INSTRUCTIONS
The Deck Log Book is an important document in all accident enquiries and all entries must therefore be made with scrupulous accuracy. All entries are to be made in black ink and all columns within the navigational section must be completed without fail. Mistakes must be crossed through once, the correct entry made and the alteration initialled. Mistakes in entries, however trivial, must on no account be rubbed or scratched out. The Master and Chief Officer must sign the log book daily, the Officer of the Watch must sign at the end of each watch period after completing that watch entries. Only abbreviations detailed on the inside back page of this log book may be used in the completion of the log book. When completed, this log book must on no account be destroyed, but retained safely on board for the life of the vessel, unless called for by BP Shipping Limited Head Office.
