A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This social studies lesson is designed for 2nd grade students to learn about ways to share classroom resources. This lesson uses a worksheet to introduce the concept of sharing limited materials. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 2nd grade Skill Level: students at all learning levels Grouping: small group work, whole group discussion C. Materials: Worksheet Pencils Scissors Markers/crayons Rulers D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o E11.2.2 Describe ways to share classroom resources.

E. Procedure: 1. Explain that there is a problem and that help is needed from the class to solve it. o Handout a worksheet of procedures that need to be completed. Each problem on the paper involves the use of a classroom material. There are not enough materials for everyone to use at the same time. Each group of about 4-5 students has their own set of materials (scissors, glue, markers, pencils, rulers). The small groups should work together to complete their papers.

2. Have students brainstorm in their small groups ways that they can complete the paper without all students using the materials at once. 3. Give students time to complete their worksheets and practice sharing. 4. Once groups have completed the worksheet, students should explain to the class the way their group shared the materials. Explain why sharing is important. 5. CLOSURE: Have students list examples of sharing that can be done in the classroom.

F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure their understanding by walking around each group while completing their assignment. I will be listening for participation in group discussion and if they are sharing. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students should be able to describe ways to share classroom resources. If students can complete their worksheets while sharing limited classroom materials, I will know they can describe ways to share classroom resources. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? Talking about sharing is simple to teach. Everyone knows sharing is a kind thing to do and sometimes it is necessary when there are limited ideas. I think every student will get the concept of sharing. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I dont really think anything in this lesson will be challenging. I think its a pretty straight forward concept, I think the students will learn it easily. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I could have the students create a journal entry. They can write about a time where they had to share something and it made the situation better. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concept, we can work together on discussing the importance of sharing and times when sharing is needed. I will basically just discuss the concepts again with the students who dont understand. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I wouldnt change anything about the lesson; I think it gets the sharing concept across to the students. I think they will enjoy solving a problem with sharing. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part of the lesson plan was trying to stick to a second grade level. I dont know why it was so hard for me to figure out if a second grader would understand that the way to solve the shortage of materials was to share them.

You can use this worksheet or one that you make on your own. Just have the materials that you want to use beforehand. Make sure there are limited materials so for example, not everyone can use the red marker to write their name first.
