AWARD winning local amateur theatre group
Neston Players are right behind Welsh singer
Bonnie Tylers Eurovision Song Contest
entry in the 2013 competition. Bonnie will
be singing Believe In Me as the UKs bid for
Eurovision success in this years competition.
The group, whose next production Eurobeat
is an affectionate and humorous interpretation
of the legendary song competition, have
written to Bonnie to wish her the best of luck
and to let her know that the cast and crew will
be cheering her on as she take to the stage in
Malmo.
Paul Kirkbright, Chair Neston Players,
commented our production of Eurobeat is
being performed the week before Bonnie hits
the stage in Sweden, but we wanted her to
know that everyone involved wishes her well
in fact we are delaying our after show party for
a week so we can watch Bonnies performance
in the competition.
Eurobeat is a glorious comedy stage musical
which celebrates everything loveable and
cringe-worthy about the Eurovision Song
Contest. It is a truly interactive musical - the
audience get involved and vote for their
favourite entry so that a different winner could
be crowned every performance.
The musical is set in Sarajevo, the city which
has somehow won the right to host the
competition. The Bosnians are undoubtedly
giving it their best shot, its just that somehow
things dont always go according to plan. A
tongue-in-cheek celebration of all that we love
(and hate!) about the Eurovision Song
Contest, this musical has been described
as one of the most exuberant and joyous
musicals to have appeared on stage in
recent years.
On this years UK entry, Paul Kirkbright
said: The great thing about Eurovision
is that it always surprises you. People
predict every year the best song before
the competition starts and who should
win, but nine times out of ten they get it
wrong so why shouldnt this be the UKs
and Bonnies year?

The Parents Association
for St Winefrides primary
school worked with local
councillor Louise Gittens
to secure some funding
to boost their after school
Lego club.
This is a free club run by
the year two teacher Mrs
Bailey. The children love
attending the after school
club and it is an enjoyable
as well as educational
activity that gives a lot of
pleasure to the children.
Cllr Gittens gave the
money as part of her
members budget. The
Parents Association and
the children would like to thank Cllr Gittens for her support in this project.
Great St Wins Cake Bake!
There was a day to remember at St Winefrides Catholic Primary school as children
brought to school some fantastically tasty and wonderfully well presented cakes to
enter into the St Wins Bake Off!
The school was honoured to have a guest judge, Adam Townsley from Malmaison in
Liverpool as well as a well respected ex Governor from the school, Peter Walsh and
his wife Laurie to study
and taste the cakes.

deliberation (and eating A
LOT of cake) the winners
were chosen!
There were two
categories, the most
attractive looking cake
overall, which was won
by a Year 1 pupil and the
best tasting cake, which
was won by Leon Firth
(Year 4). Prizes were also
awarded to the best cake
in each year group.

Rafe winner Rubys new house!
ONE lucky Wirral resident will be having a lot fun on a miniature scale after winning a
rafe organised by local fundraisers with proceeds supporting a local cancer charity.
During March, the Neston and Parkgate Committee of North West Cancer Research
(NWCR) encouraged the community to try their luck to win a handmade dolls house.
Last month a little girl, Ruby, won the three-dimensional house, which measures
almost 1sq m and includes lifelike ttings, xtures and furniture, was donated by a local
resident.
Sheila Gill, Chair of the Committee said: Our prize draw rafe has enjoyed a lot of
support from the community, which is adding to our fundraising total. The beautiful,
handmade dolls house was very kindly donated to the committee to be rafed. I know
that little Ruby will provide a loving home for the scaled-down house.

Bishop Wilson School sends best wishes
THE children of class 2 in Bishop Wilson CE Primary School spent a morning
spreading joy. They created get well cards and cards of special wishes. The children
decided to use the brightest colours in their cards to make them jolly as possible.

INVESTIGATORS believe that a blaze on the marshes at Parkgate was started
deliberately. The ames spread across a considerable area of marshland last
month before eventually being brought under control by reghters. It is thought
that vandals started the re near The Anchorage in Parkgate on Sunday 8th April.

Neston, presenting the variety of voluntary organisations in the Neston area, at the
same time showing plans for improving the centre of Neston using Section 106 money
from Sainsburys supermarket, and asking for views on how the Town Hall and Market
Square should be used when Neston Town Council take them over.

AN orchard of ten apple trees has
been created at Stanney Fields
Park as part of the The Big Tree
Plant in the Mersey Forest.
The council worked with The
Cheshire Landscape Trust,
who donated the trees as part
of a project to create orchards
throughout the area.
Councillor Andy Williams said:
The trees are lovely natural features in the park, providing spring blossoms and fruit
which can be enjoyed and appreciated by all of the parks users.
The Cheshire Orchard Project is doing a fantastic job in reintroducing fruits that were
once native to Cheshire and Im delighted these two parks can benet.
The Cheshire Orchard Project has been instrumental in tracking down old varieties of
Cheshire apples of which there are now 33 known varieties.

Council help desk moves to library
THE councils customer service access point in Neston has relocated to the local
library ensuring that the majority of council services can be accessed by local
residents from one place.
Previously housed within Neston Town Hall, the relocation took place last month
and will see the access point located closely to the Peoples Network computers and
I Connect video kiosk already housed in the library.
Increased opening hours at the library will enable easier access for local residents
and will allow the council to offer an improved range of services. Plus Dane Housing
Ofcer Lynne Georgeson will also move to the library.
Local member, Councillor Brenda Dowding, said: The relocation of the towns
customer service point to Neston library is designed to offer a number of key
benets to our residents.
As well as the advantage in terms of access of the majority of council services now
being housed under one roof, the building itself is easily accessible, with a car park
and two disabled parking spaces, including one newly marked at the front of the
building.

6 Netball team are celebrating
after winning the Ellesmere Port
and Neston inter-school netball
competition.
The nals were held at Whitby
High School this week and the
Neston team won all of their
games on the way to the nal.
The children were delighted to
win the competition which was
open to all primary schools in the
area.
As the overall winners of the
Ellesmere Port and Neston
competition, the team will now
play in the regional nals to
be held in Warrington in the
Summer term.
The team were brilliant and
they played superbly. The nals were held after school on a bitterly cold evening. The
children got medals, the spectators got hypothermia!, said Headteacher Rob Golding.

Junior Leadership course
which covers nine weekends
and culminates in a seven-day
assessment week.
As part of the course they
completed a sponsored bike ride
from Holyhead back to Neston,
along the north coast of Wales,
totalling 120 miles in just two
days, ran a rafe at their school,
Neston High School, using the
assemblies to advertise what
they were doing, and did a
local bag-pack at Sainsburys
in Neston. In total they raised
1544.
