Lesson Plan Unit Title: Geography Lesson Title: Geography online exploration Learning Outcomes/ learning targets Students

s can identify some of the different characteristics of geography. Students understand that geography is the study of both the physical land, and its inhabitants. Standards Interpret how places and regions serve as meaningful symbols for individuals and societies. Explain how cultural differences and perspectives sometimes result in conflicts in the modern world. Understand that regions help us the Earth as an integrated system of places and features organized by such principles as landform types, political units, economic patterns and cultural groups. Bell Ringer: What is a combination of two or more companies to form a single business? - a merger. Hook/Anticipatory set: Have discussed the economic system in the US and how the economy and business run. Shifting gears to look at these aspects and more in other countries. What do you think of when you hear the word geography? (the word will be on the smart board. o Countries o Continents These will be written in under the word. Introduce how geography is more than just these few aspects. Instruction: Definition of Geography will be put on the smart board. After reading definition ask now what they think some aspects of geography might be. o People o Cultures o History o Physical features o Natural resources o Etc. Discuss how these aspects are what we are going to make ourselves familiar with today by examining these characteristics in a given country. Guided Practice Students will be divided in to 5 to 6 groups. Each group will be assigned a country Each student will be assigned some number of the characteristics to research Each student will be given a worksheet with the website on the top. We will go to the media center and they will research their two or three questions. They will then come together as a group and each student will be responsible for telling the group what they found about their question. If time allows each group will present a little about their country, each student will present one piece of information they researched. Formative Assessment: While each group is meeting I will circulate listening to their responses and asking questions to make them explain more in depth about their country. They will turn their worksheets in for a grade at the end of class. Resources, media, technology: Using the smart board Having students use the internet to find their answers.
