedule their appointments
on its website, www.brausenauto.com.
Customers can use the site to schedule
everything from oil changes to inten-
sive repairs on cars, trucks and SUVs
and receive a confirmed reservation
from a service technician.
While on the website, customers
who are curious about the staff who will
be working on their vehicles can find
information about the employees on
each location. Coupons for service are
available on the website as well.
Customers at the Arden Hills loca-
tion can also get a green clean for
their cars by using the state-of-the-art
touch free car wash. The equipment
uses specially designed equipment that
reduces water use while still providing a
thorough wash.
Brausens also recycles waste oil,
antifreeze, batteries, tires, lights and
other fluids at its repair centers.
Quality today and tomorrow
Staying ahead of the times while
still providing time-honored service to
customers are two of the highest priori-
ties for Brausens, whose customers now
span generations as well.
Ted knows that the same customers
will be coming back to him through
the remainder of his career and on into
Jakes after Teds retirement, and thats
just an added incentive to keep the
quality to the same high standards.
If friends of mine are going to be
driving with my parts, were going to
get the best ones money can buy, Ted
says.
Quality is key to
Brausens longtime success
F
or Ted Brausen, seeing
his name on the signs in
front of his auto shops
is a source of pride, but also a
reminder of the reputation he
stakes on every repair.

t Community Resource
Bank in Roseville, youll
find a dedicated team
ready to assist you with all of your
financial needs.
From the basics of true personal
service to the latest in electronic
banking convenience, the bank has
the resources and the desire to serve
individuals, families and businesses
in a manner that is rare in an indus-
try increasingly filled with large,
non-local banks.
First chartered in Northfield in
1878, Community Resource Bank
has expanded to include branches
in Roseville and Cannon Falls.
The Roseville office was originally
Roseville Community Bank. It was
acquired in 1999 by Community
Resource Bank to establish a pres-
ence in the metropolitan area. It has
proven to be a good growth strategy.

Personal service
According to Roseville Market
President Scott Leo, We have sus-
tained the high level of personal
service that our customers enjoyed
and have played a very active role
in serving the credit needs of local
businesses.
Like all Community Resource
Bank offices, the Roseville branch
provides both personal and business
banking, plus access to diversified
financial services. From checking
to savings and from loans to invest-
ments, its truly a one-stop shop.
All types of loans are available,
including home financing and refi-
nancing, construction, home equity,
vehicle, boat and RV, plus com-
mercial financing, such as inventory
financing, commercial real estate
and small-business lending.
Community Resource Bank in
Roseville also offers cash manage-
ment services including remote
deposit for businesses. By simply
scanning checks onsite, businesses
save valuable time that used to be
spent driving to the bank and know
their funds have been deposited
instantly and securely. Our products
are constantly being upgraded to stay
current with the latest developments
in technology and changes in cus-
tomer needs, adds Leo. New check-
ing products will be introduced in
mid-2013, and in the fall of 2012, we
began offering mobile banking. This
service allows full access to account
information and funds management
right from your cell phone.
Of course the Roseville office
also offers safe-deposit service, IRAs,
health savings accounts, CDs, money
market savings, and other traditional
depository services. A 24-hour ATM
is also on site.
We are part of the Money Pass
ATM network, allowing our custom-
ers free access at several ATM loca-
tions throughout the metro area,
Leo notes.
As one of the few local indepen-
dent banks in the area, Community
Resource Bank in Roseville cel-
ebrates the special connection with
its local customers with an annual
Community Appreciation Day each
summer where people are welcome
to enjoy food and friendly conversa-
tion. The bank also has a proud tra-
dition of donations and volunteerism
at local organizations.

Community Resource Bank auto-pay relationship. Available on Home Equity Lines of Credit of $15,000 or more with an
80% loan-to-value or less. Rate pertains to new loan requests or an increase of $15,000 or more to an existing CRB Home

would take 5 years to pay off a credit advance of $15,000 with an annual percentage rate of 3.49% for the first 12 months
and a variable interest rate of Prime plus .74% APR with a floor of 3.99% APR for the remaining 48 months. During that

When Betty first entered
Ingbretson Chiropractic,
P.A., a.k.a Advanced Injury
Rehabilitation in Roseville, she
had to use a quad cane to get
through the door. Having suffered
a stroke triggered by a cerebral
hemorrhage in 2010, Betty lost
full movement and found the
physical therapy could only do
so much to help her rebuild her
strength.
Now, in her fourth year after
the stroke, Betty is able to walk
again without her cane thanks to
the expertise of Dr. Fred Clary,
D.C., D.I.B.C.N. and the positive
people at the practice who sup-
ported her through the process.
Every person thats here, all
the patients, they comment on
you and encourage you. It gives
you confidence in the process of
recovery, Betty says. If I could
go to the highest mountain and
shout about this clinic, I would.
Dr. Heather Ingbretson, D.C.,
F.I.C.P.A, who specializes in fam-
ily wellness with pregnant women
and children, says the best part of
the job is seeing patients succeed.
Theres nothing better than
having someone come in here,
and I say, How does it feel? And
they say, It feels so much bet-
ter, Dr. Ingbretson says. There is
nothing better than making some-
one feel better.
The expert care extends beyond
physical adjustments with massage
therapy, psychological and reha-
bilitation services. Patients also get
support and education on improv-
ing their overall wellness.
We are health and wellness
coaches, and well help you eat
better, exercise better, get stron-
ger, emotionally healthier, Dr.
Ingbretson says. We do every-
thing. We have people come in
here broken down, and we help fix
them up, not just physically but
the whole person.
The team of doctors provides
extensive treatment options and
care for injuries, auto accidents,
headaches and chronic pain, learn-
ing and attention disorders, ver-
tigo, developmental disorders, head
injury, stroke, movement disorders
and spinal cord and nerve injuries.
As a chiropractic neurologist,
Dr. Clary is an educator in the
field who teaches classes and semi-
nars on his program called FACT,

optimizing energy by improving
breathing and walking efficiencies.

People are excited for spring,
and we are already getting lots of
spring things in new paints, tools,
lawnmowers, trimmers and other
lawn-care products, says store owner
Mike Johnson. This year well have
hanging baskets and pots of colorful,
assorted flowers as well.
Roseville Suburban Ace, a popular
local hardware store on the corner of
Lexington and Roselawn avenues, is
known for its helpful, friendly service.
The store is also widely known
for carrying top-name brands, and
has recently added to that lineup
with Craftsman tools, Clark and
Kensington paints and Scotts new
Snap lawn care system.
Aces affiliation with Craftsman
means customers can find a full line
of Craftsman wrenches, hand tools,
air tools, shop vacs and other power
equipment, with more available by
special order, says assistant manager
Dave Floberg.
The new Clark and Kensington
paint is darn good stuff, adds
Floberg, who explains all the paints in
the store are made by Ace and were
rated No. 1 in Consumer Reports.
With the primer already in the paint,
Clark and Kensington can save cus-
tomers elbow grease and time.
Scotts new Snap system promises
the greatest change for homeown-
ers, taking the guesswork out of lawn
care and the mess off their hands.
Everything needed for a season of
beautiful grass -- fertilizer, crabgrass
preventer and weed control -- is pack-
aged so it just clips into the Snap
lawn spreader. Theres no measuring,
pouring or handling chemicals.
With cutting-edge products
and years of expertise on staff, the
Suburban Ace crew sees customers
coming in from all over the area,
Floberg says. Employee Troy Williams
adds, People would rather come here
than the big-box stores because we
know what were talking about, weve
got what you need and we greet you
the minute you walk in the door.
Bob Simonet, who recently needed
a small part from Aces large selec-
tion of bolts for his sons snowmobile,
is one of Roseville Suburban Aces
repeat customers.
Its easier to go to Ace than any-
place else, and I like their courteous
service, he says.
Roseville Suburban Ace also has
bilingual employees on hand if a
Spanish-speaking customer needs
help.
Women are a large part of the
stores customer base, as they gain
confidence in their do-it-yourself abil-
ities. Williams says plumbing seems to
be a project more women are willing
to tackle, noting a widow who decid-
ed she could complete a repair herself
after store staff showed her what she
needed and walked her through the
process.
She was happy to get the job
done herself, Williams recalls. We
can often help people fix something
on their own. Theyre saving money
and adding skills.
Those turning their thoughts to
the outdoors greening up lawns,
planting flowers or maybe adding to
the decor can get a head start at
Ace.
With winter nearly over, weve
got a good start on spring and sum-
mer goods like grills, lawnmowers
and garden supplies, Floberg says.
Outdoor living furniture can now
be ordered from the Ace warehouse
through the stores colorful catalog,
and benches for the yard are already
in the store. The new Toro and
Craftsman lawnmowers will be in
soon, and hanging baskets and pots
of flowers will follow soon after.
Roseville Suburban Ace is also
offering in-house sharpening for
push lawnmower blades, as well as
a blade exchange program so that
residents can swap out their dull
lawnmower blade for a sharper one
without having to wait until the
next day for sharpening. Once swap-
pers get four punches on a blade-
exchange punch card theyll receive
a discount on their next lawnmower
repair.
Johnson suggests that people who
need lawnmowers repaired should
bring them in now, before the spring
rush starts.
He adds that once new folks stop
in, they usually become regulars.
We appreciate our customers and
strive to provide superior customer
service, Johnson says. We pride
ourselves on answering their ques-
tions and helping them get going on
their projects. And we want this to
be a fun and friendly place to shop
as well.
Roseville Suburban Ace gears up for spring
I
t doesnt matter what
kind of winter its been;
the first sunny Saturday
sends crowds of eager homeown-
ers and gardeners into Roseville
Suburban Ace Hardware.
Roseville Suburban Ace is a fixture at its location on the corner of Lexington and Roselawn avenues. Right, Roseville Suburban Ace employees (left to right) Luis
Saybe, assistant manager Dave Floberg, Taber Sparby and owner Mike Johnson.
Left, Roseville Suburban Ace is your one-stop shop when it comes to lawn care needs. Right, all the high quality paints in
the store are made by Ace. The brand was rated No. 1 in Consumer Reports.
We like to treat every family as if
they were our very own, says Richard
Purcell, who owns the business with his
wife Sharon.
The funeral home staff also works with
families to offer reasonable pricing for
their services and recently received a top
ranking from the Twin Cities Consumer
Checkbook for disclosing cost to clients
early in their planning process.
The very best doesnt have to cost
you more, in fact, it will probably cost you
less, Purcell says.
Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell also
topped the charts with superior ratings in
the Twin Cities Consumer Checkbook
among funeral homes throughout the
metro area in overall performance,
proper service, pleasantness of staff and
providing advice on service options and
costs.
The fact that the funeral home
received such positive ratings across the
board is a testament to Holcomb-Henry-
Boom-Purcell offering a full range of ser-
vices from trusted professionals, starting
with the family who founded the business
in 1916.
The funeral home opened that year in
St. Paul and a second mortuary was built
in Shoreview in 1993.
Purcell says the staff includes licensed
morticians, who graduated from the
University of Minnesota with degrees in
mortuary science. Theyre committed to
helping customers with their funeral-
planning needs at affordable prices.
Clients can choose to have memo-
rial services and receptions honoring
their loved ones at either location and
Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell will
coordinate burial or cremation services as
well, Purcell adds.
The staff can also oversee all the
arrangements for funeral services at any
church in the area.
The funeral home has the technology
to accommodate the wishes of clients
who would like to remember their loved
ones with music, photographs or a video
tribute.
Purcell says past services have featured
everything from Dixieland bands to harp
solos to highlight their clients personal
memories of their loved ones.
We try to accommodate any request
a family makes to reflect, honor and cel-
ebrate their loved ones life, Purcell says.
Personalization is a big part of that.
In response to consumer demands,
Purcell adds that families choosing crema-
tion may opt to have a funeral or memorial
service with a viewing of their loved ones
body present, then the cremation can take
place after the service. This can be done at
the funeral home or at the familys church.
He finds this option is becoming more
common, especially when clients know
out-of-town relatives and friends will be
attending the service, Purcell says.
Most importantly, all the options for
clients to consider are available at one
location to provide them with ease and
comfort in an already difficult situation.
Many families are choosing to have
receptions at the funeral home so that
people can socialize and enjoy a catered
meal after the funeral or memorial service.
A list of professional caterers is available
upon request.
We try to be a resource for families as
far as being a place where they can gather
options, and then of course the decision is
ultimately the families to decide what type
of service they want and then we make
sure its carried through, Purcell says.

Our arrangements come in all shapes and sizes.
We believe a service should be as individual as the
individual. Thats why we respect the choice of cremation
as much as the choice of traditional burial. Whichever
you choose, your options are far from limited. In fact, both
allow for the same variety of services. No matter what
you preferences, you can count on us for choices.

Its not that you dont care
about your vision. But if stay-
ing healthy means having your
eyes dilated and subjected to
air puff tests, you might think
youd be better off skipping the
checkup and waiting until you
notice a problem before going
to the eye doctor.
Thats a scenario thats
all too familiar to Dr. Robert
Kennedy and Dr. Daniel Myers
of Kennedy Eye Associates in
Roseville.
It happens all the time, Dr.
Myers says. Some people only
come to our office when they
are having problems with their
eyes.
The problem with this
approach, Dr. Myers explains,
is that by the time the symp-
toms become severe enough
for a person to seek help, some
degree of damage has already
been done damage that
could have been prevented if it
had been caught earlier.
But Dr. Myers says he also
understands that some people
have unpleasant memories
of visiting the eye doctor,
and thats why Kennedy Eye
Associates implements the lat-
est technology to ensure each
patients visit is as comfortable
and convenient as possible.
Some patients, for example,
find the prospect of dilation is
enough to postpone an appoint-
ment.
A lot of people have the
assumption that if you go to
the eye doctor, its going to
mess up your vision all day,
Dr. Myers says.
But by using Optimap imag-
ing equipment, the doctors at
Kennedy Eye Associates can
obtain the same information
by taking a digital image of
a patients retina avoiding
dilation altogether.
We stay as up-to-date with
the technology here as we can,
Dr. Myers explains.
High-tech,
individualized care
Not only does the use of
cutting-edge technology make
things more convenient for
patients, it allows the doctors to
accomplish more with their time.
Using equipment such as the cor-
neal topographer, spectral micro-
scope, Visual Evoked Potentials
gives the doctors at Kennedy Eye
Associates the ability to detect
serious problems such as glau-
coma and macular degeneration
before they take hold.
Now we can detect diseases
before symptoms are present,
Dr. Myers says.
Besides fancy gadgets, Dr.
Kennedy and Dr. Myers also
have the knowledge and experi-
ence to find the best solutions
for patients once a problem is
diagnosed. One of the many
services provided by Kennedy
Eye Associates is vision therapy,
which helps people correct the
root problems in disorders like
amblyopia (also known as lazy
eye.)
The doctors also help with
numerous other irritating issues
such as dry eye a common
problem during Minnesota win-
ters. Dr. Myers emphasizes the
importance of finding a fix thats
just right for the patient and the
severity, ranging from eye drops
and vitamin regimens to punctal
occlusion, which works by slow-
ing the eyes natural tear-drain-
ing process.
The staff at Kennedy Eye
Associates realizes the best way
to help people is to make the
experience as convenient and
individually suited as possible,
and that philosophy extends
from the doctors care all the
way to the glasses you walk out
with.
In the event that corrective
lenses are prescribed, Kennedy
Eye Associates carries a broad
selection of frames in the latest
styles and most popular brands,
to make sure you leave your
appointment seeing well and
looking good.
Technology allows for gentler exams

funds for the Alzheimers Association
throughout the year.
Since 2002, Lake Ridge has also
participated in Rosefest in June by
hosting a community picnic with a
petting zoo, musical entertainment,
barbecue, games, popcorn cart, bal-
loons for the kids and a visit from the
Roseville Fire Department.
These events really help bring in
the community, Director of Nursing
Tina Hedalen says. It lets them
know were here.

No Money Down And
No Interest For One Full Year!
John Kopas and business partner
Tom Link have been spreading the
word, and now the million-plus
people who use consumer reviews on
Angies List also know Abbey Carpet
is tops.
The Super Service Award
Angies List bestowed upon Abbey
Carpet shows that its one of only 5
percent of companies rated nation-
wide that receives top marks from
customers.
This isnt anything we could
have applied for or pursued, Kopas
says. This all came from our cus-
tomers.
The Angies List rating follows
another from the nonprofit organiza-
tion Consumers Checkbook, which
also compiles customer reviews. In
Checkbooks listing, Abbey Carpet
in Mounds View posts a solid 100
percent satisfaction rate in overall
service compared to a metro-wide
average rating of 53 percent.
What difference does Abbeys
consulting expertise and trained
installation crew make?
You can find the same carpet
somewhere else, but the installation
is everything, Kopas says.
Hes backed up by Consumers
Checkbook, which warns homeown-
ers to check installers work for
wrinkles or ripples, gaps between
wall and carpet edge, unusually
conspicuous seams, irregular seams,
inconsistent shaping of carpet on
steps as well as glue stains and dam-
age to walls.
Poorly installed flooring can be
even worse and more expensive for
another contractor to correct. Wood
planks that shrink and gap, substan-
dard underlayment, cracking ceramic
and sloppy grout are just the begin-
ning.
People think theyre getting
a deal at big-box stores, but they
often regret having to live with the
results, Kopas says.
Although people may be able
to find their carpet and flooring
choice somewhere other than Kopas
store, it is hard to imagine them
doing so without a couple of weeks
and several tanks of gas. Abbeys
10,000-square-foot space showcases
nearly 50 carpet brands, over 20
wood-flooring brands and myriad
choices in tile, ceramic and stone
floors. From cork to teak wood,
plush shag to commercial carpet
and marble to slate, you can find
just what youre looking for. Abbey
Carpet also carries area rugs and
window treatments, so customers can
see for themselves theyve chosen
the perfect match.
And for those who dont arrive
with an idea of what kind of carpet
they desire, Abbey Carpet also pro-
vides experienced interior designers
who will visit your home. Its hard
sometimes for customers to decide,
Kopas states. With the thousands of
homes weve worked in, our design-
ers know what looks good and can
give customers that confidence.
Selection, quality and the willing-
ness to stand behind their work - its
all at Abbey Carpet.

Award-winning retailer
(ask us for details)
Longtime owner John Kopas
purchased his Abbey Carpet franchise
in 1973 and opened up shop in New
Brightons Brighton Village Shopping
Center. He operated out of New
Brighton for 30 years before moving
the business to Mounds View. Kopas
and business partner Tom Link,
who also has decades of experience,
continue to provide the same
excellent customer service.
At a corporate event in Anaheim,
Calif., Kopas was recently awarded
Abbey Carpet and Floor's prestigious
Lifetime Achievement Award the
only one ever given out.
Link says he was delighted when
Kopas received the award. It was
wonderful and he deserved it, Link
says. John is like a second father to
me.
