(Make the items a little bigger and they will have a larger price tag) 4. Each student will receive 2 dollars a day for coming to school and participating in class. This is your job, just like your parents have jobs. 5. Show the price of each item. (Have the price of the new items range from 6-12 dollars depending on the item) 6. Ask the students to think of ways that they are going to be able to buy one of the new items. 7. Write the ideas on the board. (Save, share money with another student, see if you can earn more money by doing extra work in the class)

8. Have the students make a T chart of the items that they would like to purchase and how much they will need to make the purchase. 9. Have the students figure out how long it will take to purchase the item. 10. Have the students write at the bottom of their worksheet how long it will take them to save the money to buy the item. 11. Let the students know that the items that they purchased yesterday are still available at their regular prices. 12. Discuss reasons for saving. 13. List reasons on the board. 14. What will happen if you decide to purchase a lower priced item today? 15. Discuss the consequences of spending their money today on lower prices items. o Will you have enough to purchase the larger item that you wanted?

16. Tell the students that they will have to make a decision, if they want to save their money for a large item or spend their money now on a small item. 17. Ask the students if you spend your money now how will that change your purchase of the large item? 18. Open the store and let students purchase items today if they would like. 19. CLOSURE: Today we learned reasons why we save money. We will have the store open on Fun Friday until the end of the year. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The students will know reasons why people save money. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will assess the students understanding of this concept through their T chart. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think teaching the concept of saving will be the easiest part of this lesson because I think that many of the students will already have real world experiences with this concept. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

I think getting them to save money will be the most challenging part of this lesson. I think that children like instant gratification. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will follow this lesson by teaching tomorrow about different types of consumer businesses. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? If a student does not understand this concept I will re-teach this concept to them. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I may need to add other options for earning money during the rest of the year. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I did not find this lesson plan difficult to write because it fits with yesterdays lesson.
