Life of Jesus Prophecies Fulfilled

Matthews Gospel (1st of 2)

His Birth Behold a virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which translated means, God with Us (Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 7:14) And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah . . . for out of you shall come forth a ruler who will be the shepherd of My people Israel (Matthew 2:6, Micah 5:2) His Earthly Ministry John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight (Matthew 3:3, Isaiah 40:3 ) Jesus announces His ministry in the synagogue: The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor (Luke 4:18-19, Isaiah 61:1-2) Jesus acts of healing: He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill (Matthew 8:16-17); Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4) Confronting hardness of heart: You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving; for this peoples heart has become calloused . . . they have closed their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them (Mat 13:14-15, Isaiah 6:9-10) Confronting hypocrisy: You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you: these people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me; they worship Me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men (Matthew 15:8-9, Isaiah 29:13) His Entry into Jerusalem This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: Say to the Daughter of Zion, See your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey (Mat 21:4 -5, Zec 9:9) The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! (Matthew 21:9, Psalm 118:26) His Rejection and Betrayal Jesus foretells the Jewish rejection: Did you never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builders rejected, this became the chief cornerstone? (Matthew 21:42, Psalm 118:22) He says to the disciples: This very night you will all fall away on account of Me, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered (Mat 26:31, Zec 13:7) The price for betrayal: And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on Him by the people of Israel, and they used them to buy the potters field (Mat 27:9-10, Zec 11:12-13)
