Festival of Beer promises Media members barrels of fun and froth treated to a taste of Kohler with three new events
Tickets are now available for a host of beer-themed educational seminars, tastings, demonstrations and happenings at the Kohler Festival of Beer, May 31-June 2 at The American Club resort. This year features signature event favorites and new brew-themed events including a 5K Beer Trail Run Grilling University and a Pub Crawl. Prost! New Events On Tap Beer enthusiasts have a unique opportunity to attend the new Grilling University, an interactive cooking demonstration alongside skilled Kohler chefs. Grilling University will be set up in Baker Plaza and offers attendees the opportunity to "grill your own" with the Chefs, creating sizzling summer masterpieces and learning how best to maximize grilled flavors by accompanying them with the perfect brews. For those who are keen on fitness and fun, Saturday kicks off with the inaugural Kohler Festival of Beer 5K Beer Run a trail run through the scenic areas of River Wildlife. At each mile mark, participants will be rewarded with a refreshing beer stop. Runners should pre-register online for $30. A Friday evening event added to this years line-up is the Pub Crawl. This brew tour starts at The American Club outdoor garden courtyard with a tap of the festivals inaugural keg and continues on an excursion to Cucina, Blackwolf Run and concludes at The Horse & Plow. Each stop features a regional brewers selected taps paired with a chef-selected plate of signature foods to complement the brew selections. Featured brewers include 3 Sheeps Brewery, Milwaukee Brewing Co. and a selection of international beers from Paramount Merchants. Signature Soirees Educational opportunities are abound with informative sessions hosted at a variety of resort locales including Friday evenings Central Waters Beer Dinner at the Immigrant Room the resorts Forbes Four-Star Restaurant Beer Seminars at The Horse & Plow, Beer & On April 13, a group of culinary writers, travel writers, freelancers, and other media members were treated to a day of memorable meals, sweet morsels, and a Kohlernary tour of the Kitchens of Kohler. The day began with lunch in The Wisconsin Room alongside farmers from the region who provide Kohler with the freshest of fresh foods, including representatives from Fox Valley Berkshire Pork, LaClare Farms Cheese, and Trusted Earth Farm and Forage. Executive Chef Rick Boyer and Wisconsin Room Chef Alex Glass also spoke about offerings at The American Club Resort. Media members were then shuttled to the Craverie for chocolates and wine and a chance to pose questions to Kohler Original Recipe Chocolate chocolatier Anette Righi and Mixologist Jason Van Auken. Food Pairing Seminars at The Demonstration Kitchen, and a delicious Beer & Chocolate Pairing Session at Craverie Chocolatier Caf featuring Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates. Time-honored events not to be missed include Shorts and Chefs, where top local and regional chefs create mouth-watering grilled dishes and pair them with delicious beers, Cheers to Beers at the renowned Kohler Design Center, and Home Brew Competition judged by American Homebrew Association certified judges at the Main Pavilion. Start each morning with the Eggs & Kegs Breakfast Buffet at Cucina featuring traditional morning favorites and delicious sampling of brews. Golfers can compete at the annual Blackwolf Run Beer Challenge Tournament by Leinenkugels featuring specialty beer samples, prizes and a Million-Dollar-Shootout. Throughout the weekend, guests can raise their steins at the outdoor Beer Garden, located at the Baker Plaza at the Shops at Woodlake Kohler and at the recently renovated Horse & Plow Pub & Restaurant located within The American Club. The historic tap room reopened in early April with aesthetic changes, expanded beer offerings,

new dcor with historic charm and an innovative menu featuring pub fare with flare. The lengthened bar now hosts 19 American and imported brews and one root beer on draft. She spoke of Herbert Kohlers passion for chocolate, and possible expansion of the business, including a separate building for making the chocolates if the need arises.(This prompted one of the culinary writers to ask if Kohler plans to have its own version of Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory!) Righi said the ultimate goal would be for Kohler to own its own cocoa bean plantation, but that would probably be 20 years down the road. The group then returned to The American Club for a behind the scenes tour of the kitchens and laundry room, led by Director of Hotels Christine Loose. The highlight was the chance to observe The American Clubs chefs, Kris Burns and John Vollmar, preparing sweets, and to take a look at the huge machine that cleans all the resorts towels and linens. After a break, the group returned for a Horse & Plow grand opening celebration, where Chef Loren Rue and Anello Mollica of Central Waters Brewing Company took questions and served up drinks and appetizers. The evening was capped off with an intimate sweets and cheese reception at the Winery Bar.

West Bend Mutual Insurance joins Road America as official insurance provider for Teen Driving School
ELKHART LAKE In response to the increasing numbers of driving accidents and fatalities impacting teenagers, Road America has announced a multi-year partnership with West Bend Mutual Insurance Company as its official insurance provider for the Road America Teen Driving School. Road Americas Teen Driving School provides teens with the skills they really need to know, including awareness of surroundings and active driving skills to develop driver confidence, as well as the proper foundation to being a safer driver which could someday save their lives, or the lives of others. This is a way we can give back to our community and policyholders by helping them protect the newest drivers in their household, says Scott Stueber, marketing service specialist for West Bend. Ultimately, its about saving lives. Road America has an excellent program and were glad to be a partner. We are equally proud to offer tuition reimbursement to current customers, as well as to the general public. Road Americas Teen Driving School provides inexperienced teenage drivers with the necessary skills to succeed at accident avoidance by practicing emergency driving situations in a safe and controlled environment. In the classroom, teens will learn the physics and dynamics of good driving, including collision avoidance and skid control. Teens will apply their classroom knowledge through hands-on driving activities including wet braking, emergency lane change, slalom, and skid car drills which simulate driving in weather conditions such as ice, snow, and rain in a safe, off-street environment. Village spring election results

The Village of Kohler saw a 36% turnout for the April 2 spring election with 573 voters casting their votes at the polls. Tom Schnettler received 473 votes for Village President. Four candidates ran for three open positions on the Village Board of Trustees. The results were:Brian Post (367), William Kunst (346), Charles Keller (326), Dietmar D. Wohlgemuth, Jr. (306). On Saturday, April 20, the Performing Arts Organization held their sixteenth annual dinner auction at Pine Hills Country Club. It was an evening of fun and excitement. Confirmation Service with the Sacrament of Holy Communion On May 19th The congregation of Grace UCC looks forward to celebrating the confirmation of faith from nine young people at the 10:00 service of worship and Sacrament. Nine young people from Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, and Kohler will publicly proclaim their faith and venture forward into the service of Jesus Christ. After they have made a confession of their faith they will receive their first communion, bringing them fully into the fellowship of faith. The public is invited to celebrate with these young people and fully participate in the Sacrament of Communion, bringing all into the family of God. Choral Enhanced worship, June 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. The people of Grace UCC, 500 School Street, invite the public to join them for their final 10 a.m. Sunday service of the school year. The Senior Choir, under the direction of Audrey Braatz, will sing five numbers for the service. They will reprise numbers that they have sung throughout the school year. New Squad: You may have seen our new squad over the last several weeks. It stands out because it is an SUV. Over the last decade, we have purchased only Ford Crown Victorias every year except one (Charger in 2008). The Crown Victoria was the largest police sedan made, which was needed due to the amount of equipment for patrol and as First Responders. Production of the Crown Victoria was discontinued,

leaving smaller sedans or SUVs as the only options. The Ford Explorer we purchased is All-wheel drive, and was not much more than the smaller sedan. This vehicle wont require snow tires, etc. and should have a higher resale value than the sedans also. You will probably see more and more of these on patrol with other agencies, who are in the same predicament.

Sheboygan County Clean Sweep: Bring your household hazardous waste to the Sheboygan County designated locations on May 10 & 11, 2013. There is a $10 charge per vehicle. Storable Swimming Pools: Storable swimming pools, located within the Kohler Village limits, require an annual $50 permit. A storable pool is any pool, which holds 1000 gallons of water or more. Storable pools must be located 35 feet from all lot lines and meet ALL electrical codes for the pump. Stormwater Pollution Prevention: To meet the Villages stormwater permit education requirements and to be environmentally friendly, residents need to be aware that storm drains located throughout the village discharge directly to the Sheboygan River. Please do not dump liquids or pet waste into the storm inlets. When you wash your vehicle, wash it on the grass to avoid dirt and detergent from flowing down your driveway and into the storm inlets.

We are now accepting applications for the Summer Kohler Kare at the Kohler School starting June 13 thru August 27th. Children starting JK in the 2013 school year thru 5th grade may attend and do not have to attend Kohler School. May 24 is snow make-up day

May 24 will be the day Kohler Schools students make up a day of school that was missed due to a February 27 snowstorm.

The TTW science enrichment program allowed students to participate in a community service project which encouraged them to employ both biology and chemistry skills. Students actively shared in data collecting, analyzing, and interpreting biology and chemistry data related to the water quality of the Sheboygan River. Kohler students tested a site along the river near Black Wolf Run Golf Course. Students from the county experienced the scope of the Sheboygan River Watershed via a bus tour at the beginning of the school year. This year we worked with the Great Lakes Area of Concern Program, along with Camp Y-Coda, the DNR, and UWSheboygan water quality extension. Water quality specialists explained the many facets of the watershed with stops at many locations along the tour, and explained the dredging of the PCBs. The area schools then gathered to be trained on how to accurately conduct each of the tests. Some of the tests included dissolved oxygen, BOD, pH, temperature, total phosphates, nitrates, turbidity, total solids, fecal coliform, and macroinvertebrates. The data collection portion of the program provided students an opportunity to conduct water quality tests and accurately report data. The Kohler group also presented a program for the 8th graders, participated in a canoe trip, and went on a snow shoe hike along the river. On Earth Day, April 22, 2013, students attended a watershed county Symposium. Students from ten schools throughout the county researched and discussed the human impacts, both positive and negative, and analyzed the river data from upstream to downstream. Along with sharing and presenting the data, students suggested explanations for their findings, and worked together to explore possible action plans that might have a positive impact on the areas land conservation and the environment. The school district must locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, including children with disabilities attending private schools in the school district, regardless of the severity of their disabilities. The school district has a special education screening program to evaluate all children with suspected disabilities and are at least three years old. Upon request, the school district will screen a child who has not graduated high school to determine whether a special education referral is appropriate. A request may be made by contacting the Special Education Director at 459-2920.

Prom 2013
Prom 2013 is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th at the Waelderhaus from 8:0012:00.Music will be from 8:00 until midnight with the presentation of prom court at 9:30. The professional photographer will be taking pictures from 8:00 until 9:00.All students should plan on arriving by no later then 8:30 p.m. Each student who purchases a ticket for prom will receive two complimentary tickets to be used by their parents or other members of their family to view the crowning ceremony. Due to the necessary restrictions on numbers in the Waelderhaus balcony, we must ask that parents honor this two ticket limit so that we dont jeopardize our ability to use this beautiful prom facility. Parents may begin to enter and proceed to the balcony 15 minutes before crowning ceremony (9:15). House lights will be brought up for an intermission following the presentation of the court and parents will be invited down to the main floor to take pictures. When the house lights are dimmed, approximately 10 minutes after court presentation, all parents will be asked to exit by 9:45. Once students arrive at Prom, they will not be allowed to leave and return. If the dance area becomes warm, students may walk outside but must remain in the supervised flagstone area immediately fronting the entrance. Students who are not attending Prom, serving for Prom, and do not have a family ticket will not be allowed in at Prom. No freshman is allowed as this is a senior, junior, sophomore Prom only.

Kohler Spring Band Concert

On Monday, May 6 the Kohler Band Department will present its final concert of the school year. The concert, featuring the Sixth Grade Band, Concert and Symphony Band, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Kohler Memorial Theater. Some of the selections to be performed include American Spirit March, Rise and Shine March, Echo Blues, Serengeti, American Riversongs, Military Escort, and The Great Locomotive Chase. You dont want to miss this final concert of the school year. The Kohler Bands are under the direction of Richard Tengowski. The concert is free and open to the public. Summer Music Scholarships The Performing Arts Organization is sponsoring partial summer music camp scholarships to middle school music students. We are requesting that students fill out the Kohler Performing Arts Organization Scholarship Application form found on the music department website. Information regarding the various summer music camps is included on the website. Forms must be turned into Mrs. Hucke or Mr. Tengowski by May 3. Funds earned at the PAO Auction on April 20 will be divided amongst those who have applied for a scholarship. All scholarships will be sent directly to the summer camp. Kohler 6th grade girls participate in state invitational championship

The Kohler 6th grade girls basketball team participated in the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament in Merrill, Wausau and Marathon on March 23 and 24, 2013. This tournament, which was organized by The Great Northwest Basketball League, brought together 83 of the top community-based 6th grade girls basketball teams from all across the State of Wisconsin. State champions were crowned in four divisions: Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4/5, based on the enrollment of the high school into which each team feeds. The Kohler 6th grade girls team played in Division 4/5, finishing in 13th place. The results of Kohlers six games were as follows: Pool Play Laconia 43, Kohler 21 Kohler 36, Melrose-Mindoro 20 Round of 16: Mineral Point 29, Kohler 22 9th 16th Place Quarterfinals: Alma Center 33, Kohler 32 13th 16th Place Semi-Finals: Kohler 48, Blair-Taylor 16 13th Place Game: Kohler 32, Colfax 21 Mineral Point defeated Laconia to win the Division 4/5 Championship. The Kohler team is coached by John Renzelmann, Steve Zielke and Bridgitt Zielke. The All-Tournament team for Division 4/5 consisted of: Mara Aschliman (Mineral Point), Alissa Dins (Laconia), Ashley Groshek (Amherst), Kiah Kalander (Prentice), Brittney Limoseth (Waterloo), Kathleen Mathias (Darlington), Elizabeth Misky (Cuba City), Kiarra Otto (Laconia), Morgan Radtke (Elk Mound), McKenna Reichling (Mineral Point), Gracie Rieder (St. Mary's Springs Academy) and Taylor VandeBerg (Laconia). In the other three divisions, Mukwonago defeated Appleton North to win the Division 1 Championship, Beaver Dam defeated Luxemburg-Casco to win the Division 2 Championship and GaleEttrick-Trempealeau defeated Valders to win the Division 3 Championship.

The Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament is an annual event, held in February, March or April of each year, pitting the top community-based

teams in the State of Wisconsin against each other. The tournament is organized by size of communities, much like the WIAA state high school tournaments, so

that top teams can compete on a level playing field with other programs their size.

Kohler Co. announced today the completed renovation of The Carriage House at The American Club resort in Kohler, Wisconsin. The 55-room annex boasts a prime location above the Forbes Five-Star Kohler Waters Spa and offers guests the ultimate KOHLER experience, from FiveStar hospitality to top-of-the-line bathing experiences. The Carriage House renovation is part of a multi-year renovation to the guest rooms at The American Club, one of 45 hotels in the world to be honored with the Forbes Five-Star and AAA FiveDiamond designations. The Carriage House offers a unique guest experience in a variety of ways, most notably with access to the common areas of the Kohler Waters Spa a tranquil spa known for its innovative hydrotherapy treatments and toplevel service. Guests who stay at The Carriage House also enjoy complimentary continental breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cordials, all while never having to leave the comfort of the building. Many guests enjoy the entire facility in their robes, changing only to venture for dinner at one of the 11 restaurants throughout the resort. Each room in The Carriage House also features a KOHLER bathtub for complete relaxation. As of this writing, the Carriage House will have a brand new entrance off Highland Drive by May 24 (weather permitting),

providing guests with a special greeted arrival from the front desk staff. The renovated historic building continues to serve as a brilliant showcase of the companys plumbing and interiors products and as a resort destination for the discerning traveler who seeks the finest in hotel surroundings, amenities and service. Furthermore, 12 rooms of the rooms include Mark David trunks near the bedside as a nod to the interior of a historic carriage. The guest room renovation incorporates plumbing, furniture and tile products from Kohler Co.s diverse product portfolio. The products are incorporated from the

following brands: KOHLER, Kallista, Baker, Mark David, McGuire, Ann Sacks and Robern. Just as in The American Club, The Carriage House rooms include a porcelain Karner Butterfly, made at the Kohler factory across the street. This butterfly is a unique way for the guest to communicate to the housekeeping staff if they desire fresh linens, said Loose. We choose the Karner Blue Butterfly because of its special story in Wisconsin. This particular species was endangered but is now flourishing in the State of Wisconsin. This is our way of helping tell that success story through our conservation efforts.
