TRADITIONAL SDLC AND PURCHASED IS SDLC

1. Explanation of Traditional SDLC and Purchased IS SDLC SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) divides the software development process into a number of clearly defined phases, each of which is further divided into steps. Progress through the steps is measured by the completion of forms and checklists. [1] The phases were viewed as sequential steps, with the output from one phase becoming the input to the next, a traditional SDLC was often called a waterfall.

Figure 1. Phases of The Traditional SDLC Generally, the phases of the traditional SDLC are similar with the phases of the purchased, because phases of the purchased are part of phases of the traditional SDLC. There are some of steps for purchasing application packages fit into the three SDLC phases, like definition, construction and implementation.

Definition phase consist of: 1. Feasibility analysis Determine whether the proposed system is economically, technically, and operationally feasible. 2. Requirements definition Focuses on defining function requirements needed to develop a request for proposal. 3. Short list of packages Eliminate all but a few promising candidate packages. 4. Establish evaluation criteria Eliminate all but a few promising candidate packages. 5. Develop and distribute RFP A formal document sent to potential vendors inviting them to submit a proposal describing their software package and how it meets the companys needs 6. Choose package For collect some data and project team evaluates how well available packages meet companys needs 7. Negotiate contract Includes detailed plan for the remainder of the life cycle steps and so on. Construction phase consist of: 1. System design for package modification 2. System building for package modification 3. System testing Implementation phase consist of: 1. Installation Involves installation planning, training, data cleanup, and conversion 2. Operations Involves installation planning, training, data cleanup, and conversion 3. Maintenance Common for vendor to handle package maintenance, if specified in the contract. Summaries
