Understandings State Standards: ELACC9-10RL2: Determine a theme or central idea of text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text. ELACC9-10W6: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technologys capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically. ELACC9-10SL2: Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source. ELACC9-10SL5: Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.

AASL Standards:

Understandings: Utilizing The Count of Monte Cristo as a basis, students will explore the theme of revenge as a reoccurring premise in literature, film, art, and music. Lesson Objectives: 1) Students will conduct research, searching for instances of revenge in literature, film, art, and music. 2) Students will select appropriate examples in the format of multimedia and utilize web 2.0 to illustrate those examples. 3) Students will effectively present their finding to the class.

Essential Questions Why is revenge such a prevalent theme? How has the theme of revenge transcended through time?

Knowledge & Skill Students will build on knowledge of theme attained from reading The Count of Monte Cristo. Students will utilize research and technology skills to select examples and create presentations.

Stage 2: Assessment Evidence


Student presentations will be accessed according to the rubric. (Attachment #2) Performance Task Summary Rubric Titles 1.) Students will conduct research and locate valid examples of revenge Revenge Presentation Rubric in literature, film, art, and music.

2.) Students will create a Prezi Presentation to illustrate findings 3.) Students will present findings in class Other Evidence, Summarized Students will use the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, as the foundation for their research on revenge.

Stage 3: Learning Activities


Day 1-Students will be instructed by the Media Specialist on how to create a presentation using Prezi. Day 2 1.)Begin with a short clip from the ABC television show Revenge. Explain that this show is loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo. 2.) Students will be given attachment #1 below that contains the web address for the webquest on the theme of revenge. 3.) We will go through the webquest briefly together. All assignment details are contained within the webquest. 4.) Students will conduct research to locate multimedia examples from literature, film, art, and music that illustrate revenge as a recurring theme. 5.) Students will begin creating their Prezi presentation. Day 3 Students will continue their research. Day 4 Student Presentations Day 5 Student Presentations
