Marking other students work Through the window Material appropriate for the target audience and task

This group gave their film a 15 certificate and targeted it towards teenagers/young adults/students. Aiming it towards the aspirers category in psychographics because this generation of young people are very interested in scary movies. I would agree with this rating as from this opening it builds up a scary suspense, making you want to continue to watch the rest of the film. This is an accurate rating as the age group above 15 years is the most likely to go to watch this thriller film. Using titles appropriately according to institutional conventions Title showing their production company name adding to the opening of the Thriller to give it a professional look.

Title of the thriller, editing skills effectively used here. Flickering of the words combined with the background image and the music creates a scary feel, therefore very appropriate choices.

Using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set This is an example of excellent editing; the film has a black and white effect. And the two girls playing have been editing to create the effect of ghosts. Combining these factors with creepy music reflects well with the conventions of a thriller.

Shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene

Using these screenshots as examples, it is clear that this group used a variety of shots whilst filming and used effective costume and makeup to fit in with the conventions of their thriller.

Using editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions and other effects

Editing is at a high level; effective choices of shot transitions are used so that the film flows displaying good continuity editing. Plus editing such as the faded figures of the girls shows that the film will involve ghost, therefore giving the audience a taster of what the filming will be about and intrigue them to want to continue watching it; this is the purpose of a successful film opening.

Therefore this Thriller opening fits well to all the required points of the marking criteria to be rewarded with the top marks band being 48-60. With the groups work displaying no negative points and producing a piece of work at a high level I would grade this Thriller opening with a mark of 60.
