Have you wondered what tools digital photographers use to

process great photographs, how special effects are added, text and
multi-images composed? Here you will be introduced to the popular
Adobe PhotoShop Elements image management and editing
software.

Lecture, discussion and demonstration will show “how to” crop,

resize, correct color and exposure, add and remove picture
elements, retouch faces, restore old photographs, add text, create
special effects and other photo manipulations.

You are encouraged to bring your “problem” photos to class for

enhancement as part of the class demonstrations.

This is a group demonstration about using the more common

PhotoShop Elements’ tools. Mastering these tools is a skill

Making camera exposures doesn’t necessarily “make photographs”

that communicate. Knowing the difference is like distinguishing
between visual babbling and visual communication. Become aware
of the message your photographs carry and for whom those
messages are intended?

This workshop is about visual communication; about making

photographs that carry an intended message; about raising your
level of visual awareness as a photographer; and about, as a
viewer of photographs, how a visual statement reflects the creators
intent and informs viewers. This workshop asks, “how do our
photographs communicate and what do they have to say and to
who?”

SESSION ONE: We will discuss your favorite images considering

the message they seem to communicate. We will explore the value
of “creative feedback” and view your photos as a communication
tool.
(Bring 4 – 6 of your photos as low rez files on UBS thumb drive)

SESSION TWO: Field workshop meets near the Wingra Dr. zoo
gate. Your objective is to communicate your pre-defined ideas via
photos.

SESSION THREE: Group discussion of the connection between

the photographers intented message photographed at the zoo and
the viewer’s understanding of that message. Class “creative
feedback” will assist each photographer refine actual/intended
communication goals. Zoo assignment #2, independent during
week.

SESSION FOUR: Using “creative feedback” we’ll collectively

consider the similarity and difference between the visual messages
developed during assignments one and two.
SESSION FIVE: Assemble and present a multi image visual
statement as a slide show, wall exhibit, e-book, print layout, etc.
Juxtaposition of photos, headlines, text blocks and audio supports
encouraged.

Instructor: Bill Maund is educated in fine art, cultural anthropology

and adult education. His career includes photojournalism and
