My
goal
for
this
class
for
this
class
is
to
present
to
you
the
tremendous
and
diverse
properties,
styles,
and
working
techniques
of
glass.
Through
this
introductory
class,
I
hope
to
not
only
educate
you
on
the
sculptural
potential
of
the
medium,
but
to
inspire
creativity
both
in
thought
and
execution
of
your
artwork.
This
course
will
introduce
you
to
a
variety
of
glass
working
techniques
including
glass
blowing,
cold
working,
kiln
casting
and
sand
casting
Grading:
Attendance
is
mandatory!
You
are
expected
to
show
up
for
class
on
time,
and
to
each
of
your
individual
blow
slots
(your
absence
compromises
your
partners
progress).
If
you
are
tardy
three
times
it
will
count
as
one
absence.
You
are
only
allowed
three
absences.
For
each
absence
thereafter,
your
grade
will
drop
one
letter
grade.
(For
example,
you
have
a
B
overall,
then
miss
the
fourth
class,
you
now
have
a
B-;
miss
the
fifth
class,
your
grade
drops
to
a
C+).
Weekly
assignments-30%
Weekly
and/or
monthly
assignments
will
be
given
to
encourage
and
aid
your
technical
progress.
Grades
for
these
assignments
are
based
on
timely
completion
and
quality
of
the
work.
Effort-30%
This
portion
of
the
grade
is
based
on
your
effort
and
participation
during
class,
during
individual
blow
slots
and
on
your
projects.
Sketchbooks-15%
A
sketchbook
is
required
for
this
course.
The
contents
are
to
include
all
handouts
given
during
the
course
of
the
semester
(you
will
need
to
create
a
folder
that
will
accompany
your
sketchbook
for
these),
notes
on
demonstrations,
slides,
sketches
of
ideas,
questions,
and
reflection
assignments
that
will
be
assigned
throughout
the
semester.
The
sketchbooks
will
be
collected
at
the
end
of
the
semester
for
grading
and
then
returned
to
you.
The
grading
will
be
based
on
clarity,
thoroughness,
and
thoughtfulness.
