THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Lord Jesus Christ, my risen Savior, in the waters of Holy Baptism You gave me new life washing away my sins and giving me the gift of Your Holy Spirit so that by His power I might confess Your name and live as a redeemed child of God. By that same Holy Spirit, working through Your Word, grant that I daily drown the Old Adam in me through contrition and repentance and then rise to newness of life showing forth that I am Your disciple and thereby giving You thanksgiving and praise for the gift of my redemption. I pray this in your holy name. Amen

WELCOME
Alleluia, Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed, Alleluia! We continue to celebrate Easter on this Fifth Sunday of Easter and the newness of life we have through the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome to everyone gathered here this day to be strengthened in Your faith through the proclamation of the Gospel. Each Sunday throughout the year is a celebration of the resurrection of our Lord. We invite you to come and worship with us again. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them if they wish. We have a nursery facility for infants and toddlers located downstairs for anyone who has need. Restrooms are also downstairs in this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions please ask one of our greeters or ushers. If you need more information about Grace Lutheran Church please speak with our Pastor.

AS WE GATHER
We are coming closer to the end of the Easter season and drawing near to the celebration of Pentecost and the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit whose work in us and for us is sanctification. It is the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, which guides us in all truth and the truth that we hear from Gods Word today is that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End who gives to those who are thirsty the water of life. He does this freely, there is no cost to us for this life-giving water. He quenches our thirst for righteousness by giving us His own, taking from us our old sinful nature and giving us new life in His name.

NEXT WEEKS READINGS The appointed readings for next Sunday, May 5th, The Sixth Sunday of Easter, are: The First Reading: Acts 16:9-15, The Epistle Reading: Revelation 21:9-14, 21-27, and The Gospel Reading: John 16:23-33.

Holy Gospel
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the sixteenth chapter.

John 16:1222

The reading of the Holy Gospel. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen

Proper Preface
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. And most especially are we bound to praise You on this day for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us and bore the sins of the world. By His dying He has destroyed death, and by His rising again He has restored to us everlasting life. Therefore with Mary Magdalene, Peter and John, and with all the witnesses of the resurrection, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

The Words of Our Lord

Matthew 26:2628; Mark 14:2224 Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:2325

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.

Proclamation of Christ

1 Corinthians 11:26; Revelation 22:20

P As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lords death until He comes. C Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. P O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:

Lord's Prayer
C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Matthew 6:913

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9 (NIV 1984)

Dear Members of Grace Lutheran, We would like to thank you once again for all your support as we prepare to go to the National Youth Gathering this summer. Through your financial aid, your words of encouragement, and your prayers on our behalf you have been such a blessing to us. A highlight of our fundraising was the Pancake Lunch that was held this past Sunday which included the silent auction. At the lunch the Youth flipped pancakes and poured drinks as our guests ate, and it seemed as though everyone had a wonderful time. We announced the closing of the silent auction there as well and drew names from a box for a couple extra prizes. We joyfully report that through this single event over $1,700 was raised, and we will receive matching funds of $600 from Thrivent. This is an overwhelming display of your generosity, and it helps us greatly come closer to our goal. As the idea of going to San Antonio this July becomes more realistic our anticipation continues to grow, especially for the seven of us planning on making the trip. Thank you so much for helping us! In Christ, the Grace Youth
