Choice of luminaires designed for high, medium and low bay applications.

Luminaires, reflectors and light distributions for enqineered lightin6 sobtions.

Choice of light dislributions Prismpack ll luminaires provide unequalled control ot light. Their Coefficients of Utilization are as high as .96 because the Holophanedesigned prismatic glass reflectors are matched to the specilic lamp.

The ballast will achieve rated life at elevated temperatures (up to 55'C) and even longer life at normal operating

temperatures.

Suggested mainlenance laclors

For Holophane ventilated prismatic glass reflectors in clean, moderate or

Consequently, the maintenance curve can be used with confidence to determine accurate footcandle data, not only when the reflector is new, but after many years of use. Ease of maintenance
The self-cleaning chimney action of Prismpack ll creates a steady stream of air through the reflector, carrying dirt particles out the top. Unlike metal rellector surfaces. the smooth glass reflector resists dirt and dust build-up. Lower dirt depreciation and fewer luminaire cleanings mean more light at lower operating cosls. When cleaning
is required, a simple wiping of the smooth inner surface of the glass ref lector will restore eff iciency.

lectors originally designed for phosphor-coated mercury lamps. When such reflectors are used with these newer compact arc sources, the result is often poor light distribution and consequent lack of footcandle uniformity. This imprecise control may also cause direct and reflected glare.
Since these newer lamps are selected because oJ their greater efficacy and since small sources require more precise optical control in order to realize their potentially greater utilization of light- it is uneconomical

to use them in luminaires not designed to take maximum advantage ot this potential. Holophane prismatic glass ref lectors provide excellent lamp cut-off and high-angle brightness control. They precisely redirect this intense light away from the arc tube, so that lamp life is not affected.
A choice of light distribution patterns

L4aintenance curves for other types of industrial reflectors are not shown for lhese reasons: the normal depreciation of a luminaire is based on the contour of the reflector, size and position of openings in the reflector, plus the type

N4etal halide lamps give excellent color rendition. Thus, they should be considered whenever color lidelity is important. Where color is not critical, you can take advantage of the even higher lumen output of high pressure solrum lamps. No matter which lamp is used, Holophane crystalclear prismatic glass reJlectors will not alter source color.

Application versatility
Prismpack ll is excellent for a variety of installations. In industrial applications it is idealfor machine shops, inspection areas, assembly lines, prod uction areas, warehouses, foundries and hangars. ln commmercial areas. il is unexcelled lor exposition halls, sports arenas decorative shades - and, with for terminals, stores and lobbies.

design requirement. Ru99ed conslruction The thermal-shock resistant Enduralr! glass reflector will not pil or corrode in normal industrial use. It is provided wiih a sealed-on metal cover for mechanical support and to keep the external reflecting prisms clean. The reflector is made to last, even under the most adverse environmental cond itions.

Assuminq 10070 restoration of the ref lector assembly when the unit is cleaned, may be invalid. Care must be exercised when using maintenance factors. The Holophane prismatic glass reflector is not subject to any permanent deterioration as are treated metal reflectors in normal industrial environments.

Warehouse Prismpack II cuts warehouse glareand speeds up identification of labels, tags and stencilmarkings.

Warehouse Prismpack ll overcomes the two types ol glare caused by conventional f luorescenl luminaires.

Direct glare
This results from large areas of unshielded fluorescent units in the lield of view of a worker walking or driving down the aisle. His eyes must constantly readjust as he turns from this area of high brightness to the darker stack area, otten resulting in eye fatigue and errors in identilication.

Easy vertical lootcandle calculations.

Rellecled glare
This type of glare reduces contrast, making it diff icult to read markings on cartons and tags. Sometimes called

'veiling reflections." reflected glare

rs

caused by light redirected into the eyes

of the worker alter striking the carton surface.

When rows of fluorescent units are used to light a warehouse aisle. veiling

reflections appear as a " luminous veil,"

several feet high, running along the entire length of the stacks.

0123 o
Batio of distance along stacks to haLfisle width

This chart shows lines of equal initial Jootcandles (fc) on the vertical stack surface produced by a single luminaire. Chart is based on a 10 ft. wide aisle; grid lines are ratios of distance along aisles, or below luminaire, to the half-aisle width. Curve is identical on left side oJ vertical "0" line. Warehouse Prismpack ll overcomes direct glare in two ways. First, its unique reflector'refractor optical train the major minimizes high-angle light by directing source of direct glare - centerline and light away trom the aisle onto the stacks (see candlepower curve). ln addition, the prismatic glass refractor provides maximum lamp
sh ield

Example: a No. 930 produces I fc at a point 10 tt. below (ratio-2) and 5 ft. along (ratio-1) stack.

Contributions from other luminarres

rn

Warehouse Prismpack ll luminaire virtually eliminates this reflected glare by directing light at oblique angles away from the worker's line of sight. The Jew remaining reflections are confined to an extremely narrow zone, visible only when viewed from directly beneath a luminaire.

the aisle must also be calculated and added to the above. Actual fc will be higher due to light reflectance from opposite stack.
lf aisle width is other than 10 ft., grid lines represent the ratio of actual half-aisle width. Values read from the chart must then be multiplied by
10 '?to obtain actual aisle width ) actual light level. For convenience, multipliers lor some common aisle widths are given below.

When required, Holophane Prismpack ll luminaires will be supplied with Prismatect! treatment. This is a unique thermosetting acrylic coating, applied over a carefully pretreated and epoxy-primed substrate, to form a hard protective surJace that will eliminate deterioration from most chemical-laden atmospheres.
The prismatic glass is not subject to general deterioration (unless exposed to a fluorine atmosphere) and, therefore, needs no coating. All joints are sealed and the socket is gasketed to prevent possible damage lo interior parts. l\y'etal parts which are not feasible to protect are fabricated of stainless steel. When luminaire is
