A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson introduces consumers and producers to students. Students learn the definition of each term and how they interact with one another. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 2nd. Skill Level: on level Grouping: Whole group for entire lesson. C. Materials: 1 copy of the book Whos Buying? Whos Selling? Understanding Consumers and Producers. By Jennifer Larson. Consumer and Producer worksheet D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o E9. 2.2 Identify consumers and where they make purchases. E9.2.3 Identify producers in your neighborhood and community.

Student-Friendly Standards I can explain what a consumer is and where they buy items. I can explain what a producer is and give an example of an item they make for the community.

E. Procedure: 1. Teacher will review what students researched the previous day. 2. Short discussion on income and why people work. 3. Teacher explains that people use this income to buy items. Ask students to name items that can be purchased. 4. Explain that items can be anything from groceries, electronics, paper, books etc People that buy these items are called consumers. 5. Break down word with students and ask them to identify the root word. 6. Ask students if theyve ever purchased a piece of candy or a toy? If they have, they are a consumer. 7. Read the consumer section of the book to students. Ask students to think while the teacher is reading.

8. Tell students that consumers are buying goods from people, but who are they buying the goods from? Explain that a producer is one that produces goods. Show student the root word. 9. Continue reading the book to the students. 10. Ask students to fill in the chart on their worksheet as the class and teacher discuss the interactions between consumer and producer. 11. CLOSURE: Ask students to think about some examples of interactions that might occur between a consumer and producer and share with a shoulder partner. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? This is a two day lesson and I have no formal oral or written assessment for day 1. I will observe students throughout the lesson and will check to see if the worksheets are completed following the information discussed in class. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will measure student understanding further on day 2. I will check the worksheets to ensure the information is correct since it will be used on day 2.
