03-13-13 TO: FM : All Soap Box Derby Racers Pikes Peak Soap Box Derby June 2 = Practice Day and Rally Race June 8 = Final Inspection June 9 = Race Day

SUBJ: 2013 Races Hi Derby Racers ! Hope your year has gone well and that you plan to race your car again in 2013. This memo is to give you information about this years race and your registration. All three divisions ( Masters, Super Stock and Stock) will compete again this year. Changes: A few changes have been made to the rules so please read them carefully. The changes appear as underlined text. If you are confident your car has been built exactly according to specifications for cars in your division, you may come to final inspection with the shell on. Otherwise, come with 4 screws holding the shell on so it can be removed. Rally Race: The biggest change is that we will run a rally race at the same time as your practice runs. The rally will follow the same double elimination format as our regular local race. Inspection will be done before the race. You may leave your shell on; just come ready to race. Have your weights in place; no more that 15# tail heavy. We will use a 2-4-2 wheel swap method. At station 1, you will exchange a front wheel and a back wheel. After phase 1 at station 2, you will replace those wheels and swap the other 2. At the end of the heat you will swap back the 2 you last exchanged. Those who want only to run the practice runs will be interspersed with the rally racers. Those drivers will only get 2 runs. You are encouraged to race in the rally as this will give you a minimum of 4 runs and will let you compete against other cars. Good training for you ! VIP Status: This year we are starting a program to recognize those of you who become really involved with the derby and who build the perfect car. The requirements are that you attend at least one clinic, that you raise $25 for the derby and that your car passes final inspection with no errors. For this, you will receive a special decal to place on your car, extra goodies in your goody bag, recognition at the awards ceremony and a special medallion commemorating this achievement. Registration: We will require one registration form for the local race and one for the rally. They are enclosed. Please return them to me with your entry fees by mail. For the local race, June 9, please go to the derby website, ppsbd.com, and fill out the driver history form. E-mail this to me using the email address on the site info@ppsbd.com. This form is not needed for the rally. Registration must be complete by May 18. Clinics: Three clinics will be offered April 27, May 11 and May 25 . All will start at 10 am and will be held at Pikes Peak Acura, 655 Automotive Drive, Colorado Springs. The last one will be a special tuning clinic addressing weight, camber and toe. Bring your car to Acura for this one. Meet in the service bay area. Attendance of at least one clinic is required for you to obtain VIP status. Locations / Times: We will use the same race site as last year .. 400 block of East Costilla Street. Pre-inspection, practice and Rally Race on June 2 will be at the top of the hill starting at 8am. Drivers not participating in the rally should be there no later than 9:30am. Final inspection is at the bottom of the hill June 8 starting at 9am and finishing before noon. On

race day, June 9, report to top-side no later than 7:20 am. Drivers meeting will be at 7:30 am. The race will start at 8:00 am.

Awards: In rally racing more awards are typically given. For this, our first rally, we will award trophies to places 1-5 in Masters, 1-8 in both Super Stock and Stock if we have enough participants. In addition, place winners receive points toward the rally finals in Akron. All others receive one point for participating. The top places in the Local Race receive nice trophies and everybody else gets a participation trophy. Awards are given in each division for Best Appearance and for Fastest Heat. Winners of each division get an expense paid trip to Akron, Ohio to compete in the All American Soap Box Derby, July 27. Place winners in the All American race receive scholarships, huge trophies and lots of other goodies and clothing items plus national recognition. We hope you all will race again this year; however, if you do not plan to race, please let me know very soon as the number of slots is limited (24 in S and SS, 8 in M). You can call .. 488-8808 or e-mail me at derbyguy@comcast.net. Break out your racer and start getting it tuned up for the Big Show ! Please call if you have any questions.
