Lesson Plan One Daily topic: Acadian Odyssey Objectives: Students will examine how the Acadians arrived

in Louisiana, and how they have spread their culture throughout South Louisiana. Estimated Time: 3 90 Minute class periods GLEs: 1. Construct a map based on given narrative information (G-1A-M2) 2. Explain why humans settled and formed societies in specific regions or why immigrant groups (e.g., Acadians) settled in specific areas of Louisiana (G-1C-M3) 3. Compare and contrast events and ideas from Louisianas past and present, explaining political, social, or economic contexts (H-1A-M2) 4. Analyze the causes, effects, or impact of a given historical event in Louisiana (H-1A-M3) 5. Describe the causes and effects of various migrations into Louisiana (H-1D-M1) 6. Explain cultural elements that have shaped Louisianas heritage (e.g., festivals, music, dance, food, languages) (H-1D-M6) Procedures: Bell Ringer: Students will be asked to describe the culture of South Louisiana. Then they will be asked to hypothesize how the culture of today was shaped by past cultural groups. Introduction: The teacher will introduce the students to the cultural group of the Acadians. Guided Instruction: The students will be given a web quest to complete over the Acadian Exile. The students will be given a computer and they will open a PowerPoint presentation that gives guided instructions on how to research the Acadians. They will go through the suggested links and complete a series of thinking maps over the Acadian Exile and the Acadians effect on Louisiana culture. Once they have completed their thinking maps they will make a map on a quarter piece of poster board showing the route the Acadians took to get from Nova Scotia to South Louisiana The students will now go to prezi.com and make a prezi over their research with at least 20 slides over the Acadian Exile and the cultural effects on Louisiana from the Acadians.

Evaluations: Rubric for Prezi Presentation Originality 4 Points Presentation shows considerable originality and inventiveness. The content and ideas are presented in a unique and interesting way. All content throughout the presentation is accurate. There are no factual errors. Font formats (e.g., color, bold, italic) have been carefully planned to enhance readability and content. Presentation has no misspellings or grammatical errors. Information is organized in a clear, logical way. It is easy to anticipate the type of material that might be on the next slide. All graphics are 3 Points Presentation shows some originality and inventiveness. The content and ideas are presented in an interesting way. 2 Points Presentation shows an attempt at originality and inventiveness on 1-2 cards. 1 Point Presentation is a rehash of other people\'s ideas and/or graphics and shows very little attempt at original thought.
