Student-Friendly Standards I can recognize and follow classroom and school rules that guide behavior and resolve conflicts.

E. Vocabulary: job F. Procedure: 1. Have students look at pages 36 and 37 in their books. Teacher will ask: How do these pictures look the same as our classroom and playground? How are they different? 2. Teacher will write the vocabulary word job, and definition on the whiteboard and discuss it with the students. 3. Teacher will ask students to look around the classroom, and ask students to think about ways of caring for others. 4. Handout resource page5 Classify to students. Teacher will read pages 36 and 37 out loud to the class. Help students fill out the chart by classifying ways to show they care in school and jobs they do in school. 5. Teacher will ask students: What do students learn to do in class? Why do children need to treat others with respect? (Refer to questions 1-2 in the margin on page 37)

6. As a class, discuss the following questions 3-4: What is a job? What jobs are the helpers doing on page 37? 7. Have students turn to page 38-39. Ask the students: Why do people in our country say the Pledge of Allegiance? What are the students in the picture doing as they say the pledge? 8. Ask students why they think it is important to stand up when they say the pledge? 9. CLOSURE: Review: Ask students why do we have classroom helpers? Why do we say the Pledge of Allegiance? Students will give examples of ways to show we care in school, using graphic organizer 5. G. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use the graphic organizer to measure their understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must give 4 examples of ways that show they care in school. They must also be able to explain why they think it is important to stand while saying the Pledge of Allegiance. H. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the easiest part will be teaching what a job is. Students usually have classroom jobs so they should have an understanding of what a job is. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Maybe the part about the Pledge of Allegiance will be a little challenging because not all students understand why we say the pledge. So explaining this concept might be difficult. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I could extend this lesson by having students draw a picture of the class saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Also, by singing the we help song on page 40. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concept, we can make a helping hands tree as a class, and each student can write a word on their helping hand that shows an example of a job they can do in the classroom. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I dont think I would change any part of this lesson,

6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? What was difficult for me was finding a standard and getting used to the way this TE is laid out. I also had difficulty writing a student friendly statement for the standard.
