PRESENTATION OF THE PROGRAM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CONVENTION The Hispanic Leaders of United States Program was created

in 1998, with the encouragement of the Government of Spain, who entrusted its continuity to the Foundation Carolina. Since 2001 Carolina Foundation, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Washington DC, invites each year 15 outstanding Hispanic Americans in different areas of American society. The purpose is to create a network of senior professionals in all States. The program aims to provide participants with the opportunity to make an approach to Spain. It is part of an agenda of high level content and leads to a strengthening of the common links between the two countries and enhances the image of Spain in the United States. In this sense, the Spanish Crown has supported the program since its inception with the presence of HRH the Prince of Asturias in several editions and conventions. Carolina Foundation is aware of the importance of the Hispanic communities in the United States and its growing presence in the various decision-making centers. Thus, for years has maintained a close relationship with this group through this program, which so far has received 185 Hispanic leaders. As a result of this sustained work, the Hispanic Leaders Association was created in 2005. This is an American non-profit organization, constituted by high-level professionals in the public and private, selected to participate in the Hispanic Leaders Program of the Carolina Foundation. To the date, there have been four Hispanic Leaders Conventions. The first two took place in the years 2005 and 2006 in the United States. The following were celebrated in 2008 and 2010 in Spain. All of them were organized and sponsored by the Carolina Foundation. The V Convention of the Hispanic Leaders will be held between 1 and 3 of May, 2013 in conjunction with the activities planned by the Government of Spain on the occasion of the celebration of the V Centenary of the discovery of Florida by Juan Ponce de Len. The aim of the Convention is to bring together the most outstanding Hispanic leaders with the highest Spanish partners for addressing the challenges of today. Which are, among others, the role of innovation as a driver of economic growth, the strength of Hispanic creativity in the geo-economic changing context, the new demands of global leadership and the need for closer trade and cultural cooperation between the United States and Spain.

PROPOSED TOPICS Day One: Thursday, May 2 Panel I - XXI century America: Hispanics as agents of change Hispanics are expected to become one third out of U.S. population by 2050. This fact points towards a group with a decisive influence on the American public and private spheres. The panel will discuss in a prospective view future trends and changes in several social, economic and political dimensions, as a result of "Hispanic" initiatives and actions. Panel II - Economic and Business Leadership The U.S. Hispanic market is an emerging phenomenon, outcome both of an increased purchasing power and their members professional standing. The per capita income for Hispanics in the U.S. is higher than in Brazil, Russia, India and China, along with a distinctive aptitude for international relations. The panel will find out opportunities for Spanish and Hispanic entrepreneurs created by this new reality. Panel III - Leaders forging leaders: Education and Culture Education and culture are key elements in the history of U.S. economic growth. The emergence of a new Hispanic generation involves a reactivation of the power of this innovative and creative nation. In the session the analysts will discuss on the extent to which these factors become axes of the American symbolic power and about the advantages that shared Hispanic roots and values imply for Spain's projection. Day Two. Friday, May 3 Panel IV - Europe, the U.S. and Latin America: a New West. The changes undergone in international relations, due to globalization process and technological advances have led to deep transformation in international relations. The Worldspread free market model opens an extraordinary opportunity for extensive interaction between Spain, United States and Latin America. Panelist will address the possibilities and obstacles of this new extended West.
