The Conference
ISSS has been conducting a series of triennial International Conference on Smart Materials Structures and Systems. Apart from this, ISSS also organizes annual National level conference to give platform to present the research carried out in the area of smart materials, structures and systems. The progress in the key focus areas of ISSS, has been covered in innumerable forums all over the world, including the previous six international and five national conferences held at various parts of India. The evolution and maturing of these technologies are clearly seen over the years. The present conference, which is the sixth in the series continues this evolutionary thread and aims to provide a forum to academicians, researchers and technologists to not only assess the current status in these technologies but also to steer towards a more effective utilization of these technologies by exploiting the strengths, recognizing and filling the gaps, and building bridges across disciplines hitherto considered as disjointed. The topics covered in ISSS-NC 6 are: Adaptive/smart materials and nanotechnology Sensors and Actuators MEMS : Design, electronics and packaging Signal conditioning & processing techniques related to smart materials, structures and systems B Applications: Structural Health Monitoring, Automotive sensors, BioMEMS and RF-MEMS

Pune
Pune, the largest city in the Western Ghats is situated 560 m above mean sea level on the Deccan plateau at the confluence of the Mula and the Mutha rivers. It is the eighth largest metropolis of India, and the second largest in Maharashtra. Well recognized as the center of power of the Maratha Empire, Pune is said to have existed as a town, for centuries. Pune is known for its educational excellence. With its rich tradition and culture, Pune hosts several globally recognized premier institutions; University of Pune, COEP, DIAT, AFMC, NCL, NIV, C-DAC, C-MET, DRDO (R&DE(E), ARDE, HEMRL) to name a few. Having the head quarters of Southern Command of Indian Army, Pune is identified as a place of strategic importance as well. Pune is well connected by air, rail and road. The venue of ISSS NC-6 is just 15min drive away from the International Airport and 10km from Pune Central Railway Station/ Bus terminus . Pune experiences moderate raining in month of September with quite comfortable climate. This is the ideal season to see the post monsoon greenary of western ghats, with plenty of places to visit around Pune.

R&DE(Engrs), Pune is one of the key laboratories of DRDO/Ministry of Defence. Established in 1962, this premier organization has always been a vanguard in combat engineering systems and missile launchers. To cater for the requirements of light weight structural products of our armed forces, Composites Research Center of RDE(E) has developed several state-of-the art products over the last decennium. Bridging, Assault vehicle hulls and Naval vessel components are being developed in composites adopting economically viable manufacturing means. At par with the global scenario, our attempts in hybridizing engineering marvels with the latest trends in MEMS, SHM and Nanotechnology are on the verge of maturity.
