GARDEN REFUSE & STREET SWEEPING SERVICES

Periodic garden refuse and monthly street sweeping services are provided to City of Sacramento residents (see map). Street sweeping occurs once a month for residents that have curb and gutters. Street sweeping occurs on the day following your garden refuse collection (except Downtown or Oak Park).

Downtown and Oak Park Restricted Parking Zones Some areas in Downtown and Oak Park have restricted parking from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Street sweeping occurs once a month, on the same day as your garbage, bi-weekly recycling, and garden refuse services. Please place you garbage and recycling containers on the curb or in the area between the curb and sidewalk. Containers placed in the street (gutter) prevent the street sweeper from providing service.

The Following Are Accepted: Garden trimmings including: shrubs, weeds. leaves, grass clippings, and sod (with the dirt removed). Christmas trees (Stands must be removed. Trees will be picked up whole.) Tree prunings: Material must be cut to not exceed 36 inches and no single piece can weigh more than 40 pounds or be greater than 4 inches in diameter. The Following Items Will Not Be Picked Up: Piles greater than two cubic yards (3x3x6) Piles contaminated with household trash Dirt, concrete, lumber, and fencing Animal Droppings Garden refuse that did not originate from the residents property. (This is illegal dumping.)

CITY OF SACRAMENTO RECYCLING GUIDE

Helpful Suggestions for Good Service On street sweeping days, keep the streets clear of cars, trash and recycling containers, garden refuse materials, and basketball hoops. Keep gutters and drains free of garden refuse. This is especially important during wet weather, when leaves can clog drains and cause street flooding. Please do not place more than two cubic yards of material on the street for collection each week. (3x3x6) Please make sure your trees are pruned. Overhanging trees can be an obstruction and prevent the crews from providing service.

Leaf Season (October through December) Call 808-4827 for the latest collection schedule update During leaf season, garden refuse collection may run late due to the increase in tonnage that occurs each leaf season. Crews will be working overtime to catch up, but due to the volume of leaves that drop during this time of the year, the periodic collection of garden refuse is impacted.

At the end of the seminar, residents can purchase a Biostack composting bin for $20. These compost bins normally retail for approximately $100 in home improvement stores. Each seminar lasts approximately 20 minutes and five to six seminars will be conducted during the event. Residents can also request the Backyard Composting Correspondence Course. The course includes the Citys Backyard Composting Guide and a short quiz. Successful participants are eligible to purchase a Biostack composting bin.
