Questions 36 40 Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow. Baca petikan di bawah dan jawab soalan-soalan berikut. Rivers starts as small streams. They get bigger as they collect more water from the land they flow through. Rivers shape the land they flow over. If rivers flow fast, they make deep river beds. The water in rivers comes from rain or melted snow. Hydro-electric power stations are built on large rivers. Inside their dams, the water from the river moves the engine that makes electricity. Waterfalls are formed when a river flows over a cliff. Sometimes a deep pool is made under the waterfall. River water carries with it lots of sand and rock. Larger and heavier rocks are carried along on the river bed. Smaller and lighter things are carried on the top. A river flows slowly as it reaches the sea. Slow water cannot carry the pieces of sand and rock that float in the water. When the river meets the sea, it drops the heavy things it carries forming little bits of land. This is called a delta. A canal is different from a river. Its sides are straight. Canals are built to carry ships over land if there is no suitable river. Abstract from Road To English Workbook Year 6 (Gabungan Majlis Guru Besar Malaysia) 36 Where does river water come from? 40 Which of the following statement is not true? A B C D Electricity can be made from river water. Canals are man-made and have straight sides. When a river flows over a cliff, waterfalls are formed. Rivers start as small dams.

Lack of it makes them tired and angry. They also lose their appetite and their studies will be affected. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 require 11 to 12 hours of sleep. However, children who hang on to their toys while sleeping need more sleep because this uncomfortable position causes them to get less sleep. Therefore, parents should enforce regular nap times to ensure children have enough sleep. Children between the ages of 6 and 8 need 10 to 11 hours of sleep. As they grow they need fewer hours of sleep. Children are easily distracted or are over excited. They, therefore need more sleep. Too much TV, reading at bedtime or playing computer games can affect the number of hours they sleep. Therefore, children should be discouraged from watching TV, playing games or reading at bedtime. Children between the ages of 9 to 12 need about 9 to 10 hours of sleep. However, they may sleep less if they stay up to finish their homework or study for examinations. CONCLUSION
The UPSR English Language paper is really testing the proficiency level of pupils

in the language, whereby those with richer vocabulary will benefit more than those with poor or limited vocabulary. One way to enhance the level of vocabulary is to carry out a reading project. Only by reading extensively (effectively with understanding) will pupils indirectly enrich their vocabulary and proficiency in the language. Pupils will be more interested in learning and using the language if it is fun. Therefore, teachers should also include songs, poems, riddles, puzzles, choruses and stories in their lessons. Extensive role-play/simple sketch/pair or group work will also help pupils in the mastery of sentence structure, vocabulary and proficiency in the language.
