Modern units require a good understanding of many different technologies. Use of a well field adds a level of complexity that demands more than a passing knowledge of heat pump principles for successful troubleshooting. The refrigerant circuit is the “heart” of a water-source heat pump and perhaps the most sensitive part of an installation. Virtually any problem with the well field can impact the refrigeration, cycle and lead to a misdiagnosis. It is easy to condemn a component or the refrigerant charge mistakenly when the problem actually is in the water circuit. ‘As with an air-to-air heat pump system, the air side of a water-source heat pump application must be capable of delivering the required air volume to the conditioned space. Failure to do so results in inadequate heating and/or cooling, ‘Your customer will be uncomfortable and unhappy. Poor air flow also can lead to condemning a good component or a proper refrigerant charge. You must know when and how to adjust the air volume to provide maximum comfort and peak system performance. Exchanging heat with the earth is the purpose of a water-source heat pump. The ability to diagnose water-side problems is as important as the ability to diagnose 700208
