The department is looking for MTech (2 and 3 yrs), PhD and MTechPhD Dual Degree students in the areas of Wireless Communication, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Power and Control.

Eligibility Criteria Candidates having B.Tech or B.Tech & MTech degrees in Electrical Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering are eligible to apply for the PhD program in the department

Selection: The department reserves the right to set any cut off criteria for shortlisting the candidates. The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The department has the right not to select any if appropriate candidates are not found.

About the Department of Electrical Engineering


The department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Hyderabad offers programs in B.Tech, M. Tech and PhD. The department consists of 15 faculty members 170 B.Tech, 59 M.Tech, and 38 PhD students. The department comprises of a diverse group of faculty members with varied research interests and has produced more than 50 research publications in internationally reputed journals and conference. The department has sponsored research worth than 20 Crore. Most of the faculty research areas are a healthy mix of traditional Electrical Engineering and interdisciplinary research.

Structure of PhD Program


1. Coursework: Minimum of 4 courses with good academic performance 2. Proposal Defense: At the end of first year, candidate should submit a thesis proposal and defend it in front of the Doctoral Committee. 3. Thesis: High quality research resulting in publications in reputed international journals such as IEEE Transactions.

Information About Research in the Department


1. Microelectronics: Analog and Digital IC Design, fabrication and modeling of semiconductor devices, electrical and thermal Modelling, 3-D IC and MEMS, electronics cooling, microfluidics (Pulsatile flow, Fluidic logic and blood flow) and Energy Harvesting. 2. Power & Control: Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Systems and Robotics. 3. Communications & Signal Processing: Wireless Communications, Cognitive Radio, Sensor Networks, Cyber Physical Systems, Signal Processing, Networking, Multimedia and Speech Processing.

M. Tech (2 yr) Selection Process


The selection is based on GATE Score only.

PhD and M. Tech (3 yr) Selection Process


The selection is a two-stage process for each of the above mentioned groups. Candidates called for selection (based on GATE/MTech CGPA) should choose one of the three groups for consideration. The first stage is a written test (for syllabus, see below). Candidates selected in the written test will have to appear for an interview in the second stage of the selection process. Final selection will be made based on both the written test and the interview.
