3. How can population growth and resources be brought into balance? Indonesia is the fourth biggest country in the world in term of people population. As a developing country, Indonesia has diverse challenges that need to be addressed towards providing a proper welfare for its people. In scope of 15 Global Challenges facing humanity, the challenge that obstructs Indonesias development the most is population and resources issues. The gist of population issues in Indonesia is essentially caused by unequal distribution of population across the country. Since the economic and governmental activities are concentrated in Jakarta as the capital city and Java as the island where it is located, the population is spread mostly in this certain area as well. Unfortunately the high population density cannot be coped by the nature because most of the land is now converted into residential

and business area, causing massive reduction of areas that are used for watersheds and agricultures. Furthermore, the infrastructure construction to satisfy the human needs has brought extensive exploration on natural resources. This leads to catastrophe such as landslide, land subsidence, annual water flood in Jakarta, and shortfall of food supply due to gradually declining production. The gap of population density is also causing the gap of economic growth that consequently provokes the threat of inclining crime rate, unequal welfare, health, and educational level across Indonesia. Especially in Jakarta as the capital city, high population density has caused severe pollution and daily traffic jam that harm peoples health and reduce productivity. As part of Indonesian youth that will further carry Indonesias future in my hands, Ive been devastated by these issues and concerned in the reliable solutions. Therefore if I am in the position as the key head figure in Indonesias government, it is an urgent action to fix the damages in Java as the densely populated area by imposing strict policy on city planning and urbanization while enhancing the development in outside Java regions. The development has to be carried in a manner that enticing for the people while complying with sustainable and environmental aspects. People tend to be dreaming to live in a convenient neighborhood with adequate facilities for health, education, and entertainment. For most people, the quest for these qualities is the reason that drives them to move from the countryside to the urban areas. So in order to reduce the unequal population density that caused by urbanization, Indonesia needs to build those qualities in the rural areas. The development can be executed as channeling the investors to local projects; establishing entertainment and tourism centers to attract people; standardize the health care and education quality by allocating qualified experts, as well as reinforcing the role of industry, local commodities trade, and agricultural activities to propel the local economic growth. By undertaking these steps, the rural areas will gradually becoming more developed and possess such features of a convenient neighborhood that shall attract people to reside. Thus, will eventually distribute the density of population across Indonesia and tackle the damages of an unequal population density.
