1. Mrs.Angela Dechitan, a principal in Bayog National High School reminds her teachers to always make sure that the school is neat and clean. She always conducts beautification projects and inspects daily the classroom of teachers to see if it is clean. She said that a clean surrounding is helpful for students to achieve good marks and for the school to be recognized. Is the action and reason of Mrs. Dechitan correct? Answer: NO. Explanation: As stated in the nature of instructional leadership: The concept of an instructional leadership is the notion that learning should be given top priority. Instructional leader makes instructional quality the top priority of the school to bring the vision to realization. The major function of the school administrator is to improve pupils academic performance therefore she should give emphasis on the improvement of the pupils learning and not on the beautification of the school. 2. Principal Aguinaldo was given an invitation for the student's project culminating activity the next day. However, when the day came he prefered to stay in his office and let his assistant principal attend the said event. Was the action of Principal Aguinaldo correct? Answer: NO. Explanation: One of the Dimensions of Instructional Leadership is developing school climate wherein a principal is expected to maintain high visibility. One way in doing so is by attending or participating in school activities. Thus, he should have graced the event. 3. Teacher Grace and other teachers in Sta. Maria Elementary School describes their principal this way: She listens to our classroom and instructional problems, and then responds in a way that makes us really think about things. She asks questions to get us to understand all aspects of the problem and then gives us stories of her own experiences. Based on the teachers description of their principal, is the principal conducting her role as a supervisor? Answer: YES. Explanation: Principals as supervisors are expected to share ideas, procedures and materials in order to evaluate and develop the curriculum.They are also expected to offer and accept new ideas. They should also accept the teacher as an equal who is charged with specific responsibilities. Enlist the cooperative effort of the entire staff in studying the schools educational problems. 4. Teachers in Mayondon Elementary School reported that their principal gave praise that focused on specific and concrete teaching behaviors: Their principal wrote a note at the bottom of the evaluation form that said, ``You are a credit to the teaching profession''. friendly note with praise or commendation. Giving praise significantly affected teacher motivation, selfesteem, and efficacy. It also fostered teacher reflective behavior, including reinforcement of effective teaching strategies, risk taking, and innovation/creativity. 5. Teachers in Batong Malake National High School are given a lot of opportunities to learn new strategies and new learning techniques through their staff development. All teacher are given opportunities to attend seminar, workshops that are beneficial in their professional growth and development. Is this practice correct? Answer: YES Explanation: Effective principals should provide staff development opportunities which addressed emergent needs for teachers. These needs include academic, personal, social, intellectual and career objectives that are essential to the goals of students or for the purpose of instructional development. 6. Mr. Manny Tandang, the principal of Sta Elena High School discourages teacher involvement. They are not allowed to discuss their current state of affairs, individual student and staff needs, new programs (pros and cons), how to implement change if change is necessary, and planning for parent/community involvement on their own. He wants that big meetings should always be conducted and he is in-charged. Is the principal correct? Answer: NO Explanation: One way of providing successful faculty meetings, is to encourage teacher involvement. Teachers should be involved in planning a meeting. Meetings in which teachers take an active part are more beneficial and interesting for all concerned. Teachers should be be allowed to discuss and be part of the meeting. This participation would help create staff meetings that reflect the efforts of a dynamic, harmonious working group. True discussions, in which the opinions of the staff memebers are as respected as are those of the principal, add a feeling of purpose, mutual respect, participation, and accomplishment for all involved. 7. Teacher Hannah is new in the school. The principal assigned her to Teacher Grace, a Senior teacher to be her mentor. Every time there is a new teacher in school, it is her practice to assign a senior teacher to be a mentor of the new teacher. Is the practice of the Principal good? Answer: YES. Explanation: The supervising principal must realize that it is important to recognize and utilize the worth of each teacher, including the older teacher. The principal's practice insures that the older teacher does not lose a sense of leadership and importance. Encouraging beginning teachers to seek the advice of the more experienced teacher in the staff is one way of recognizing the worth of the senior teacher. 8. Principal Ortega is new to the school. One day he went to one of the teacher's classroom unannounced, thinking it was the best way to caught the teachers off-guard. The teacher was not happy was uneasy

with what he did but still allowed him to enter the room. Was the action of Principal Ortega correct? Answer: NO Explanation: In the mechanics of observation, a principal may have unscheduled visits provided that he has already established rapport with the teacher. But in the case of Mr. Ortega, he is new and has not yet established good working relationship with his teachers. He could feel free to make unscheduled visits if he has demonstrated a sincere interest in what happens within the classroom. In doing so, the teacher will welcome his presence and look forward to a conference later in the day. 9. Mrs. Fronda, the principal of Lopez National High School created a Team Teaching Plan. It is composed of students, teachers, and other experts. She believes that this method will help improve methods and techniques of instruction. Is she justified? Answer: YES. Explanation: In essence, a team is an instructional unit within a school Allowing students, faculty and individual experts to group together to form a team that will improve the techniques of instruction is a positive attitude of a pricipal. She has acknowledge the importance of staff utilization and the contributions of the members for the improvement of the instruction. She has in mind that group effort are better than individuals in problem solving and in quality of performance. 10. The principal of St. Therese Elementary School is particular in the teacher's productivity. She implemented a no cellphone policy during class hours because she observed that teachers are quite busy with texting and receiving calls even during class hours. Was the policy of the principal correct? Answer: Yes. Explanation: Cellphones nowadays are necessity, however it should be used at the right time and the right place. If the productivity of the teachers has been hindered because of such then it is justifiable that the no cellphone policy during class hours is implemented in the school. Removing the hindrance is one way of increasing productivity and performance of the teacher.
