Secureapparatusandspecimensproperlytopreventthemfromfallingdown,especiallyduringload tests. Stackandsecuretestedspecimensproperlyintheallocatedareabeforedisposal. Safetyshoesmustbewornwhenlabusersareoutofthedesignatedwalkwaymarkedyellow. 3. Stay Alert Takenoteofanysignoftestinprogress. Donotliftlargeorheavyobjectinthelaboratorybyyourself,getstaffforhelp. Donotcarryouttestswhentired. Reportanyaccidenttolaboratorystaffimmediately.ThereisafirstaidboxintheLab. 4. Use of Materials and Equipment Donotuseanymaterialorequipmentwithoutpermissionfromstaff. Usepropertoolsfortherightjob/equipment. DonotoperateOverheadCrane,Forklift,Scissorslift,Stacker,etc. 5. Load Test Obtainconfirmationfromsupervisorforthesetupbeforecommencingloadtest. Donotcarryoutloadtestswithoutpropersupervision.

Thetestareamustbecordoned,andthebarricadeleftinpositionuntil thetestedspecimenhasbeenproperlydisposed. Allstaffandresearchpersonnelenteringthecordonedareamustwear safetyshoesandhelmets. Testedspecimensthatarecollectedtogetherandreadyfordisposal mustbesafelystackedandsecured. a. Includeinformationonsafetyaspartofthebriefingtofinalyear students. b. Studentsmustnotbeallowedtohandleheavyequipmentwithout notifyingtechnicalstaff.Everyprecautionmustbeobservedduringthe preparationandtestingofspecimens. c. Usersofcastingareaandcuringtanksmustensuretheareaisclearedof stagnantwater. a. Grinding,compressiontestingandcoringofspecimensmaybe undertakenbystudentsbutunderthesupervisionofatechnicalstaff. Studentsshouldbebriefedontheproperandsafehandlingof equipmentandoperation,andbeinformedoftheappropriateworking attire. a.
