Intro to North American Geography

Revision Date of Lesson Plan (if applicable): April 16, 2013 Overall Goal for the Lesson: To introduce the students to the new material and to engage their prior knowledge. Description of classroom, grade level, and students: The class will consist of 25-30 6th graders who are at grade level. Typical classroom with smart board, desks, and maps. Student Objectives for the lesson. (Given a condition, the students will, to what level). Given the information from the iMovie the student will be able to gain basic knowledge of the Western Hemisphere and be able to achieve a 80% on a post movie quiz. Length of Lesson: (minutes, number of class periods, or days or weeks needed). I 45 minute class period (this includes introducing the unit, the movie, a post quiz, and the completion of a reference map) Schedule of Activities: (Break down your activity into a timeline of events. Focus on what students will be doing and what teachers will be doing during each part of the activity.) Intro to new unit- 5 minutes imovie- Approximately 10 minutes post movie quiz- 20 minutes Map- Remainder of class time approximately 10 minutes *Teacher will be walking around the room answering questions during quiz and map activity.

Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETSS. a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity Assessments: How will these activities be assessed? (Go back to your objectives, what will the students do? Make sure that each objective is paired to an assessment measure that allows students to show it). The students will turn in the quiz after it is completed and the teacher will grade it. The map will be a completion grade, that the student will keep for their own reference during the unit.

Accommodations: How might the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs? The students with special needs could write a shorter paragraph on the quiz or they could do the quiz orally instead of written. App to be used for lesson (if applicable): Teacher will use iMovie. Students will not use an app.
