INTERVIEW TO ESTABLISH LEVEL OF QUALIFICATION/ (FOREIGN QUALIFICATION) I refer to your application for foreign qualification assessment. Council has considered your application but is unable to complete the evaluation of your qualification. In order for your application to proceed it is essential for you to be interviewed. The interview panel will determine whether the academic level and outcomes of your qualification(s) (and other learning) are substantially equivalent to that described in the Qualification Standard for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering registered on the NQF as No. 48694, as embodied in ECSA accredited or ECSA recognized engineering degrees, required for registration in the category Professional Engineer or Candidate Engineer. Qualifications accredited by signatories of the Washington Accord are recognized by ECSA. An evaluation of a qualification by any other organization is not recognized by ECSA for registration purposes. Your interviewers are expected to explore the educational programme to which you were exposed during your studies. They will ask questions to establish how and to what extent the programme you followed developed you, according to the above Standard, to: Identify, assess, formulate and solve convergent and divergent engineering problems Apply knowledge of Mathematics, Basic Science and Engineering Science from first principles to solve engineering problems in the specific discipline Perform creative, procedural and non-procedural design and synthesis of components, systems, engineering works, products or processes Design and conduct investigations and experiments Use appropriate engineering methods, skills and tools, including those based on information technology Communicate effectively, both orally and written, with engineering audiences and the community at large Be critically aware of the impact of engineering activity on the social, industrial and physical environment Be competent to work effectively as an individual, in a team and in multidisciplinary environments Be competent to engage in independent learning Demonstrate a critical awareness of the need to act professionally and ethically and exercise judgement and take responsibility within own limits of competence.

In preparation for the interview it will be necessary for you to review your courses as the Panel will ask you questions to establish the depth of the content of your engineering programme. It will be expected of you to, for instance, demonstrate your understanding of engineering concepts, principles and theory, problem solving, design and synthesis, experimental investigations, communication and awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the engineer in the society. The Panel will also pose questions to you regarding e.g. the assessment systems, the teaching and learning process, the teaching staff, and resources that were available at the institution where your degree programme was offered.

To assist the Panel please bear the following in mind: (a) Before the interview: Study ECSA document E-02-PE Rev 2 (available on the ECSA website www.ecsa.co.za under Education/EPAC) and reflect on how, and where the programme you followed, developed you towards the exit level outcomes and how did you demonstrate that you were competent at the exit level. Study the syllabus of a typical accredited South African engineering degree in your discipline. (Please take note that equivalency of programmes is not measured by how many courses and course topics coincides with the syllabi of the courses in the programme you followed.) Refer to the ECSA website where the accredited university programmes are listed. Provide ECSA with as many details as possible of your syllabi, courses (subjects) grouped in years of study, including reference/text books Provide ECSA with a table that specifies the time (in hours) you spent for each course on attending lectures, attending tutorial classes, doing laboratories, doing projects, writing tests and exams, experiential training and/or industrial exposure Provide ECSA with certified copies of your qualification(s) Provide ECSA with a certified detailed academic record. For/during the interview: Bring your final year investigation and design project report(s) to the interview (they will be handed back to you after the interview) Provide ECSA with information on the examination system Provide ECSA with information on the teaching staff (number, qualifications such as PhDs, research fields, etc.) Provide ECSA with information regarding the laboratories and library facilities at the institution where you studied.

(b)

You will be contacted either telephonically or via email, and advised of a proposed date for the interview. Kindly advise ECSA in writing if you will not be available on the proposed date. Based on this information provided by you, ECSA will contact the interviewers to arrange your interview for a mutually suitable date and time. The interview will be held at ECSAs offices in Johannesburg. The interview itself will last for about an hour to ninety minutes, but please allow additional time for unforeseen circumstances. If you are uncertain about any aspect of this letter, kindly contact the writer for a discussion to clarify Councils requirements.

Yours sincerely
