Bird Block
Planning
Make up a color combination for your bird in any way that pleases you. Our directions are for foundation (paper) piecing. Tack a tiny button or medium-size bead to bird to create an eye (photos B and C). (Not recommended if project is intended for young children.)
Cutting Instructions
(cut in order listed) = cut in half diagonally Fabric for bird wing 1 square 3I x 3I (for Foundation Master A, area 1) Fabric for bird body 1 strip 1I x 3I (A5) 1 square 2G x 2G (A2, A4) Blue texture (sky) 1 square 4H x 4H (A3) 1 square 3 x 3 (C1) 1 square 2I x 2I (C5) 1 strip 1I x 3I (B1) 1 square 1I x 1I (A6) 1 strip 1H x 5H 1 strip 1G x 2I (C3) Orange texture (beak) 1 square 1I x 1I (B2) Light brown plaid (legs) 2 strips 1 x 2I (C2, C4)
Use embroidery floss, yarn, or other fiber to stitch a French knot for birds eye (photos D, E, F, G and H).

Sew blue 1H x 5H strip to top of bird to make block (Diagram II). Carefully remove paper from back of block.
